• Mass Shooting in Las Vegas - 58 Dead at Least 515 Injured, Suspect Killed

515 injuries - there's no way all of them are from gunshots. I would think a sizeable portion are caused by trampling and bashing in the chaos of the huge mass of people escaping in panic.
Suppressors are more effective at preventing hearing damage than they are at disguising a shooters location tbh, at least at relatively close distances it really doesn't do much. It's still really loud, and everyone is still going to panic and run away when people start dying around them. It may have made a difference but not a large one, probably why he didn't bother to bring one in the first place. He clearly knew what he was doing.
this is terrible. My friend isn't picking up the phone. I'm constantly checking OP on news updates as well as Twitter.
facebook safety check might help https://www.facebook.com/safetycheck/the-violent-incident-in-las-vegas-nevada-oct01-2017/about/?source=bookmark
wouldn't a trained person be able to clear a jam fairly quickly anyway
depends on what the jam was. a failure to feed yeah but a failure to eject is always a pain. double feeds are the worst and often require a ram rod to clear. a squib double feed or some freak accident like a bee in the locking lugs will usually require disassembly
Sandy Hook and its aftermath basically taught us that gun control or mental health aren't going to get any better.
Most Republicans are still trying to get rid of as much state healthcare as they can possibly get away with, drafting up more mental healthcare certainly isn't in their plans.
apparently Dan Bilzerian witnessed a girl get shot in the head. I woke up to this news through seeing this snapchat of his. I'm just trying to understand where he was physically when this happened so that I have a better understanding of the exact area this took place other than Mandalay (if that was the case) Most of the news sources I've been checking has this whole thing happening in that area of the strip. I'm just hella confused and frustrated because I can't find consistency no matter where I look, and my friend still hasn't answered my phone calls.
So was there ever more than one gunman, or was the old man acting alone?
mental healthcare legislation isn't really even what we'd need to get done first in that regard the general stigma society has against mentally ill people, seeking treatment for mental illness, and being on medication in general is disgusting
Both are necessary, but you're absolutely right about that being important as well. There's a lot of stigma in Europe as well, but at least from my limited experience interacting with Americans the negative perception of mental illness is really strong there.
So was there ever more than one gunman, or was the old man acting alone?
Just one. The confusion likely came from the ensuing panic, police and SWAT entering various hotels during their search, and echoes on other buildings.
I am so sorry for the hundreds who's lives have been mutilated by this.
what kind of sick fuck does this to people just enjoying music
I am so sorry for the hundreds who's lives have been mutilated by this.
I don't think hundreds can cut it, it's probably up in the thousands. Just being around when something like this happens is traumatic is hell, not the mention the family and friends of the dead and injured who weren't there.
I'm no gun expert, but don't guns eventually jam and fail when you fire that many bullets in such rapid succession?
Not embedding this video because it's not very tasteful given the recent tragedy, but a channel named Iraqveteran8888 has 'gun meltdown' videos where you can see him firing sometimes up to 1000 rounds in a single firearm, magazine after magazine, without failures. Some of those guns have aftermarket (sturdier/higher quality) parts in them, but that's aside from the point. While full-auto fire is more likely to cause a weapon to jam or misfire, you can still dump 100s of rounds without having any failures. The shooter is said to have had 10 guns, so even if one jammed/overheated/failed he could just switch guns.

If the piece of shit really had 10 different guns on him, you can't help but wonder how in the fuck did he manage to haul an entire goddamn weapons cache into his hotel room without getting caught you'd think someone would have noticed and thought 'wait a minute this guy might be planning some horrible shit'
he was there for a few days, it's likely that he didn't haul them all up at once
there might be a degree of pre meditation, given he's been staying for a few days.
Probably one piece at a time? I can definitely foresee them bumping up security at these hotels for a good, long while if not permanently.

[editline]2nd October 2017[/editline] Hell, he could've had a bellhop carry it up to his room and they would never have known. You could probably bump up security patrols to look out for suspicious activity but that's still not gonna stop an inconspicuous 60 something year old man from carrying in a small armory in his suit case.
It sounds kind of dumb, and I have never personally been to Las Vegas (or even the US) but the Mandalay Bay is the hotel/casino I know of in Las Vegas due to the EVO fighting game tournament. It has been held there for a couple of years now, and I imagine it will again next year. It is the only hotel I could name in Vegas for this reason. I hope that a tragedy like this doesn't put people off from going to events like EVO in the future. I think that's one of the worst things that can happen in situations like this, is people become uneasy. It's that shiver you might feel walking by where something like this happens. I get it sometimes when I go through London walking past Parliament or over Westminster Bridge. But it's great that you can see people still living out their day to day lives too. I wanted to go to EVO at some point in the future, I might just have to save up and go next year. It really fucking sucks stuff like this happens. I hope those affected get the help they need beyond just medical care, with strong mental checkups and help offered to those there the lasting damage could be reduced.

Honestly wondering how long it's going to take before America gets desensitized to this. It's only a matter of time if the situation doesn't change drastically.
