I was only looking at the Best Independent Game section, whoops :v:
The Best Debut Indie Game is a different matter for sure, even though it was overall an amazing year for indie titles.
Also, Dragonball FighterZ not being nominated for most anticipated is a head-scratcher. The level of hype for that game is otherworldly, and the game was easily one of the biggest standouts of E3.
persona 5 in goty is beyond surprising, rooting for it to win even though I doubt it

I won't lie, my total lack of faith in mainstream gaming press means I think Horizon Zero Dawn or PUBG are the most likely to win despite being totally out of place next to the other three.
the music in destiny 2 wasn't memorable at all. Marty is gone.
I don't want to sound like a huge fanboy but where's Sonic Mania in Best Score/Music? I'm pretty shocked it didn't get nominated, Tee Lopes Did a amazing job with the soundtrack.

As much as I agree Sonic deserves a spot in best music (as always) Cuphead definitely deserves to win this one for the amount of effort that went into each song. Fully recording big bands and staying true to the the era is an amazing accomplishment. I would be surprised if anyone else won.

Watch as BotW and Mario Odyssey split the votes for each other and some other game wins

Good. As great as those games are they do not deserve to be featured in as many categories as they are - neither should honestly be in Audio / Music at the very least.
Yay I’m happy to see Cuphead up there! Especially for best music.
cuphead's music is fun n all but Nier's soundtrack blows everything out of the water and if they don't pick it for best music this shit is rigged
replace PUBG with nier in goty list
nier automata was my first nier game and its honestly my favorite game ever because of the gameplay/story combo
I may get a few funnies here from people who don't know what it is, but I honestly think we should be seeing Doki Doki Literature Club somewhere on this list.

Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey have fantastic audio and music what the fuck are you smoking? Of course they deserve to be on there
Death stranding not being on the most anticipated list is definite proof that geoff Keighley has been replaced by a lizard man and is the sole reason pubg is on the goty list
[editline]14th November 2017[/editline]
Yoko Taro was fucking robbed, he and platinum worked together to make a fucking beautiful game that deserves well more than pubg to have the chance to go up against persoba 5 and 2 top nintendo ips
I don't understand how OW is in the E-sports category when it's struggling to even exist because Blizz are making really, really weird decisions and it's taking forever.

It's all about the money. And which Blizzard has a lot of it invested in the League and its team backers.
Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey have fantastic audio and music what the fuck are you smoking? Of course they deserve to be on there
I think he's stating a sentiment that if a game is really fucking good and deserves to be in multiple categories we should leave it out to be fair to other games who are less deserving but aren't in multiple categories, which is kind of ridiculous to me. Also if he thinks Odyssey and BotW don't have brilliant sound design then he's likely not played them, so there's that.

I too love the sound of silence when I play video games.
No but for real, I can see why BotW is in sound design, and Mario has some good music, but I don't think both of them deserve to be in both categories.
Cuphead needs to win best Art Direction. There has quite literally never been anything nearly as visually pleasing as that game ever.
I dunno, Persona 5 has an amazing art style and that game is fantastic.
I'd nominate Cuphead as Best Music for the hard work they put into their soundtrack for sure though
I really liked Cuphead's audio design as well, I felt that it should have been nominated for that as well.

Does the effort put into it really matter though since it's only the end product that really counts? If they had managed somehow to create the soundtrack effortlessly, would that mean they don't deserve to be on the list?
'Game of the Year' hast most always just been 'most popular game of this year'
Most of the lineup is alright for an industry awards thing, but the section pertaining to multiplayer games and esports sounds like a bad joke. Holy shit is that section a disaster this year.
how is anime an amazing art style just go on deviantart and you'll see that ur wrong
wtf is persona 5

Mechanically it's a totally adequate esports game tho, it's just all the weird ass business stuff around it.
But, my dudes, Knack 2???
How is GTA Online nominated for "Best Ongoing Game". It's a complete dumpster fire and the only reason it is even close to as popular as it is, is because it's resting on the excellent single player assets.
Best Chinese Game
Why?

I'm honestly surprised the game was nominated for any sort of "best ______" award. The game is HORRIBLY unbalanced for new players to the point where you're probably going to get fucked around and unable to do anything about it, and the community is among the worst I've seen. The only reason I can think it would be nominated is because Rockstar is intentionally holding new content hostage in the online aspect, forcing you to play it as an inconvenient singleplayer where instead of a random NPC attack, you'll have jets and flying bikes bomb you while calling you racial slurs loud enough that you can't tell if the glass breaking is coming from the person yelling or if your window just got shattered, along with your eardrums.
Come to think about it, if I had gotten the game right around the time Gunrunning came out instead of I/E and the Comet Retro, I probably would've shelved the game for all eternity. The only reason I haven't is because I actually have the money and means to fight back against XXXPISSBABYXXX in a batmobile with a jet engine and thirty unavoidable homing rockets.

I don't think it's even the single player, it's just the same reason CoD and Fifa are popular. We got peak mass market appeal combined with massive marketing and an absolutely enormous installed userbase of users less involved in the market than others who therefore don't know any better. I'm not trying to sound like an arse here going filthy casuals it's just some people aren't going on forums and ranting about loot boxes and snobbing over artsy indie games, they just wanna enjoy glitsty fun games off the shelf.
