I've always said I want the Avatar sequel to open with a human fleet arriving in orbit over Pandora and launching an orbital bombardment campaign against the surface until they've blasted it to hell and back.
yea I mean really why wouldn't they at this point? what is the logic behind them not just bombing the surface of the planet from orbit and then mining it. I can't imagine they don't have that technology and now that there's no humans on the surface (that aren't viewed as traitors) I don't see what would stop them. can't wait for the convoluted excuse for them not doing that so this shit can stretch out for another 4 sequels lol
All these are moot because the movies made it seem that humanity has the ability to reach relativistic speeds with tons of cargo/equipment, right? So, a few relativistic sandbags at the planet basically wins the war as far as I am concerned.
They don't want to destroy the planet. The whole reason they went there is because of the invaluable material it has which allows for easy anti-matter production or something.
The resources from that planet has probably become completely integral to human society.
I'm still in search of someone, anyone, who actually wants this.
Me. The first movie was great and pushed CGI to a new standard, plus it was basically a reimagined Pocahontas in space. If the sequels can be half as entertaining and if the visuals raise the bar like last time then color me excited.
These movies are never coming out.
I thought Quaritch was by far the best part of Avatar. I wouldn't mind seeing more of him, although 'antagonist in every movie' seems a bit much.
These movies are never coming out.
not a chance lol. after years and years of preproduction prep, actual production work on the project officially began a little over a week ago and there's just way too much invested in them at this point to pull out. there's going to be something to show for all this time and money at this point or Fox would be crushed.
"Weta Digital now embarks on the most ambitious — creatively and financially –project in movie history: four sequels to Hollywood’s all-time top grossing film, pictures that will be made in sequence at an estimated collective cost exceeding $1 billion."
yea there's no backing out lol
the first sequel will be a colossal failure and the other movies will never come out
I wish the sequels were just 10 hours of Pandora being bombarded with nuclear weapons. It would make more sense than the original movie.
the first sequel will be a colossal failure and the other movies will never come out
also not possible. they're making them all at once. they'll have to release at least one more afterwards to try and recoup some more cash but depending on how deep into production the others are, all the sequels releasing could be already set in stone.
Fox really went all in on this bet.

If that's their concern, then why did they bomb the shit out of the giant tree where they said the largest deposit of unobtainium was?
Hey I'm happy for Stephen Lang to get paid + exposure so he can be in something I give a shit about
The same fucking villain on all four movies?!? WHY?!?!
You know what
they have the ability to clone aliens, I can totally 100% believe with a straight face that he survived, even if it hit both his lung and his heart
what I can't believe, is they got him to a hospital in time. He's in the middle of bum fuck no where on a planet filled with awful creatures that can rend you in two, didn't he have like, no help at that point? Did someone deus ex machina and save him?
So they have the ability to basically cure death but not get the fucking protagonists legs to work, and hes still stuck to a normal wheelchair in futurespace?
Yea ok.
So they have the ability to basically cure death but not get the fucking protagonists legs to work, and hes still stuck to a normal wheelchair in futurespace?

maybe he had a very poor insurance package
I hope the marines win in this one.
"only in death does duty end", they said, but Colonel Quaritch was having none of it

It's a commentary on America's treatment of veterans
Or they just didn't care, idk
maybe he had a very poor insurance package
He was contracted/in the military and OK'd for interstellar space flight and to be put into a coma for the travel. I feel like throughout all that processing they probably woulda asked "hey since we can clone people, cure death, transport your body into an alien being we cloned, and transport people through space enmasse, do you want us to fix your gimp legs?"
I'm still in search of someone, anyone, who actually wants this.
I wanted it about 5 years ago. Having the first sequel come 11 years after the original film is killing a lot of interest.
If he shifts energy away from the enviroyuppie message and into the action movie part I might enjoy it. The potential is there for him to make a boss tier scifi alien action series out of Avatar, he just needs to drop the 'OMGNATUREDYING' part of the script and fill the void with explosions.
Do you fucking want another Michael Bay explosion fest devoid of all joy and fun? Because that's how we got Michael fucking Bay and the Bayformers sequels.
how would you survive this?

Speaking of Bayformers, the thought process of the Avatar sequels using the same villain since the last one is how exactly how Bay decided to reuse Megatron in every single film after TF1 despite having a treasure trove of baddies that they could have used. While the reasoning behind this is that Bay's too lazy to go trough Hasbro's lineup to use and would rather reuse CGI models in each film, Cameron's just...huh?

Maybe it was a motivational thing. Perhaps they though he would be less likely to run away (no pun intended) and join the smurfs if they were keeping his legs broken until the end of his mission.
fixing his legs was possible but out of reach for a grunt like him, it was going to be his reward for infiltrating the na'vi, it's explained pretty clearly

It is at least amusing [sp]that he gets them back by joining them instead[/sp]

I thought his motivation was avenging his dead twin, and the military needed him becausw his DNA was compatible for the mind transferance crap.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, Avatar was an extremely forgettable movie.
It could be cool if each clone is slightly less human, so over the course of the movies the more he dies the more deranged he becomes.
They can even play it up with the sort Tech vs Nature theme, each time he comes back he's more mechanical. It would create a nice contrast between the two sides
Like Ridley in Metroid Prime, only Ridley manages to make it look badass in the process. :v:
man lang was great in don't breathe, i hope that being linked to all these sequels won't hinder any future oppurtunities for him
Quaritch was arguably the best part of Avatar. I can see ways they can bring him back for sequels and continue being the villain if it's supposed to be an ongoing war. I just don't know what you could possibly do for four goddamn movies. The first was neat, but they'd really have to raise the bar somehow.

Iirc his dead brother never comes up again.
They share DNA, he gets blue alien body and after his service Mr IF IT'S BLUE I TURN IT TO GOO bad guy promises him he'll pay for new legs back home.

I would actually really, really like this, but given the writing of the first movie I don't have faith in them pulling off a character arc/theme quite that cohesive or interesting.
