Real question is, what was the worst game of 2017?
PUBG is a nominee for GOTY? Fuck off.
Real question is, what was the worst game of 2017?
quickly turning out to be battlefront 2 i think
Most Anticipated Game:
fuck off
tbh the only reason I'm going to watch the VGAs is for the possible Death Stranding trailer
I'm glad Automata got a good number of nominations. Superhot VR was fun as fuck if lacking in content, so I hope it wins the vr category. Not surprised seeing Cuphead in there aswell.
A Hat in Time not nominated for Indie Game of the Year? Heresy
Cuphead needs to win best Art Direction. There has quite literally never been anything nearly as visually pleasing as that game ever.
Same for music. I have an inkling feeling Destiny 2 will win that because of $$$ from Actiblizz.
PUBG is a huge mess, but compared to the other multiplayer nominees id say it should win. Def not GOTY tho Im also really glad Divinity: Original Sin 2 is up there for RPGS
What kind of message does it show everyone that an average at best early access title can be considered game of the year
Really I'm just waiting for the /v/GA's
Night in the Woods should be under best soundtrack, the music in that is like a warm hug Glad to see Tooth and Tail under best strategy game, even if I know it won't win
I hope Persona gets some recognition. I can easily see it being edged out in every category it's in
Hollow Knight not being nominated for best indie is a goddamn travesty
What kind of message does it show everyone that an average at best early access title can be considered game of the year
A game's state of completeness doesn't determine how much people will enjoy the game?
A game's state of completeness doesn't determine how much people will enjoy the game?
I feel like you should take quality and polish into account when giving out awards too, both of which PUBG is sorely lacking
If Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice doesn't swipe the Best Audio Design award I'll be really surprised. Not since BF:BC2 has video game audio truly "jumped out" at me to the same extent.
As normal, the independent games category seems to the one where all the nominees feel like they deserve to be there. NiTW, Cuphead and Edith Finch especially seem like great choices for it.
Also Divinity: Original Sin 2 for best rpg or bust.

I don't want to sound like a huge fanboy but where's Sonic Mania in Best Score/Music? I'm pretty shocked it didn't get nominated, Tee Lopes Did a amazing job with the soundtrack.
A Hat in Time not nominated for Indie Game of the Year? Heresy
Imagine if it's because of the two lines Jontron did
I can see NitW, Persona 5, and even massive games like BotW getting overlooked in favour of games that are good but ultimately don't have the same lasting it factor as BotW, Persona 5 and NitW. I'm saying I think those 3 games are special in a way that PUBG, Destiny 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn are not, despite them being pretty good games in their own right. Besides PUBG. Like, it shows how weird our perception on games is when our GOTY nominees include multiple literal masterpieces, a below average early access game and an adequate Far Cry game, and I'm genuinely expecting the masterpieces to lose. I don't mean to sound pretentious, but I think it'll suck a lot if gaming doesn't recognise the particularly special games over good games even in the mainstream. It kinda helps cement the slightly lower artistic view people have of games over other media, and teaches the wrong lessons to developers, consumers, critics and publishers. Then again I don't know if other people feel if NitW is any more special than Horizon Zero Dawn so I could be talking entirely out of my arse. also this is a fucking video game award show I should not be giving it this much thought
Cuphead needs to win best Art Direction. There has quite literally never been anything nearly as visually pleasing as that game ever.
Cuphead is just beautiful. And I've yet to play it still :c
Cuphead needs to win best Art Direction. There has quite literally never been anything nearly as visually pleasing as that game ever.
I'd say it isn't so head and shoulders above Persona 5 to be a no-brainer. They're both games that could win in a landslide in any other year. I feel like Cuphead is the bigger artistic achievement, while Persona has the more creative and compelling aesthetic direction. The menus in Persona still blow my mind.
A Hat in Time not nominated for Indie Game of the Year? Heresy
To be fair, there's extremely tough competition this year from what I've seen and/or played. The other games on that list are all amazing afaik.
Really I'm just waiting for the /v/GA's
It's coming fam
To be fair, there's extremely tough competition this year from what I've seen and/or played. The other games on that list are all amazing afaik.
It could easily replace Slime Rancher tbh.
I'm glad to see AbleGamers represented on that list. They've lately done a good job at campaigning for accessibility features (which are mostly not hard or expensive to implement if you start development with these things in mind).
