/pol/ is a joke way too many people take seriously
a smart person once said "if a group of people pretend to be retarded around each other as a joke, eventually actual retards will join the group thinking they're in good company." this is a textbook definition of what happened to /pol/. they aren't joking about this anymore.
I'm living in "white guilt" of academia. My own fault for picking certain courses, profs I will never stray close to again, but it's not even that much of a stretch to say that pop marxism and things like critical race theory are the norms and pushed in humanities faculties. I understand the idea of maybe addressing these theories, but when the course practically revolves around them I feel worried. I came to university late as a 25 year old, and it's downright creepy sometimes watching the profs browbeating people down because of their opinions ones that aren't even crazy. White people = basically the root of all problems in history and today, Capitalism = root of all evil, Marxism totally hasn't been tried before. I took a course called "Contemporary Western Societies" which boils down to the west is the root of all evil. The professor required readings from a marxist revolutionary who accidentally blew himself up in a car bomb. A university down the street from mine had student made posters calling for "communist revolution". Surely others in university currently share some sentiment? I just feel so...disappointed. Before ever coming to university I thought the whole champagne socialist professor was an overblown meme. Not that it's everybody, I have some professors I love but they are a minority. Which is why I'm excited to specialize academically and leave this PC humanities trash behind me and focus solely on war and conflict and things that actually fucking matter in this world. But really I don't care about some big "culture war", neo-nazi white identity garbage, or whatever the fuck, this just reminds me of classical 2007 /b/ harmless trolling, and it's a quite funny initiative. I don't even browse /pol/ but I "support" this cause it rocks the boat and it's funny, and living in the experience of a university I'm exposed to this crap.
Whatever fault lies with the people who took the bait, the greater fault always lies with the people who set it in the first place.

I don't necessarily disagree with them on many issues, but the mere act of disagreeing or wanting to debate them on a topic is often met with vitriol, which is legitimately scary to me.

That's the reason I left the campus activist circles. Besides being under extra scrutiny because I was a white male (which made leftist sectarianism so much worse), there's something that feels off about radical ideologies finding institutional support, it was a culture shock for me coming from a rural and blue collar area as a leftie to campus, which was an ideological bubble compared to its conservative and lower class surroundings. We had no short supply of faculty willing to speak at events. The few board of trustees meetings I went to always griped about how unusually white the school was, how conservative and homogeneous greek life was, and so on. The school never got in the way of inviting speakers or hosting events. We just had Shaun king and some other far leftists speak at an event called 'privilege: white, straight, and male' which the Greek director hosted. Incidentally, the Greek director sports the anti fascist 3 arrows as a FB profile pic and recently made a post saying 'if you're white and not actively taking a stand against white supremacy, you're part of the problem'. He also inquired a hell of a lot as to why our only black guy in the fraternity left. I stopped going to my 'inequality in America' class because the professor didn't take attendance and I already read the various progressive and socialist reading list which included Howard zinn, Robert reich, and gramsci. The school flies the pan African and LGBT flag, and has suggested trump is a hateful threat to marginalized people. Watching college dems and college reps debate was pathetic. Literally the latter's only reply was 'but individualism' in the face of identity politics because they were too afraid to say what they really thought for fear of hate speech. They're too scared to defend any sort of hierarchy. In contrast, some free speech group that hosted an event complete with gadsdens flags without permission (because they couldn't get it) had the cops called on them. Identity evropa put up some posters and the school completely lost its shit, saying it was a message against the schools holocaust center and jewish community. It was like a witch hunt, the president (himself jewish) made some profuse and long statement over email, everyone kept getting emails following the investigation and asking for people to identify the individuals in CCTV images, it made local news. Ideological homogeneity is a terrible thing. It's a sign of institutional rot
Or in /his/ where they come along spreading racist bs. Like the "we wus kings" meme, there were legit african kings (like mansa musa) who were successful but /pol/ peeps come in and try to diminish/deny any of this to push their weird narrative.
People knew /his/ would be vulnerable to /pol/lacks long before the board even existed.
chalk this up with concepts like calling yourself "pro-life" or calling your nazi rally "a free spech" rally as soon as a person who see's through your weak bullshit (which is everyone) opposes you you can immediately go "see, they're anti-life!!!" "see, they're anti free speech!!!" "see, they're anti-white!!!" it's a pretty classic strategy actually

You should be able to disagree with this stuff but not stand alongside white identity clowns. But your college sounds significantly worse than mine.

It's okay to be white, just not a racial supremacist.
Problem is being anti "sjw" shouldn't be lumped in with dumb fucks like identity evropa, fuck those people. You should be able to disagree with this stuff but not stand alongside white identity clowns. But your college sounds significantly worse than mine.
It's because it's a second rate liberal arts college formerly known as a party school in the woods that's like 90% white, unusual for the state It's trying to reform itself away from that image by cracking down on greek life and diversifying while expanding from a small student body
It's okay to be white, just not a racial supremacist.
You don't have to have white skin to be racial supremacist.
That last quote is exactly what they are looking for, the response should never be that would mean that people link white with white supremacist. It's like saying "It's okay to be Arab but not a terrorist" or "it's ok to be a Woman but not a golddigger", it makes a link right off the bat however small it is. If the response was a simple "yeah, ok" we wouldn't even have this discussion, it would have simply been ignored.

It's okay to be white, just not a racial supremacist.
Here's the thing though, you are putting the two together, as if one regularly comes alongside the other.
Here's the thing though, you are putting the two together, as if one regularly comes alongside the other.
I'm doing the opposite actually.
I'm doing the opposite actually.
Sorta are if you look at it from a distance. It's an asterisk that doesn't need to be there. Had it not been apparent that this was from /pol/, there wouldn't be the backlash.
. By using the false narrative that anti-racist groups and "SJWs" have racist intentions against whites they can push the real meaning behind it: "It's okay to be a white supremacist.."
Except that the supposed racism of anti-racists and sjws isn't an all or none, black or white type thing. To generalize and say that it's a non problem is exactly the reason why we have all these nazis and white supremacists out there. They see you as a threat to them and their identity, so why should you continue to add fuel to the fire?
this is white supremacist's attempt at "rebranding" with a friendlier, more acceptable message they're actually ripping a page straight out of black lives matter's handbook, because when you call this shit out for what it is they can respond with "so you think its not okay to be white!??! look who's the REAL racist here!" don't fall for it
this is white supremacist's attempt at "rebranding" with a friendlier, more acceptable message they're actually ripping a page straight out of black lives matter's handbook, because when you call this shit out for what it is they can respond with "so you think its not okay to be white!??! look who's the REAL racist here!" don't fall for it
Alternatively, it's a bunch of internet trolls laughing at the only people dumber than them. This has been 4chan's go-to since it's inception.
I think it's a smart play. There's hardly any way to respond to it without playing into /pol/'s hands. If you leave it alone, it alone reinforces the whites are under attack narrative by putting forward the presumption that it's thought that it's a commonly held idea that it's not okay to be white nowadays. If you attack it, you look like someone who's saying it's not okay to be white, which again supports the narrative /pol/ wants to push. You can try to de-construct it and point out what it's doing but the only people who are gonna read that are people already into social justice politics, so you're just preaching to the choir, to people who don't need to have it explained to them. Bretty good.
If I saw it, I'd write ", but don't be a dick about" on it. Boom blew it up.
Alternatively, it's a bunch of internet trolls laughing at the only people dumber than them. This is blatant trolling and the target audience fell for it hard.
That's a strawman if I've ever seen one.
What? He's exactly right. Unite the Right was filled with alt-righters covered in /pol/ meme garbage.
That's a strawman if I've ever seen one.
No those are tiki torches, the men are as brittle as straw though.
Unite the Right was filled with alt-righters covered in /pol/ meme garbage.
No disagreement here. That says nothing about the origins of these posters though. What you're doing is the same as conflating gamergate with 'anti-women hate mob'.
This is blatant trolling and the target audience fell for it hard.
Labeling it as "trolling" only ignores the real problem that may soon become a threat. Their views are becoming more acceptable on the internet, so they gain a courage to go out spread their beliefs.
That's a strawman if I've ever seen one.
Nah, /pol/ has been Poe'd the fuck out over the past five years or so. It used to be "ironic" but now it has pretty much genuinely shifted hard right - huge overlap between those tiki-toting douchebags and the anons that populate it now.
Labeling it as "trolling" only ignores the real problem that may soon become a threat. Their views are becoming more acceptable on the internet, so they gain a courage to go out spread their beliefs.
The view that it's ok to be white? Because the moment someone says "It's better to be white" or "It's not ok to not be white" is when shit will hit the fan. No amount of spamming "It's ok to be white" is going to make people find the other two OK. What it will do though is give people the opportunity to laugh at racist idiots complaining about and defacing those signs. That seems to be exactly what's going on here despite /pol/'s involvement.
This isn't actually as harmless as it seems. This kind of rhetoric is meant to reinforce the narrative that whites are under attack, which white supremacists use to rope in more recruits for their movement.
Then don't do anything about it, attacking it reinforces the narrative to bring more people in.
Labeling it as "trolling" only ignores the real problem that may soon become a threat. Their views are becoming more acceptable on the internet, so they gain a courage to go out spread their beliefs.
And this is the crucial point, really. They've got themselves a nicely defensible position with this flyer, because you can't really attack it without justifying them, but allowing them to establish the idea that "being white" is something you have to be reminded that it is OK to be gives them a beachhead to start expanding on their stupid-ass "Whites are oppressed" meme.
