I'm getting married in a couple of months. To add on to this, our photographer said that he would be taking around 700 to 800 photos, but he will only select 300 for us to use. Really don't take what few photos here as an example of the skill of the photographer. Like Ignhelper said, they probably did pick the worse photos to build a case on.
Just speaking as a photographer myself, I would be incredibly embarrassed if I sent photos with this quality to a client. Even if there were better photos included in the proofs, these photos should not have made the cut whatsoever. Wedding photography is hard, but if you consider yourself a wedding photographer and produce photos of this quality and passing it off as "just how the camera looks" (a Canon 5DMkIII, apparently), you might just be a bad photographer. There's always room for improvement, nobody starts out a craft with excellent skills, but they definitely overcharged for these frankly unprofessional photos. The bride has a right to be upset, but as someone said earlier, this would have been better solved through a small claims court or something.
Aww man, you need to come to Indian weddings. When my sister got married, the raw picdump I got from the photographer was almost two thousand pictures. :v: Not to mention during the event there were these blindingly bright studio lights installed in key areas for where the most pictures would be taken. I think my retinas were cooked a little bit that day.
Well I'll be shooting my friend's in May, in India. Its 5 DAYS OF WEDDING, FIRST DAY IS A DANCE REHEARSAL. Wish me luck.
On one hand these pictures are pretty bad, on the other hand she's not exactly very photogenic.
Even if she's not photogenic, a event/wedding photographer's job is to make the people in their photos look as good as possible. Take a look at any decent wedding photographer's website and you'll see how important timing and direction of the subjects are. These photos have very little direction, poor focus, and really, really bad timing.
good riddance towards the lady who didn't pay and now has to pay her damages?
that doesn't english
Aren't you supposed to check a photographer's portfolio before the event so you have a rough idea what you'll be getting? It's a wedding, it's not like you get to redo it, so you should check stuff beforehand.

For example, you would be photographed doing the cake cutting before the reception, sometimes even with a fake cake. It's mostly for rich people that can afford to do such things, though. The goal is to have the perfect picture in case "the real deal" isn't as photogenic.

Well at the end of the day, in most cases, you pay for what you get, so if you pay peanuts, well expect peanuts. I've had people telling me 'why should I hire you? I can take a picture as well' By all means lol but don't look for me when its not the result you want.
Jesus Christ the photos are so bad lol, the photographer doesn't understand basic photography. They're not even in focus in a lot of those pictures and the guy clearly has no idea how to photograph people. I'd be furious too but after small claims court I would've dropped it unless that photographer was getting like $10k for that wedding
I mean to be completely honest, maybe his business suffered because his photography skills are totally shit? The other photographer earlier this year that faced similar slander was unjustified but these photographs are legitimately embarrassingly bad.
The thing a lot of people here are missing is that the company wasn't solely a wedding photography business - they were a full service wedding company that could handle several aspects of the process. They rented wedding dresses as well. I'm not sure its always the same photographer but if you go on their old yelp page there's a few photos taken by them that look pretty alright. also, you cant really rule out that maybe a good percent of the images were bad because the bride didnt want to take the photographers advice, so he just dealt with it on site. Do you think an entire restaurant deserves to close down over one bad service?
