I'm happy that switch is doing well, and even happier that so many people are having fun with it
But I'm still not sold on getting one because I'm still saving for a PS4 first.
I suppose if they announced a new Animal crossing, pokemon, or fire emblem for it my priorities would shift but for now I'm skipping it.
(did they fix the holder-dock thing scratching the screen?)
My sisters got one, told my dad he should get her the new Mario. But secretly thats cus I wanna play it
Switch is definitely my favorite console to ever come out, and it's not even a year old yet.
That's what you get for making Mario playable on the shitter.
ive been leaning on getting a switch but i just don't see if id use it right now

Just look at the games available right now and if there is nothing of interest then wait. Look for the games that release in the next 1-2 years. Games some time away are Shin Megami Tensei V, Bayonetta 3, No More Heroes, Project Octopath Traveller, Fire Emblem, Metroid Prime 4, (possibly) Animal Crossing, Phönix Wright, Pokemon, etc. And then get one.
Did they fix that issue with the screen scratching on the dock? Thats pretty much the only reason I'm not buying it. I already dealt with original 3ds design flaws.
Still haven't had that be a real issue, but just get a glass screen protector for like $10 (here's the one I use) and you'll never see any scratches ever. It's an essential purchase for a non-clamshell form factor device anyway.

I have put a piece of little fur into the dock where the screen slides in. Pretty much solves that thing. I do have minor scratches on the back of the hardware but it's only visible if you hold it towards light.
Where is the bar? The trailer actually showcased everything the Wii U was capable off and didn't lie about anything.
The actual reasons why the Wii U didn't sell:
- Bad name (people confused it with the Wii, didn't know it was a successor)
- Bad concept (you could play off-tv but not always, you could use the Pro Controller but not always, not even devs knew what they should do with the console)
- Bad marketing (mostly targeted towards kids)
- Bad design (very unattractive and looks like designed for children)
The Switch doesn't have any of these issues.
(Emphasis mine)
Rewatch the E3 reveal trailer. Every single slide talks about "The new controller", they never, not once said "This is the new console." They were so focused on the controller that for months most people didn't even know it was a console, most people thought it was a new controller for the Wii. Then once people in the know (us) did know it was a console it was almost impossible to get casual players to understand that it's not a controller.
There are people who don't know what the Wii U is to this day because they just gave up trying to find out.
That said the Switch is the polar opposite of the Wii U in almost every way and I can't wait for mine to get here.

I must be doing something wrong because I only have a tiny, tiny scratch at the very bottom left of the bezel itself. I've been handling this thing like shit, too, like I sometimes just put it in my bag without a case if I'm in a rush.
See, that's just unacceptable to me. Maybe when Switch lite comes out, it'll be fixed.
I mean if you don't have a screen protector on a device, it's going to get damaged.
With a screen protector on the switch, the Dock will never scratch it.

I always throw a screen protector on my shit, because accidental bumps and bruises (i.e., stuff the manufacturer didn't intend the device to have to deal with) just happen and it's easy to fix.
But a screen getting damaged when interfacing with official hardware (i.e., stuff that the manufacturer intended and engineered the device to do) is unacceptable and worthy of criticism. If that is happening at all, he has a right to be concerned. I shouldn't have to buy third-party accessories or perform my own modification on the hardware to fix an engineering fault.

I mean that's fair, but if you're putting a screen protector on anyways(I kinda assume Nintendo assumed everyone would put one on the device) then the dock issue goes away, so it kinda solves a bunch of issues at once, no?
See, that's just unacceptable to me. Maybe when Switch lite comes out, it'll be fixed.
It's just precaution. I used it without for a whole month without getting scratches on the screen.
Not only is the tech impressive for a portable, but more importantly than that Nintendo made TWO first party titles that released within 7 months of each other, and not only are they good enough to be GOTY contenders, but they both have solid arguments for being the best entries in their respective franchises. Add to that all the third party support, indie devs, and the promise of up to 4 more major franchise entries next year (Kirby, Yoshi, Pokemon, and Metroid) and they've got the software to back up the hardware which was one of the WiiU's major failings.
Even the game with stupid fucking rabbids apparently turned out to be actually pretty great
Nintendo knocked it out of the park in 2017 I can't think of another company that jammed it out harder than they did
Never owned a Nintendo console but even I'm seriously considering getting one.
Never owned a Nintendo console but even I'm seriously considering getting one.
The aftermarket parts community and recent trends toward lootboxes (Nintendo games have none) is what pushed me over the edge.
Mine's Atomic Purple like my GBC used to be.

Yeah, that was a remarkably pleasant surprise. Never expected XCOM: Mario & Rabbids Edition, but it's a great little strategy game. And they just added PVP!

That was actually the first game I bought for the switch, and it's pretty good, even though I hate rabbids.
Last console I bought was a PS3 at launch and before the Switch announcement, I thought I'd never buy another console anymore, since I'm more of a PC gamer. But Nintendo sure knew how to convince me.
Now I'm just hoping for a Netflix app to be added on the Switch.

Call me a pessimist but I don't expect that to last for long. Nintendo themselves may avoid it but third parties will not. There are already ports of terrible f2p mobile games with lootboxes that they charge for up front but still retain the lootboxes. As long as the eShop doesn't turn into shit like Steam with a million asset flips it will be fine hopefully.
Then they should provide the screen protector, in that case.
Your phone isn't any different. Do you demand it comes with your phone?
Your phone isn't any different. Do you demand it comes with your phone?
Yes?
Every phone I've owned comes with screen protection
I'm disappointed the switch doesn't.
Yes?

I've had a LOT of phones over the last 10 years.
Screen protectors have NEVER been bundled in for free. They're always, always an accessory.
Your phone isn't any different. Do you demand it comes with your phone?
Is my phone designed and engineered to interface with a piece of hardware created by the manufacturer of the phone? Will my phone's screen become damaged upon using this feature normally as per manufacturer guidelines? If yes, then I would.
Your phone isn't any different. Do you demand it comes with your phone?
Some phones do. My ZTE Axon 7 came with a proper screen protector, and its not even an expensive phone. To be fair, they were actually fairly generous, with a basic case and USB-C to microUSB adapter.
Though I totally agree the Switch should come with one, given it being a common enough issue.
Your phone isn't any different. Do you demand it comes with your phone?
A phone is completely different dude. The difference is he's complaining specifically about how it can get scratched when doing something the product is specifically designed to do AND is one of its primary selling points.
For your cellphone analogy to apply something like plugging in to the charger port or head phone jack would have to be somehow damaging to the device, which sounds absolutely absurd when you put it that way, but it is literally the exact same case.
Yes accidents happen and screens get scratched, but a device should not be prone to damage when using the device properly, especially since some people might dock and undock on a daily basis.
Additionally saying "just get a screen protector" is basically on par with the whole iPhone 4 "you're holding it wrong" argument.
I bought a switch a few months ago and i've been playing it nonstop.
Really satisfied with my purchase and haven't really had any problems with my switch.
Im glad to be one of those 10 million people (i got mine yesterday in case anyone was curious)
Your phone isn't any different. Do you demand it comes with your phone?
Phones are made with glass screens that can't be scratched even with most metal tools. The Switch's screen is soft plastic and that's utterly indefensible in this day and age. Nintendo could have charged $10 more for the console and given us a glass screen.
I like the console and even I realize this.
Your phone isn't any different. Do you demand it comes with your phone?
I will literally never own a phone that doesn't have screen protection build in. Shitty plastic screen covers don't count, they don't work as effectively as real glass and even the best ones are an annoyance that reduces the quality of the glass by letting it smear and unsmooth.
if something is going to scratch your hard glass screen, it will probably even go through that plastic too. Having a raised edge so that the screen isn't flush with the ground is far better because it distances the phones glass from the debris.
If a phone doesn't have built in protection, it's going to look fucked up fast, even if you take care of it, you're going to drop it, its an unavoidable mistake.
A switch isn't much different. It's a handheld mobile device with a high demand for mobility.

Combined with a build that doesn't have a screen that's flush with the edges, the last phone I had was virtually unbreakable up until you're a total idiot with it. That was thanks to the glass that it has.
It's glass that you'll never need to worry about unless you neglect it VS a... soft plastic
I mean lets be real, its not even a race. One of the two horses doesn't have any legs.
