I'mma ignore the subjective picks and just focus on the ones that objectively don't make sense ...from what I recall has an esports league that wants to to leave this ever meta changing game, but Blizzard keeps throwing money for it to happen. ...is a fucking disgrace to pc hardware. ...came out last year. Yet the sequel/ultra edition comes out this week.
So we're just not going to talk about the fact that a crappy licensed game that was published by a publisher got indie game of the year? It isn't even an indie game! Ignoring the fact that even if it was an indie it was a shit indie game released in a year full of amazing indie games.
Wait, Friday the 13th fucking won? What the shit?

Having a publisher doesn't disqualify a game from being indie, see stardew or a hat in time. There's also the fact Telltale games are indie but get a hold of big licenses, tho this one just reeks of cash grab. All I know it's riding hard on that license, even though it doesn't need to, and that the game was super broken on launch and last I heard about it, but I didn't know enough to call its bullshit.
It beat out Cuphead, Hellblade, Night in the Woods and a whole bunch of others.
It's not even in the game awards nominees, no one has mentioned it again since the month after the release. Everything about that seems like a bad choice, but I let it be cuz I guess someone found the gameplay super fun. More power to them.
Atleast this years snarkathon will be a real treat

Honestly, I don’t find that good enough reasoning to give a shit nonindie game an indie game award, I think even the VGAs have more class than that.
So Ashly Burch could do Horizon whatever but not LiS? I know she was doing some strike or whatever but what the poop
Are you really faulting her for participating in a much deserved strike? HZD's voice over was recorded long before Oct 2016 (when the strike started).
pubg well deserving of goty, never seen a game executed so flawlessly and have such well thought out gameplay. Also surprised league of legends isn't in there since tencent owns them and is a major sponsor of the awards.
Are you really faulting her for participating in a much deserved strike? HZD's voice over was recorded long before Oct 2016 (when the strike started).
Fair enough then. Still sucks. Game didn't feel right
pubg well deserving of goty, never seen a game executed so flawlessly and have such well thought out gameplay.
I want to try whatever you're smoking.
Best chinese game should include pubg tbh [editline]19th November 2017[/editline] its even built like a Chinese product too
...came out last year. Yet the sequel/ultra edition comes out this week.
Since they do the awards in November, games that come out in that month aren't eligible. So games that came out in November/December 2016 were eligible for this year's awards, and games that come out in November/December 2017 will be eligible next year.
If they're letting early access games be nominees how in the fuck is Dead Cells not on the list for best art direction, but fucking DESTINY 2 is?
Because Destiny 2 has some absolutely gorgeous art.
I can see why Destiny 2 might be nominated for best art but how the hell is it nominated for best audio and soundtrack??
That makes less sense. The soundtrack isn't bad by any means, but there are countless better picks this year. Night in the Woods deserved a nomination for it.
I can see why Destiny 2 might be nominated for best art but how the hell is it nominated for best audio and soundtrack??
Destiny 1 and 2 have amazing music what are you talking about?
Destiny 1 and 2 have amazing music what are you talking about?
Of all the things I see people criticize Destiny on, this might be the one that confuses me the most. Even if you don't like anything about the gameplay, both games have beautiful (and diverse) art design and music. Regardless of whether or not you enjoy the music itself, the techniques used to show off the soundtrack are underappreciated in general and rarely used in games like this. It makes for an especially intense, impactful experience that I personally don't get to enjoy very often.

Anyone that has played Halo is bound to remember the theme for example.
ashly burch is a terrible VA and does absolutely not deserve any award.
Except she's friends with Keighley
I'm surprised, and kind of upset, that Persona 5 didn't get the best soundtrack award, the music in that game is absolutely incredible, but I guess BotW is still a good alternative for winning, the audio in it was fantastic for establishing the atmosphere.
Am I missing something? The Golden Joysticks and the Game Awards are completely different things, last I checked.
No, I think you're right, I think I was mixing the two up, my bad. I still hope Persona 5 wins best soundtrack though.
Yeah I think maybe a few people have been confusing the two here. The Game Awards' winners will only be revealed in December.
i can't believe an unfinished buggy pos game could even be nominated nevermind win.
Look at what it was competing against.
