-snip- wrong year
I don't have a nintendo console so it feels like a slow year.
Is Best Ongoing supposed to be like persistent world or still being updated or something? And why are all the nominees shooters? And why is poor Warframe pitted against 5 much more known and supposedly popular shooters?
pubg is everything I hate in games. How on earth is it nominated?!? It's a shitty twitch trend mess, that will most likely launch chocked full of microtransactions and zero bugs fixed.
I may get a few funnies here from people who don't know what it is, but I honestly think we should be seeing Doki Doki Literature Club somewhere on this list.
doki doki literature club is pretty much weeb 5 nights at freddie's at this point
It's not even like the GTA:O Content updates are good, a shitload of money is going into the game, but the content getting added are all really, really mediocre missions and concepts that get dropped right after the update comes out. Likelihood of weapon research, heists, CEO work ever getting touched again? Probably 0
I'm honestly surprised the game was nominated for any sort of "best ______" award. The game is HORRIBLY unbalanced for new players to the point where you're probably going to get fucked around and unable to do anything about it, and the community is among the worst I've seen. The only reason I can think it would be nominated is because Rockstar is intentionally holding new content hostage in the online aspect, forcing you to play it as an inconvenient singleplayer where instead of a random NPC attack, you'll have jets and flying bikes bomb you while calling you racial slurs loud enough that you can't tell if the glass breaking is coming from the person yelling or if your window just got shattered, along with your eardrums. Come to think about it, if I had gotten the game right around the time Gunrunning came out instead of I/E and the Comet Retro, I probably would've shelved the game for all eternity. The only reason I haven't is because I actually have the money and means to fight back against XXXPISSBABYXXX in a batmobile with a jet engine and thirty unavoidable homing rockets.
I liked fucking about with friends and stuff for a while, but the way the matchmaking and networking works and the gating content behind insane amounts of currency and level grinds is about as stimulating as dry humping a bed of nails. On top of that, the community is full of either little shits or hackers who prey on the unsuspecting. For all the different jobs and activities that are available, none of them feel particularly satisfying or rewarding aside from performing Heists.
I'd argue PUBG being as popular as it is without even being finished is a damning indictment for the future of the games industry, being nominated for awards and possibly winning? the fuck does it matter the damn thing has sold millions, damage is already done.
End Early Acess Please
i agree with all of the GOTY contenders except for PUBG
imo XV gets too much flak because of the overly high expectations tied to a final fantasy game, especially one in the making for 10 years. if you look at it on its own, it's a great game with great mechanics
FF15 had a shallow, low impact combat system; supported by a world that never really got deeper then "You can have a chicken nugget with your potion, LOL!"
i dont get how best ongoing can go to either destiny or overwatch considering both almost never actually have content updates
So do regular map/character/balance updates not count as content updates now. Personally Nier wins both best narrative and best music.
If nier doesn't win best music at least I will riot. They made up a fictional language to sing in for the series, and it sounds beautiful. If that isn't musical talent, then what is?
I'd love to see NITW win just for Scott Benson's speech.
Good. As great as those games are they do not deserve to be featured in as many categories as they are - neither should honestly be in Audio / Music at the very least.
While the BOTW soundtrack wasn't the most memorable, its usage in the game was well done as it reflected the atmosphere and feel of the game and blended in and out perfectly with the gameplay, and that's probably the reason why it got nominated. The music in Odyssey was great as well. Probably one of the best scores for a Mario game since Galaxy 1. So many good melodies.
I feel like apart from the GOTY nominees and the esport shit, the rest of the awards have a pretty good lineup compared to other years.
Has no one noticed they mixed up the pictures for Fire Emblem Heroes (the mobile game) and Fire Emblem Echos: Shadows of Valentia (the 3ds game). [t]https://i.imgur.com/LiKkGuD.png[/t] [t]https://i.imgur.com/zf9k0mq.png[/t]
ooooo please let Rocket League win Esports GOTY it genuinely deserves it. Psyonix is great to their community and they definitely deserve a feather under their cap.

Tis a funky smooth jam.
I'll be disappointed if Hellblade doesn't win Best Audio Design and Best Performance.

where's my yakuza 0 at >:(
But who is going to win the Hideo Kojima "Best friend of Geoff Keighley" award? I hope it's Hideo Kojima.
Warframe needs to win only for the fact that you can have a literal glass cannon that can shoot radioactive fragmenting glass slugs which infect your enemies with space AIDS. You can be a walking war crime! :v:
All in all, even with some bad apples, this year has been pretty dang cool for gaming. I'm excited for next year for sure, especially with Nintendo and Sony bringing out the big guns for E3 2018.
Best Role-playing Game is the category where I'll be sad the others lost no matter what wins. Persona, Divinity, and NieR were all great games that all deserve it. Also PUBG just straight robbed NieR for that GotY slot like what the hell are they smoking?
Does the effort put into it really matter though since it's only the end product that really counts? If they had managed somehow to create the soundtrack effortlessly, would that mean they don't deserve to be on the list?
Well I mean in this case the hard work comes through and the soundtrack is excellent, and that's what I meant
doki doki literature club is pretty much weeb 5 nights at freddie's at this point
Man what an awful take Have you even played it
There should be a "Most Nickle and Dimed" category for all the bullshit microtransaction over playability garbage that has been pouring out lately.
