Pyre not being nominated for music and visuals is a joke.
PUBG is a nominee for GOTY? Fuck off.
The game sure as fuck has had more impact on the market than almost everything listed in any of those categories. Despite being an unfinished mess right now it has changed the landscape of the industry quite a bit and offered a fun (when it works) experience that not many other multiplayer games can really match. Maybe not GOTY material (Nier: Automata holds that fuckin spot, other games better back the fuck down), but definitely one of the better multiplayer games this year just for being more than a standard FPS. [editline]14th November 2017[/editline]
Pyre not being nominated for music and visuals is a joke.
Supergiant make some of the prettiest, best sounding titles on the market. It's a damn shame they don't always get awarded for it. [editline]14th November 2017[/editline]
Death stranding not being on the most anticipated list is definite proof that geoff Keighley has been replaced by a lizard man and is the sole reason pubg is on the goty list
If he was a true lizard man the entire "most anticipated" category would be PUBG. Screens throughout the show would subliminally flash "PUBG" and pictures of PU himself. Geoff would slowly acquire the PU outfit as the night goes on. And upon leaving everyone would be herded into a plane and dropped off on a remote island with the goal of surviving.
A bit disappointing that South Park in only in one category. Anything in best RPG deserves it... well maybe not FFXV. It wasn't as impressive as I hoped it would be.
Man what an awful take Have you even played it
yes and I enjoyed it, however a lot of the appeal comes in the twists that are now being spoiled all over the internet
I'm glad to see AbleGamers represented on that list. They've lately done a good job at campaigning for accessibility features (which are mostly not hard or expensive to implement if you start development with these things in mind).
AbleGamers have done quite a lot of stupid shit as well though, like complaining about Advanced Warfare because the wallrunning made it inaccessible.
yes and I enjoyed it, however a lot of the appeal comes in the twists that are now being spoiled all over the internet
Idk, theres a lot more to it than just the [sp]twists and subversions. I thought that the writing, characters, and design were all excellent and worth experiencing regardless. Either way the comparison to FNaF makes literally zero sense, even Undertale would be more apt[/sp] [editline]14th November 2017[/editline]
I may get a few funnies here from people who don't know what it is, but I honestly think we should be seeing Doki Doki Literature Club somewhere on this list.
I think it's just too recent and not well known enough to get the recognition. I think it definitely deserves a nod in [sp]games for impact given how well it handled mental illness and depression. Sayori's character was especially well done.[/sp]
The fuck is Doki Doki Literature Club
The fuck is Doki Doki Literature Club
At its barest essentials, it's a (free) visual novel about a literature club. There's a lot more to it that I think makes it super worth checking out (and makes it one of my top 5 games of the year in a really stacked year), but it really benefits from going in as blind as possible so I don't want to go into much detail. Nobody I've recommended it to has regret playing it.
There is absolutely nothing PUBG should win. Also I hope Siege wins best ongoing. also this entire event is lacking hat in time
Nier should've been on the GOTY nominees more than pubg on the sole account of being a finished game :v:
prey should be in best art design [editline]14th November 2017[/editline] that late 70s-early 90s sci-fi executive look is top tier aesthetics
Really glad NieR got multiple nominations, that game was too brilliant to be forgotten just because it released early in the year.
Shroud is so boring. Summit should replace his spot
Destiny 2 for best ongoing game and it's only been out for a month and a bit. Jesus.
There should be a "Most Nickle and Dimed" category for all the bullshit microtransaction over playability garbage that has been pouring out lately.
This is the VGAs not the /v/GAs
Vote for cs:go since its apparently the only way valve is still relevant. And ignore pubg.
destiny 2 over path of exile for best ongoing game? huh?
The fuck is Doki Doki Literature Club
So I don't consider the following thing to have any spoilers because the game kinda knows you know this stuff going in, but Ima spoiler tag it anyway because bans and people being more spoiler sensitive than me: [sp]The best execution of a meta game that I've ever seen, combined with some pretty interesting layered exploration of a bunch of different themes. It frames all this as a cutesy pervy visual novel, which it kinda uses to criticise visual novels, but more importantly the juxtaposition of it all is pretty intense. I can't explain it further than that without ruining stuff. Also it's only a few hours long and is free, so I'd recommend anyone give it a whirl. Its use of meta elements is beyond anything Undertale or Pony Island managed in my opinion, and Undertale was my GOTY for 2015. [/sp] It is in my Top 5 this year, a year where three out of five of the games I picked I consider to be actual masterpieces.
I'm surprised Sonic Mania was only on there for family games; not that I expect it would even come close to winning GOTY (not to mention it panders to nostalgia primarily instead of innovating gameplay), but even so, it's still a mighty fine game.
Best ongoing game GTA Online? Also PUBG for GOTY, that's a pretty good joke if i've ever seen one
doki doki literature club is pretty much weeb 5 nights at freddie's at this point
DDLC isn't anywhere near Five Nights at Freddy's at this stage. You'd need to have a Game Theory video for that. The fanbase is also heavily self aware from what I've seen and actively avoids spoiling the game while also producing mildly funny fan content.
Most Anticipated Game: The Last of Us Part II Red Dead Redemption II Monster Hunter: World Marvel's Spider-Man God of WAr
What is the point of this? Who has the best trailer? Who has the biggest fanbase? What's next, "Predicted game of the year 2018"? Like what the fuck is the point of this?!
yes and I enjoyed it, however a lot of the appeal comes in the twists that are now being spoiled all over the internet
It took me seconds to work out the twists, and I still enjoyed it. Do I get a medal? It's a tragedy that's playing on some very well known tropes and the player's knowledge that it's a tragedy playing on some very well known tropes. You're supposed to have an idea of what's going down, but you're still drawn in because it's a well written story with well written characters and a lot of interesting subtext and intrigue. I think if you think all the appeal comes from the twist it's kind of a failure on your part.
I hope Persona 5 wins best music. I love that soundtrack
I'm hoping BOTW wins GOTY out of those picks. The game has been nitpicked to death as people focus on its major flaws in retrospect, but it's the game I've had the most fun with this year.
I'm hoping BOTW wins GOTY out of those picks. The game has been nitpicked to death as people focus on its major flaws in retrospect, but it's the game I've had the most fun with this year.
Honestly, the people nitpicking it are suffering from gaming's usual obsession with taking down things people like, the game is an absolute marvel of game design. I'm not saying it's perfect, it has a lot of flaws, I'm just saying that in all the flaw finding we seemed to have failed to acknowledge that it's one of the most incredible games to come out in the past decade. The way open worldyness and exploration and player freedom just seep into every facet of that game, I'd argue it's one of the first truly open open world games ever made.
wtf is Horizon: Zero Dawn and why is it nominated for goty
wtf is Horizon: Zero Dawn and why is it nominated for goty
An open world action game that came out a week before BOTW and got massively overshadowed as a result. I hear it's decent.
I -like- Destiny 2 but what the fuck, "ongoing game" outside of the faction rallies and the nightfalls which are basically randomly generated, they've added fuck all, even to the ingame store which was used to fuck up shaders and collectible ship purchasing. Like, sacrifices to make money, but nothing has gone into the game outside of what, an emote?
Games for Impact: Life is Strange: Before the Storm
Honestly, I am not entirely sure why this game is on here.
