In America and a lot of Europe we don't even hit natural replacement rates. That puts more strain on the welfare state and hurts the economy, which can be addressed with immigration, but you've just increased the population anyways so gj you didn't actually accomplish much for the environment. In some ways, we have great means to deal with those problems here too with how much green energy has advanced. There's more to the issue than energy like our agriculture, but it's a big key.

We are over-populated for our current level of living. We either increase technology's ability to pull resources out of the earth, we lessen people, or we lessen our standard of living. None of that even takes into consideration the fact that people are starving left and right due to our inefficiency at feeding such a highly populated world.
