As an American I can finally be glad about our obsession with guns, because these people would get shot so fast Not that that's justified, but people get shot for less on the daily [editline]21st May 2017[/editline] Around my area, schools will go into lockdown for a person walking into the property, so relatively, I have to disagree
They often occupy gun-holders properties, but any aggressive action (including self-defense with a firearm or other weapon) will result in the land occupier to be prosecuted. Trespassing is a civil offence, but it doesn't mean civilians are allowed to take matters in their own hands. There was a case i believe in the 90s of some travellers multiple attempts to steal a farmer's range rover, he eventually caught them in the act and shot them at close range which resulted in the farmer serving 20 years for attempted murder. Even recently an 83 year old was taken to court after shooting a would-be diesel thief in the foot after being robbed several times by the 'victim'. guess which community he belonged to? Mind you in all of these cases the criminal will walk free, while their victim will be punished. Edit: I just looked into the 90s case, the farmer had indeed been robbed multiple times but laid in waiting to shoot and kill the thief (he was 16 when killed and had already been arrested 26 times, and was due to imprisoned for various crimes). The farmer was however holding an illegal firearm in both magazine capacity, didn't hold a firearm license for even a basic 2 magazine shotgun and was pre-meditating to shoot someone hence why he got murder.
Oh trust me guys, worse things happen when travellers settle down somewhere. They've been plaguing territories around my family's country house for 20 years. 2 of my bikes and a mobile phone were stolen by them so far, not even counting thefts from my neighbour's properties.
There's a cul de sac near me where a few traveller families have settled (they own the houses, they're not squatting on anyone's land). Every day they drag all their rubbish out to a field and burn it. Shitloads of it too, I have no idea how they make so much waste.
What's so wrong with wanting to live a nomadic lifestyle?
Because doing it on a large scale almost invariably leads to crime unless you're in Mongolia or something where there's vast expanses of unowned property in all directions. Sure you can travel around, only staying on land you have the legal right to be on, but how are you going to make a living? Far too often the answer is theft, or shoddy work that profits on the fact that they can be in the next town before people come demanding refunds. It gets worse when their children can't go to school because of their nomadic lifestyle, and who often don't have any sort of identification, so you get a population of people who have to resort to criminality to survive because they can't hold traditional jobs.
Aah travellers, the last group of people it's acceptable to hate...
It's acceptable to hate anyone and everyone, no one is entitled to not being hated.

Nomads wouldn't need to steal if there actually were a network of pieces of land throughout the world that they could use without getting chased off it.
To me, this only leads me to dislike capitalism and private property itself more than the nomadic lifestyle.
You are free to give up your private property, and pursue the free nomad life at any time [editline]22nd May 2017[/editline]
Nomads wouldn't need to steal if there actually were a network of pieces of land throughout the world that they could use without getting chased off it.
Use for what? What are you even talking about
You are free to give up your private property, and pursue the free nomad life at any time
I make a distinction between private and personal property. If I owned some massive farmland or a forest that was supposed to be used on an industrial scale, I would give it up. I wouldn't give up my house, but if my property extended out so far that I couldn't possibly use all of it, I wouldn't care if someone set up camp on it.
Use for what? What are you even talking about
I'm talking about land that no-one lives on but someone still owns it. There is plenty of unused land throughout the world, but there is almost no unowned land.

No one would care if they made a camp outside of town, they do it all the time and it's never in the news. They still steal stuff and deal drugs, though so there's that.

It does tend to make local news because they do tend to leave an awful mess which then has to be cleaned up, as it is both a sanitation and environmental hazard. I know my county is experimenting with setting up a designated site that they can use (at the site of an old traveller's fair from way back), and they seem hopeful that it will actually work.
Nomads wouldn't need to steal if there actually were a network of pieces of land throughout the world that they could use without getting chased off it.
I can't imagine that ending well. They're hardly self sufficient as it is and it usually reaches a point where they have to scape off of their host society just to make their lifestyle work.
I fucking hate these cunts, they're nothing but a problem to society, and it's not like it's a generalisation issue either, I can honestly safely say that the majority of gypsies are fucking scum bags, I remember hearing about a friend of my Sister and her Boyfriend, how he got approached by like 5 of them and they beat him up for no apparent reason, like he's a decent guy and wasn't bothering anyone or doing anything to piss anyone off or even get attention from anyone, but these stupid cunts just pull that shit. Honestly I wish they'd just get the fuck off the face of the planet, do everyone a favour. [editline]22nd May 2017[/editline] Like at my previous address we lived across the road from them, and it was like every other week shit would be happening between them and some other family, like their big ass loud as fuck trucks getting fire bombed and the wall to front of their garden getting destroyed, they got rid of the gates too and used them as scrap.

I used to go to school with travellers as there are lots of them in my town: most were alright but you always had the dickheads who just didn't give a shit. I had my face slammed into a tree by one of them when I was 6 but I don't hold a grudge against their entire community.
I know some travelling families and only see them a few times a year when their moving back through the area. I can honestly say that the travellers i have dealings with have been a nice bunch and quite respectful, it also depends on what family that travelling group are apart of, some are better than others.

Mongolians, Sami, Samoyed, etc are all nomadic, but they survive by herding thousands of animals along with them to slaughter for food and resources, which obviously isn't going to work in a developed country.
