so you're just derailing or what
It is never okay to discuss gun violence?
At this point, further gun control action is useless. There's too many guns in this country. If someone wants a banned weapon, they'll get it.
Glad nobody was killed by the shooter -- sounds like a real fucked up guy. Scalise and Brooks showed incredible bravery and leadership. God bless these folks and the Capitol Police.
so you're just derailing or what
I'm discussing a shooting in which politicians got shoot for inherently political reasons. I'm suggesting that Trump reckless rhetoric might have encouraged this guy. Maybe. Not really a derail, I think it's squarely on topic.
Am I the only one who is at least a little bit pleased someone decided to strike fear back into the government? Descending policies will cost many thousands of American lives just so they can line their pockets. The government is corrupt as fuck right now and the next three people in line for presidency, even if trump does get impeached (he wont), will pull that same party line just as hard or harder than trump has.
Had tyrannical does a government need to get before violent action is justified?
Violence of any kind from any side is obviously inexcusable. That being said, I consider the GOP to be primarily responsible for the escalation of extreme partisanship in the current political climate.
I'd also be lying if I said I wasn't interested to see what their response to a direct encounter with the darker side of the second amendment will be.
Partisanship in Congress is not an excuse for citizens to fire on Congressmen. If anything, that's very subtle victim blaming.

Have we lost any of the rights promised by the Bill of Rights? No? Then there is no tyranny.
What kind of nation do you really want to live in where government members must risk being shot at in order to do their job, partisan or otherwise?

It is sickening you find it pleasing that people were shot like this.

idk man as much as I hate this current government, I'm not really the sort to hope for action like this to become necessary or the norm.
it's just another reminder that we're kind of going down the shitter as a country.

If you don't realize our bill of rights is frequently bent or outright broken then you're not paying enough attention.

thaaaaaat doesn't justify attempted murder.
Trump has already set in motion policies, and has proposed others, which will -actually- kill me and probably my best friend, or at least ruin her life. We wouldn't likely survive a second trump term, so excuse me if im a little happy someone is making the people responsible a little afraid too, cuz I sure am.

Where has it been "bent or outright broken"?

Do give a brief explanation because I'm genuinely curious.

I figured it was only a matter of time before this became so outrageous that citizens of the USA would start turning deadly violent against government officials. And I honestly can't blame them. What else are we to do? We have no voice, we're being shit on left and right, Money is being put before anything else, and it's reaching a tipping point. It's probably only going to get worse the longer the government continues this way. I mean just look at your situation. Why wouldn't you be a little happy about it. I would be, too, if I was in your shoes. It's fucking shitty but damn, the people are only going to take so much and especially now with the government trying to pass legislation that will either kill or put people in debt and squalor

If you believe that the right thing was done today, and that your rights are being irrevocably infringed upon, and you think that violence is truly the best course of action, then go ahead and be violent yourself.
But we all know you wont put your money where your mouth is, because the truth is it just hasn't gotten to that point yet. Sure, it is possible for things to get so bad that violence seems reasonable, but it is not currently the case.
I'm about to lose my health insurance in two months and require frequent doctor visits and medication for a gastrointestinal disability and chronic bronchitis which I can't do without insurance but I ain't about to bust out a gun and think that the appropriate course of action is to shoot people.
C'mon, fam. Be smarter than that.

Please tell me how this will all happen.
My heart goes out to the victims, regardless the political leanings. No one deserved that. I'm just glad there were no fatalities.
what the fuck has it really gotten to the point that there are terrorism supporters on facepunch
unreal
I'm not condoning the shooters particular actions by the way, I'm just saying that I'd be lying if I wasn't a little bit happy about the message it sends to the other members of congress.

But if you approve of the results, how are you not condoning the actions? If you could change the course of history, would you have it happen again?
Side note, I am reminded of this quote.
"When you get angry enough, grab your rifle and run outside. If you're the only one there, it's not time yet."

No offense, but that's still not an acceptable way of thinking about people getting shot at.
To clarify, it'd be like saying "I'm not condoning the shooting at a gun show, but I'm happy it sends a message about gun control."
I'm not condoning the shooters particular actions by the way, I'm just saying that I'd be lying if I wasn't a little bit happy about the message it sends to the other members of congress.
The message is one that'll cause an even further division of power
the message ultimately is self defeating and causes far more issues, which is quite literally "join us or we will kill you" and that's a bad message
You are condoning it and are supporting terrorism.
Please tell me how this will all happen.
My guess would be on health insurance changes, which from what I've seen wouldn't be that far-fetched to impact a lot of people in this way.
He's not condoning it. He's happy that these people, that live in an alternate reality, gated off from the rest of us, that want to pass legislation that put people in his situation at death's door because they're too unwilling to change for the betterment of the people PURELY because of money, are being shown they aren't untouchable from the common man like they think they are
At least that's how I read it

For my best friend, the health care changes they've been trying to push through are what would do it. She's a successful young business woman who has picked herself up from a horrific upbringing and became a productive member of society. She's bipolar, and her medication treats it well. It's still not a sure thing but if that bill passes with the portions about pre-existing conditions intact, she will be uninsurable, and her medication is extremely expensive ($1000 per month for just one of them). Between the depression and mania, there's no way she will be able to maintain a stable life, and her mania could cause her to accidently kill herself.
