Marvel Wants Comic Shops To Dress Like Hydra, Fails Horribly
Disney hasnt done anything, its their inaction thats allowed Marvel to become such shit.
Not willingly, im betting, its because of Ike Perlmutter. He owns the 4th or 5th highest shares in Disney and has some serious pull iirc, and almost every problem Marvel has now can be correlated back to him in some way, from something he mandated or some action he took. Marvel Studios was separated from them due to Ike and his behavior, at Kevin Feiges request, and Kev is a massive Marvel fanboy, so that should let you know what Ike is like.
Plus that time Ike tried to fuck over Stan Lee, of all people. He has no respect for Marvel or its history, all he cares about is profits and penny pinching.
Darn, that's a shame. If they did something about them and make some kind of netflix/kindle subscription service that held every comic of marvel's that was and will be released, they could make quite a killing financially.
How much of a special snow flake do you have to be to complain about a fictional organization... Wonder what their reaction would be if they were requested to dress up as Storm Troopers.
A fictional organization of Nazis.
If I remember correctly: In Magneto Testament (around 2008-2009) you can read about his story during WW2.
with how big the Hydra story arc was in the MCU, i'm tired of the whole hydra thing in general and I want marvel to focus on something else
So I have no idea what "hydra" is. is it supposed to be an allegory to the nazis?
So I have no idea what "hydra" is. is it supposed to be an allegory to the nazis?
hydra was a skunkworks project within the nazi government in an attempt to harness the energy of an alien object. the man in charge of hydra realised the alien tech made him more powerful than hitler so he wanted to cut out the middleman and take the world for himself.
Okay So, what's the issue? I don't follow Marvel or DC in the slightest.
Okay So, what's the issue? I don't follow Marvel or DC in the slightest.
Hydra originated as a (fictional) nazi organization headed by a nazi and remains closely associated with the nazis.
So I have no idea what "hydra" is. is it supposed to be an allegory to the nazis?
Just a Nazi subdivision that works on alien/super science technology that got to big for it's britches and tried to overtake the Nazis basically.
So while it IS a made up subdivision, it's still a Nazi organisation, so I can see why certain people don't want to parade it around.
So I have no idea what "hydra" is. is it supposed to be an allegory to the nazis?
They started as an evil spy agency (think SPECTRE from Bond movies), but their origins were retconned into Nazi stand in for flashbacks set during WW2, back when depicting Nazis was banned by Comics Code Authority.
That part of their origin has since then become a staple of Hydra, with them being crystalized into Nazi super science/spy devision.
I miss Tony Stark and Bruce Banner.
Im sure the two jewish men who created Steve Rogers specifically to punch Hitler in the mouth would be proud.
It's kind of impressive that they have actually octupled down by doubling every time a gigantic swatch of customers tell them this shit is incredibly insensitive and offensive no matter how they try to retcon it.
First Cap, then hydra is magical space snake people with no prior exegesis, then hydra created civilization as we know it, then there are two hydras gais, then Magneto is a 'real' hydra sympathizer.
It's like watching Jaden Smith try to make a special for the history channel on live tv.
And no one is getting fired for this.
Just astounding.

There's a sequence in the new mutants where he remembers saving a boat full of romani from a U-Boat torpedo, which started the whole thing with his kids, which marvel now says are not his kids and not mutants either because marvel is staffed by abject fucktards at the current time.
Yeah guys I'm pretty sure that Hydra rewrote the past, not the Allies.

No, Secret Empire #0 shows that the Allies rewrote the past, then Caps contact with the cosmic cube undid the original rewrite on him.
I honestly wouldn't be all that upset if they did go through with a "Allies did the holocaust" story. Marvel is making a fictional story, I don't really think fiction can adequately be morally defined. It's tasteless as all hell regardless.
What does piss me off is that this was considered while Marvel has been pumping out "We are morally and socially superior" garbage.

If you took that general concept, the idea of the Allies rewriting reality and making the Axis far more evil than what it was beforehand, it'd probably make a good story. Could be great even.
But its Marvel doing it, so you have to set the expectations low and brace for impact because its going to be used to push some kind of social message because they think anything they do is justified and on point because they've had a history as a company of being conscious towards social issues at the time, which they're ever so quick to remind you about. Historically using a brand they've been attempting VERY FUCKING HARD to destroy and character assassinate over petty shit like movie rights over the past few years, actually. Yeah celebrating being progressive kind of falls flat when you're outright making attempts to kill the book most often associated with that.

Uh is this fucking real?
I feel bad for having to ask that.

Yeah.
Its far from the worst they've done. Its not as bad as the worst shit they've done since 2017 started.
I feel bad having to say that.

Read America #1 and #2.
Holy FUCK.
Yeah, their methodology for getting readership has gone super, super off the rails to the point where it's borderline parody. I think one of the biggest ones of this whole new era was changing Thor to be Jane was so poorly handled that I'm actually surprised they stuck with it for so long. It's a cool idea, except they basically fell up the stairs by creating a mystery that didn't make sense in the end (The character revealed to be Thor... was one who absolutely refused to ever even TOUCH Asgardian tech), then the writing was the most atrociously pandering schlock possible.
The line girl power legitimately appears in one of the earlier books.

Do all comics these days read like this? It's insufferable.
Do all comics these days read like this? It's insufferable.
No.
A number of them, yeah, lot being Marvels books.
Do all comics these days read like this? It's insufferable.
So far its only Marvel that's been getting press. On other comic companies IDW's noses are relatively clean with the only crime being inconsistent release dates for an issue.

From what I've heard the first issue of the Secret Empire event proper has a 'twist' where a character claims that cap was originally hydra and the nazis originally won the war before the allies used the cosmic cube
But the only sources for that information were people that were fucked with by the cube, so it's unreliable
Have we posted that panel of the illegal alien hero punching Hitler in the face yet?
These three panels made absolutely no sense
Ive read both issues.
In context, none of it makes any fucking sense. In fact, removing it from context probably makes it more palatable.

For about an hour I thought Captain America abruptly turned into Hitler.
Admittedly not far from Marvel's current plan.
Honestly this really works as a good satire piece if it had zero context.

Magneto is literally a holocaust survivor right?

"Unsolicited opinions on Israel" always gets me.
I mean, what should he even say behind those censor bars? "You filthy bitch whores sucking dick for a dollar on corner! Also, fuck jews, Israel is not a country!"?
I'm not a huge follower of the Marvel comics. I haven't read into the recent issues.
But given how I know Magneto was a Holocaust survivor, you know what Magneto would do if he was offered to join Hydra?
I'd say he'd at least rather die.
