IO-Interactive now a independent studio (with full control over its Hitman IP)
So will they be going on their own from now on? No answering to a publisher and do what they want?
That's exactly what independent means.
Unless they really struggle to fund their own projects or need physical distribution they won't be heading to a publisher.
It will be very interesting to see who will they work with next. People will hate me for this, but Ubisoft comes first to mind. They have experience with Splinter Cell in stealth genre, and in many of their games you have open/sandbox gameplay that basically originated in Hitman. Imagine Hitman devs designing AC or SC missions or Hitman devs getting the additional manpower from Ubisoft studios ? Or Ubisoft simply funding next Freedom Fighters with additional support from their studios ? If handled correctly it could be great.

"if handled correctly" you can say that about any company. "If EA handled it correctly if Capcom handled it correctly" and so on. Ubisoft would never handle the Hitman IP correctly.

Name me EA or Capcom games that are in any way similar to Hitman ? I explained why I think Ubisoft would be most interested in this IP and how could both benefit in exchanging talent, it wasn't random. Ubisoft has work force who already worked on similar stuff and they could jump at this type of project right away. EA and Capcom would have to start from scratch.
and giving it to Ubisoft would give us an incredibly half-baked game with many lacking features, poorer visuals and a hefty amount of DLC.

Not to mention rushed deadlines and planned obsolescence.
You guys are living in 2015.
I'd rather see IO partner up with Devolver.
I'd rather see IO partner up with Devolver.
It's not just about publishing, IO needs a serious investor. IO is already in financial trouble and laying off staff and Devolver is just a handful of people mostly doing PR/marketing stuff and helping out with some smaller indie titles. Devolver doesn't have the financial means to keep such a large company afloat and fund their projects.
Holy fuck this is great. I just hope they have enough money to stay afloat now. I don't want to see the Hitman IP going down with the ship.

** Ubisoft Proudly Presents **
A new Hitman Open World!
with a new Hitman Mutliplayer!

[del]And if the rumor I heard that they were hiring people to work on a coop portion was true[/del], they'd also have servers that rely on Uplay and would be totally fucking broken down the line just like every fucking splinter cell game in existence.
Oh it was this thread, neat.

Climb that tower to reveal your next target.
Why Coop of all things? Counter-Op like in Perfect Dark would seem like a far more interesting thing.
Co-op is like the perfect fit for Hitman. Hitman is always about coming up with a plan and executing it perfectly, having hits that require that from 2 people at once would add a whole new level of challenge.

If you mix up the lore a bit it would work lore-wise as well, i mean there is a clone army of 47 so if in some way there was one perfect clone of 47, they would team up and you would have two identical looking people (with different outfits of course) with the same powerful skills.

Tho the clone army did got destroyed, perhaps one survived by black magic?

So as long as it's specifically designed for it. Regularly Hitman missions with an added partner would be a breeze.
It seems the first episode will be free on Steam as of later today:

Well the timing seems perfect so yeah i am guessing its their first move.
Next step, remove always-online and get rid of Elusive targets in the process
Please buy the game. It's so fucking good. I wasn't the biggest Hitman fan because of absolution, but this game is awesome

Honestly I want them to remove always online, just so they don't have to waste money on the server.
Just bought the game after reading this and the comments, I really didn't enjoy Absolution though

ill only be OK with it if you play just another number-series clone (AKA 47 with a different colored tie/goofy grin) or a grown up Victoria. playing as Gooballs McFuckface, CIA Operative would completely ruin the whole point of the series.

nah, just the 48-series clones, [sp]there's heavy implication the Shadow Client is another number-series clone who grew hair, since 47 and the 48s shave themselves and aren't naturally bald. there was also agent 17, who escaped the asylum with the help of Sir Gay Zavorotkunt and proceeded to fail to kill 47 thrice and ended up fibre wired and stripped nude by his brother.[/sp]

i hate absolution but loved 2016, if you enjoyed older hitman games you'll probably enjoy it at least.

I still haven't finished Absolution because 1.) I can't be assed to spend money on a PC copy, 2.) I don't want to play it on my 360, and 3.) It runs like absolute fuckass on my Xbone for some reason.
But I plan on buying HITMAN™ Season 2 when it becomes available for purchase because of how much I enjoyed Season 1's content. I haven't finished this either, but the reason is much different: I went completionist on the first ~4 levels and burned myself out for a while, so I'm waiting until I'm ready to get back into it where I'll love it just as much as I did the first time I played through it all. I can't go play it because I've played it too much, whereas in Absolution I played it until some part where there was a chapel, stopped playing, eventually lost the Steam family sharing I was using to play it, and never felt the need to actually spend real money on the game.
Though I guess HITMAN™ came free with my CPU, twice (because I had to buy two :v:), but the difference is that I actually plan to, at some point, buy more content for it.
Man, Freedom Fighters was my shit back in the day! I wonder if they would decide to pick it back up. Even though it's been 5 years since they talked about it in this tweet.

A reboot would be amazing with current gen if they expanded the basic core ideas they had with squad management and the pros/cons depending on the order you did your missions.
Possible freedom fighters?! FUCK YES!!! I always thought that the main character, who is a plumber with his brother, was a nod to mario.

Why ? You didn't like to watch your targets get killed in a cut-scene ? They should have teamed up with Remedey and make Max Payne 3, because that is what that game tried to be.
