With the amount of mass misinformation that was being put out, I'm not surprised they released it.
Speaking of misinformation: every time
Why the fuck did they release the name. Holy shit. Every psychologist and expert on why people are doing this will tell you not to release any identification info of the shooter because it inspires others and here we are.
On one hand it should hopefully cut down on misinformation. On the other hand, psychologists and experts have been telling them for years and the news always ignores these requests because it doesn't make good headlines to have a nameless killer. I remember seeing an interview years ago where one expert was labeling out all the things they should not do, and mid-interview they audibly called for a cut of the interview because it was counter-productive to their interests.
terrorism doesn't imply any motive other than a desire to instill fear. it can be for political reasons, religious reasons, or just because you're a huge piece of shit. terrorism and political motives often go hand in hand, but they're far from mutually inclusive.
https://www.google.com/search?q=terrorism+definition&rlz=1C1OKWM_enUS764US764&oq=terrorism+defi&aqs=chrome.0.0j69i57j0l4.2205j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
ter·ror·ism ˈterəˌrizəm/Submit noun the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.
Example: In Sweden terrorism is unlawful use of violence or the threat of violence with the purpose/intent of spreading mass-fear and/or mass-panic.

Literally an attack meant to spread terror.

Jesus, I was in vegas 2 months ago. This is some horrible shit

There are sick people out there whom do bad shit for other reasons.
Absolutely awful, my thoughts are with the families of the victims.
I've had a nap since just before this would have happened, and legit had to do a triple take of the headline, then google it.. I cannot believe those numbers. How?
I saw Good Morning America put up a chart with the top 4 worst mass shootings in US history including this one. Why the fuck are you making it a competition.
They aren't, and you know that's a ridiculous thing to assume. Just because something is in a chart doesn't make it a competition.
Jesus, I clicked on one of the NBC news tweets in this thread by accident, bloody hell the replies are pretty disgusting. '50 dead a couple of hours ago' is not something you should be proud to soapbox your uninformed political ideas off of.
I saw Good Morning America put up a chart with the top 4 worst mass shootings in US history including this one. Why the fuck are you making it a competition.
it's important to know just how deadly this was
Holy shit. I hate waking up to this
I've had a nap since just before this would have happened, and legit had to do a triple take of the headline, then google it.. I cannot believe those numbers. How?
Dude was armed to the teeth and had military training, plus he was firing into a huge concert hall.
Even for those not even close to getting hurt... to imagine what they went through in their heads. Just the act of mentally switching from fun-times to survival mode alone must be horribly traumatizing. I can't even think about how many people will feel unsafe at every concert they ever attend in their lives, let alone crowds.
I saw this in the reddit thread over this.
I'm there now. As in, in the hotel. Checked in not 20 minutes before the shooting started. Was looking out my window when I heard the gunfire and saw the flashing. My first thought was "huh, that's gunfire". I've seen it and heard it many times. Then a pause and my brain was saying "nah, too many rounds, must be construction". Then more gunfire. Pause, more. Pause. More. Pause. More... for a good two minutes. At that point I'm convinced it's a jackhammer. I'm thinking "crap, who's doing work this late. Well, off to get food". Elevators weren't working not two minutes after I heard the gunfire. Buttons didn't even light up. After about five minutes, I tried three stairway doors. Keycard didn't work. Now I'm thinking something is up. Tried the hallway phone and waited on hold for ten minutes. Went back to my room and heard the helicopters. Looked out at a road full of red and blue flashers. Oh. Those were gunshots! Turned on TV... yep. Wait, FROM the Mandalay... About that time I heard a maintenance guy in the hallway telling his wife he's safe and on floor (mine) and that someone on 32 blew out their window and was spraying down into the concert crowd. He saw me and said to get back in my room. Confirmed hotel is in total lockdown. Just a few minutes ago, the cops swept through the floor. You could hear their radios. Must have been three. They stopped at my door, banged on it, announced it was the police, said they heard the TV and asked my name. I gave it, didn't open the door. I heard one of the others say "confirmed" and they banged on the door across the hall, did the same, got their name and moved on. That surprised me. It was a good hour after the gunfire. Even most of the cruisers had moved on by then. Copters are a few streets over. I wonder if the NetApp Insight conference is on for this morning...
First hand reports always make this stuff more jarring, especially when it shows the thought process. [editline]2nd October 2017[/editline]
I've had a nap since just before this would have happened, and legit had to do a triple take of the headline, then google it.. I know some of these are only predictions, but hear me out. 64 years old mentally disturbed individual with military background (?) conducts a mass shooting using illegal or illegally modified (?) weaponry. I know it's repeated every time you guys get your seasonal killing spree, but at this point it is just absurd. It's like a neatly prepared showcase of all the colorful tumors which plague your country. Do you guys think this is the one that will get the ball rolling? The one which will result in actual change? Somehow I doubt it.

It's hard to legislate against single digit crazy people with the balls to do something like this.
Jesus, I was in vegas 2 months ago. This is some horrible shit
Thoughts and prayers with you in this trying time
I'm going to have to admit ignorance on American gun laws here, but how exactly does someone even get a weapon like that? I'm guessing it was either stolen/black market?
Just came into the thread, do we have a reason for the shooting?
Just came into the thread, do we have a reason for the shooting?
Not yet. Just pure speculation, which by the way is currently disallowed in the thread.
I'm going to have to admit ignorance on American gun laws here, but how exactly does someone even get a weapon like that? I'm guessing it was either stolen/black market?
Assuming the report that it's an actual belt fed machine gun is true, you can get them legally but it isn't easy and it's absurdly expensive. They cost as much as mid range cars except you can't finance them like cars. There are many gun ranges and private owners with machine guns in Vegas. He may have stolen it or built it himself from a parts kit. Parts kits include all the unregistered parts of the gun, you build the receiver. I am still skeptical about it being a belt gun but I haven't had a chance to watch the videos yet. e: Actually, due to his record of violence, he couldn't have bought it legally, your record has to be next to spotless to buy machine guns, even non-felony charges can get you denied.
You may discuss your thoughts at this point since the situation is no longer active. Just please have some respect for the deceased and injured.
