I never said they were all good (I specifically said otherwise), but hating the whole group of people because of the bad ones is wrong.

I hate travellers. Genuinely despise them Literally thieve fucking everything, we had bricks and two chainsaws vanish in literally one night the moment travellers were in town, every single time they appear farms are looted from. Edit: Alright fine yeh they have the usual thing of "very trustworthy friends if they like you" that seems to accompany people like them but sadly imo thats a bloody minority

This doesn't mean that all people of traveller origins should be regarded as such but I can't blame people for having a negative attitude towards traveller communities that pull these stunts.

Utterly fascinating how the problems with these people goes on and on in Europe. Why will nobody just deal with them? Like anywhere stateside they'd either get dropped by some hick or locked up in 2.5 seconds flat.

My parents were camping one night after having a méchoui with friends, and there was a camp a few hundred meters further along the road. While they were sleeping in the van, some fuckers came and torched our car. There was also a time when another group set up camp on our campus' fucking rugby field, no pressure. People harp on about refugees, but compared to gypsies I've never had any trouble with them, and our campus houses about a hundred of them. Shit, the students are the ones who cause the most trouble here.

Always found the squatter/gypsie thing bizarre as hell. I've never really heard of it happening here, and I don't imagine most property owners/police would keep the kids gloves on for them if it did. Like, anyone posting up in someones backyard saying "Oi its mine now bruv" is likely to get their shit kicked in or shot depending on the place.

At least they take your yard and not your whole house/flat, like they do over here (if you leave it unattended for 48h) (making it obligatory for you to keep paying its services) (not being able to kick them for 6 months-1 year)...

My sister is training in primary education and they're making great steps towards better integration between travelling and settled communities. In previous generations there was no attempt made to keep traveller kids in school. They'd be segregated and thrown into one classroom, regardless of age, then naturally, they'd stop going to school. This of course was either deliberate or willfully negligent on the state's part. Of course then those travellers have kids and either fill their heads with negative connotations about education, or don't send them to school at all. Then with no education and the stigma of being a traveller, you're not going to get any legitimate employment, so a large number of them end up in criminal activities. It also makes them more likely to have a jaded view of the settled community that makes this lifestyle necessary. But now my sister teaches in schools with traveller kids who enjoy going to school, who do fantastically academically. She was telling me about how she didn't realise that one of her brightest students was a traveller until the child's mother showed up for parent/teacher meetings, and she could feel the hostility from the mother. It's pretty sad, because travellers are the one group nowadays that you can be in a fairly high social situation, and claim "They just just drag out all the knackers and shoot them", and then in the next sentence criticise Trump's outlooks on Muslims. Even around here Romani are alright and pretty much live decent lives. They're sedentary, they pay their taxes, their kids go to school and they frequent the locals instead of isolating themselves.
