A topic about Neo Nazis, white supremacists, or far-right radicals in general at some point gets pushed off topic about a discussion about Communism or Antifa, where people then have to remind the people doing the derailing that as bad as communism was, it's not the same as Nazism, to which the reply, explicitly or implicitly, is "Oh so you are defending communism then?"

Not to drift too far off topic since mods have already said this thread shouldn't be about communism, but the main difference between Antifa and (Neo-)Nazis is that the former are typical hooligans whereas neo-nazis are, well, neo-nazis.

Chances are we will always have violent protesters around, and chances are they'll always try to gain the moral upper ground because in their minds it gives them a reason to go out there and beat the shit out of people and destroy property all around them. I'm sure some of these people are legitimately very convinced that what they're doing is justified and righteous but I'm also sure a lot of them are doing it because they get to swing a bat at things and set various objects on fire. Just to cite the example of France, almost every time an arrest goes even slightly wrong and the suspect was a Gipsy or North African, you'll have an onslaught of people "protesting" by starting a riot which of course will take place in the more commercial districts and leads to many shop windows broken and stores robbed.

You don't even have to look at politics to see the effect, just look at soccer and how frequently people go there under the guise of fans when they're really just waiting for the right time to spark shit with the opponent team's supporters and cause a lot of damage.

So essentially, Antifa aren't special. Nazis on the other hand [I]are[/I] special. They subscribe to a very specific ideology that was employed by very specific people at very specific points in time, one that is fairly difficult to imitate and also is widely considered to be extremely vile on behalf of the fact it started a war which killed millions of people.

Yes, both are bad. Drinking expired milk and cyanide are also both bad and yet one of them is just considered a mistake and the other one is considered lethal poison. I feel the entire "but they're both bad!" shit stems from the logic that disapproval of one party implies automatic support of whoever's opposing them which is for lack of any other term deeply, fundamentally fucking stupid.
