with the amount of lead he was spitting, a homemade suppressor would've worn out pretty quickly
i dont know if him being quieter would've really changed the death toll too much, dude already killed a shitload of people
With the amount of lead he was spewing I'm not even sure a commercial silencer wouldve survived long
this is terrible. My friend isn't picking up the phone. I'm constantly checking OP on news updates as well as Twitter.
Just saw the video on liveleak it's worrying that so many people dropped to the ground that were in a large group.
You get out of the mass target area asap if that means hands n knees crawling so be it!
Have fun getting trampled, or running towards the gunfire.
Who, and why?

Extremely unreliable source, not really a source at all, but there's at least a resemblance between the protestor pointed out in this video and Stephen Paddock.
The protest was in August in Reno, Nevada. The footage is blurry, but this man's beard and facial shape seem to look very similar to Paddock.
Hopefully this sparks a debate on mental health
It will spark an ineffectual gun control debate that will slowly quiet down until the next mass shooting.
That's how it went before and I'm almost certain that's how it will go now. Nobody in positions of power is interested in anything above that.
what you hear in most of the videos surfacing is the crack/whip sound of bullets flying above. the actual gunfire report is harder to make out in the reverb/echoing against buildings.
if he used subsonic ammo then if anything there would be less severe injuries as they travel at under half the speed, in 5.56 at one third of regular velocity.
from what it seems like right now the room's smoke detectors went off due to the fumes from the shooting. if he used a suppressed firearm there would be even more smoke and the fire detectors would go off quicker. you tell me, would they find the room earlier or later then?
Subsonic ammo travels slower but it is also heavier, there is a false notion that subsonic ammo is just regular cartridges with a lighter load, which is false. Speed helps penetrate armor but that is obviously not a factor here.
Just hear me out, if he used a semi-auto and Clinton said “what if he used a machine gun” people would have the same reaction like “he could have made one” “what a silly argument” and so on. But he did have a machine gun and arguably it made things much worse.

I'm not strictly anti-gun, but as I'm sure you all have gleaned from my previous post, I think the zeal with which some gun rights advocates plead their case is quite silly.
That said, this tweet is really fucking stupid and actually pisses me off.

Thats an old normal looking white guy who vaugley resembles another old normal looking white guy. Stop letting your internal bias and exposure to propaganda make you ser whatever you want to see

You'd be right if a silencer actually worked like she thinks a silencer works

Seems pretty conclusive, 10 pixels of face is definitely enough for a positive identification.
That was sarcasm btw.
"This man's beard and facial shape seem to look very similar to Paddock."
How so.
Like I don't care if he was at an anti-trump rally or not, since I think every single American citizen should be at one, but this is seriously retarded. It's legit no better than the guy that posted the Puerto Rico anonymous phonecall in that thread, you have 10 pixels to identify a guy with one of the blandest faces on the planet.
Like, I can't even tell if the guy in the video has a mustache. I can see maybe like, two shades of a slightly whiter space for a beard but that's about it. His face looks like any other older guy.
Anyone who tries to twist this into pushing their political agenda should be ashamed of themselves.
Woke up to this news, i didn't even see it last night because I was writing a paper at the time.
Fuck I'm so angry. I'm angry that someone would do this to people who were doing nothing more then trying to enjoy their night out. We got people spreading misinformation and lies, we got others piggybacking off the deaths of people to push their own ideals.
We have an already terrible situation and now it is only going to get worse.
Anyone who tries to twist this into pushing their political agenda should be ashamed of themselves.
They won't be.
clintons own daughter could be shot in the head and she would probably think of a way to try to twist it into an argument for her platform before being sad that her daughter was murdered
It's far more likely she'd first go into a state of grief and then transition to devoting her life to preventing situations like a loved one being shot from occurring again.
i own suppressors so i like to think i know what i am talking about here. 5.56x45 is one of many cartridges which needs speed to work properly - the us army realized this when they went from 20" M16 rifles to 14.5" M4 carbines. downloading 5.56x45 with a heavier (62/69/77gr) bullet does not make it magically more hard hitting if the bullets do not expand the way they are supposed to - which is the case more often than not. speaking from experience, as it is hard to get subsonic hunting home loads to perform within legally required limits.
clinton's "argument" is nonsensical and tasteless. we still don't know if he had an actual machine gun, an illegal machine gun, a pretend-machine gun (crank trigger, binary trigger, bumpfire stock).
i'm not going to discuss this further, it's in bad taste and doesn't belong here. but clinton's "what if" is entirely out of line and irrelevant.
I agree her argument is tasteless, there is no need to start pushing an agenda immediately after a tragedy.
I also don't want to drag this out any more either, but assuming he used 2.23 at all is speculation, assuming he used a gun that is in some way modified or used to fire in rapid succession is not speculation, and the mechanism he used to fire it that way is irrelevant.
He shot almost 600 people in a matter of minutes. Using a device literally meant to disguise where shots are coming from would have undoubtedly bought him time time for what, one more magazine? Two?
Her argument is out of line and that's the focus here, but that doesn't make her comments immediately nonsensical.
The guy had like 10 rifles with him. We don't even know if he only used one gun. Him "changing magazines" could've been him swapping out rifles. I'm sure that info will be released eventually so there's no point in arguing that. I don't think a suppressor would've made a lick of difference here.

I'm no gun expert, but don't guns eventually jam and fail when you fire that many bullets in such rapid succession?

She's using a tragedy to spread misinformation so that she could push her agenda against the NRA

Yo People, I’m really sad for you, Imma let you finish but the NRA is the more evil villain that we should focus on…one of the most evil!
I'm no gun expert, but don't guns eventually jam and fail when you fire that many bullets in such rapid succession?
its a game of chance. it's a possibility but it doesn't always happen.
Takes a lot and you REALLY have to punish the gun hard to get it to jam.
If you're firing full auto, chances of it jamming are way higher however.

So much for showing some compassion...

Look up Iraqveteran8888 on youtube. He has alot of meltdown videos of various guns and calibres. It takes a massive amount of continual fire to start causing failure.
wouldn't a trained person be able to clear a jam fairly quickly anyway
wouldn't a trained person be able to clear a jam fairly quickly anyway
Wouldn't have to worry about it if you have 9 other rifles available to you.
Guy was nuts and fuck Clinton for trying to pretend the NRA is more evil than he ever was.
Oh my god, fuck off already.
I hate Hollywood and video games for giving people unrealistic ideas on what a "silencer" is.
They don't exist.
It's a suppressor because it suppresses the sound, it doesn't silence it.
I mean movies are one thing but you can't exactly blame game devs for balancing weapons for stealth gameplay to be possible
Yep.
There can literally be a mass shooting on a bunch of elementary children, but nothing comes out of it.
Sandy Hook and its aftermath basically taught us that gun control or mental health aren't going to get any better.
Vegas is my hometown. Grew up there. This news really sucks, but I can't say that I'm surprised; the city, and especially mesquite (far off from vegas but a similar atmosphere), has always been plagued by mental health issues. I'm curious to see what the motive for this was; but my shock at the news this morning was immense.
Largest mass shooting in the history of the United States of America, right next to a casino I used to drive by daily. 'City of Sin' has an immense, saddening irony now.
Anyone who tries to twist this into pushing their political agenda should be ashamed of themselves.
I completely agree, but when the time is right, asking ourselves "How can we prevent this shit from happening again" is important.
There's a lot of stuff that can be done to lower the amount of shootings, and anyone pretending the opposite is true are delusionnal. Mental health care reforms on top of the list.

Have you tried contacting the hospitals or the police station? Not sure if a call would go through but those are your better options for getting in contact with them. Chances are either lines are still clogged or he left his phone somewhere in a hurry.
