I was listening to a podcast with some of the people from the Obama administration on the Bin Laden operation the other day, and they did actually mention something like this. Abbotabad was a pretty well-off area in Pakistan, in which most children did attend school there, but one of the clues that something was up at what was Osama's compound was the fact that they noticed none of the children they saw there ever left to attend school like everyone else in the area. In addition to all of the obviously very high security in it. Makes sense that he'd want to keep them educated though.
