Take this with a grain of salt. DICE has been saying since the BC2 days that it wont charge for DLC and map packs, but it does.
Citation needed.
Citation needed.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 developer DICE has pledged that it will never charge for downloadable map packs. The news comes after Infinity Ward put a pricetag of 1200 Microsoft Points on its Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Map Pack (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=240480). IW's pack went on sale yesterday (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=240965) - with some complications (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=241065). DICE's own VIP 2 map pack (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=241006) became available on the same day - without cost. "We don't ever want to charge for our maps and insisted to EA that this attitude was crucial when it came to keeping our community happy and playing together," DICE senior producer Patrick Bach told Xbox World 360 magazine. Bach commented that DICE had "generous" amounts of DLC planned for Battlefield: Bad Company 2's future. He added: "We're owned by EA but we're still very much DICE."
The article was originally posted on computer and video game but it's long gone. What DICE says doesn't matter at all. DICE might say that they don't want to charge for extra content, but EA owns DICE and controls everything they do, including whether or not extra content is charged for. You're a fool if you think Battlefront II-2 won't have paid content extras.

BTW the article came out in 2010. People were glorifying DICE for releasing the maps for free, despite the fact they were made when the game was in development and were preloaded onto game discs and were unlocked incrementally. [editline]22nd April 2017[/editline]
Well they didn't say no DLC for Battlefront II, just no season pass.
Ok, that means you'll just pay $30 or so for every map pack that comes out for the game, instead of paying $60 for "free" access to the content as it comes out.
Yeah except Titanfall 2 has no paid for DLC, sure it has some extra cosmetics but no paid for DLC Oh, and EA published that and owns Respawn
Titan fall 2 has been out for about 10 minutes now, give it time. [editline]23rd April 2017[/editline] Not to mention BF1, BF hardline, BF4, BF3, battlefront......
Titan fall 2 has been out for about 10 minutes now, give it time.
It has been 7 months, so far so good. And they're still doing it, next FREE DLC expansion comes out in 3 days. https://www.gamespot.com/articles/titanfall-2s-next-free-dlc-expansion-revealed-here/1100-6449425/ AFAIK the only pay for items are cosmetics, nothing gameplay related.

Battlefield 1 came out at pretty much the same time and look at it. Furthermore, Titanfall 2 wasnt a DICE game. Battlefront 2.2 will have paid DLC, just no season pass. Titanfall 2 was probably testing the model of free content-overcharge for arbitrary cosmetic. EA probably wont continue the model since Titanfall 2 sales were less than expected.
Furthermore, Titanfall 2 wasnt a DICE game. Battlefront 2 will have paid DLC, just no season pass.
What does developer have to do with it? EA makes the decision.
What does developer have to do with it? EA makes the decision.
To my knowledge, Respawn doesnt make claims about things they have no control over, or lie to their customers.
To my knowledge, Respawn doesnt make claims about things they have no control over, or lie to their customers.
Well DICE didn't lie to their customers when they made that "we wont charge you" claim, it was entirely related to Bad Company 2, and keeping that particular community alive. BC2: Vietnam was a fully fledged expansion so it doesn't really count. And a vast majority of the new shit for BC2 ended up being modifications of the existing maps for other gamemodes that they didn't actually manage to get done in time for launch (hence the code for the "VIP" pack being in every box). DICE don't get final say in these matters, if EA wanted them to charge for the BF3 DLC (which was largely entirely new content, so it required significant capital comparatively), there's little DICE could do to stop that. EA seem to be preparing for TF|2 to do poorly, what with the fucked up release date that had it fighting two significantly more advertised titles, and the damn near constant sales to try and get people to pick it up (it's a really good game though). So they likely weren't as concerned about the DLC being paid as it wouldn't be as big a money maker. And so far each content drop hasn't been monstrous anyway. A new prime titan, a new map, some new minibuy skins and sometimes a new weapon.

DICE can make claims about content pricing all day long, but they have no control over it. My point is that you shouls take anything DICE says with a grain of salt. Its EAs decision and EA doesnt like to give things away for free
But Titanfall 2 is an example of EA giving things away for free.

If they did claim something that EA had already said no to on a business level, someone in EA PR would be all over this trying to rectify it, and someone would be losing a job over it. I can't say I've seen anybody doing damage control yet. Why shouldn't I trust them again?
But Titanfall 2 is an example of EA giving things away for free.
As I stated earlier, Titanfall 2 is 1 out of the past trillion games.
As I stated earlier, Titanfall 2 is 1 out of the past trillion games.
Yes, but it shows EA is willing to try. [editline]23rd April 2017[/editline]
If they did claim something that EA had already said no to on a business level, someone in EA PR would be all over this trying to rectify it, and someone would be losing a job over it.
Oh, and EA published that and owns Respawn
Last I checked EA doesn't own Respawn.
Yeah except Titanfall 2 has no paid for DLC, sure it has some extra cosmetics but no paid for DLC Oh, and EA published that and owns Respawn
EA does not own Respawn.
What does developer have to do with it? EA makes the decision.
Actually, no they don't. Respawn owns Titanfall, and Respawn is an independent studio. At any point they could switch publishers and take the franchise with them.
I was under the same mistaken impression as HumanAbyss that EA owned Respawn
