• Assassin’s Creed Origins guided tour mode covers up nude statues

Guys this is for the better. I grew up with naked pictures on my Dad's computer (it was actual Art not porn, Birth of Venus type shit) And look at me!!! I am now a Facepunch User and a pervert. In all seriousness this is so fucking dumb, it's just Vaginas, Penises, Testicles and Breasticles.
Assassin’s Creed Origins is, of course, an M-rated game, so sculpted breasts or genitalia would otherwise seem to be of trivial concern to a game with heavy amounts of violence. (And characters appear nude in the main game, too.) But the reason appears to be the T rating this module sought, in order to make it acceptable for educational use.
Yeah right..... Who in their right mind would feel like they are being excluded, by a fucking Prop that isn't important whatsoever. And how is it even Gameplay? It's just a prop. I don't understand how people can justify it with "It's a GAME, it's not supposed to be realistic" but then say the game is going to be used for Educational reasons.
Yet when talking about crucifixions, they have a nude statue of Spartacus with his penis uncovered... ...On that note, they show people crucified for Christ's sake. Pun semi-intended.

There is something irky about Ubi 'changing' history just because it doesn't fit their views and don't want to reflect the actual accurate history in their game because of how "progressive" everyone has become the last few years. Then again, it's just a video game.
Yeah in America we glorify blood and gore in media and we deem anything remotely related to sexuality as taboo. It really wouldn't be wrong to say that we have a sexually repressed violent culture. I love this place, but it's bizarre to say the least.

Plus the fact that the developers themselves are pointing it out to you that this is not a realistic depiction and are telling you where and why they made the changes while at the same time trying to explain how things were in reality. [editline]26th February 2018[/editline] And it says right there in the article that this is the educational part of the game and not the fun sneaky stabby part. I don't get this complaint at all.

It's not about the pot (this is a real pot that was not edited for the purposes of the game). It's about an open air classroom you run across. It literally prompts you and tells you about the historical inaccuracy as soon as you walk near it in the discovery tour.
Still don't get why they specifically went out of their way to change only that part (besides the statues).
Because ever since the first game they prioritize what they like over what's realistic. These games are full of relatively menial changes done to give make the games better in the eyes of the devs. Stuff like inclusive schools is easily one of the smallest changes the game does and is really nothing to write home about. Saying "change" is, in itself, a bit of a misnomer. It differs from historical reality but seeing as they coded the game from the very bottom they probably made the call when they began to write AI packages for those small school scenarios and decided to just draw from a wider pool of models to populate them. I doubt they had to go through some severe dialogue and brainstorming to decide whether girls should be attending school during the programming phase of the game.
When they study art in high school and look at a picture of the statue of David, do they also censor the dick? This is so silly. Negligible though.

It's not accurate to the history at all. But apparently it was referencing something in-game and not the pot itself, so what I say is pretty much irrelevant as seen by this quote.
I wish people would stop using this picture out of context. It's not about the pot (this is a real pot that was not edited for the purposes of the game). Of course unless they are using those open air classrooms in the Educational version.

Take Unity, for instance: Modern French flags everywhere and people singing the Marseillaise in 1791. The devs constantly bend history to cram as many significant sites and events in a given time period, and to adhere to popular beliefs.
I actually didn't know that, my bad I take back my statements. Of course unless they are using those open air classrooms in the Educational version.
They are, but the educational version specifically states it's not accurate as you approach it.
Wait, is this a real thing? US school censoring artistic nudity?
At my school an entire class was written up for looking at genitals on the computers. It was health class, and it was their assignment to do so. The health teacher had to go down to the office and bail everyone out. America is really anal about nudity. [editline]27th February 2018[/editline]
Yeah in America we glorify blood and gore in media and we deem anything remotely related to sexuality as taboo. It really wouldn't be wrong to say that we have a sexually repressed violent culture. I love this place, but it's bizarre to say the least.
To be fair, we used to repress both, but somewhere along the line film makers (and later game developers) began pushing it as far as they could. Every movie in the Friday the 13th series was heavily censored by the MPAA, but they and others kept pushing it anyway. Slowly more gory became more acceptable as it started to become more common from slashers and action and audiences adjusted. Sex didn't get the same treatment, presumably because there's not much point in pushing it unless you're making pornography, and at that point you're not exactly going to the MPAA for ratings.
Reminds me of my UK friend, who was stunned to see uncensored breasts, on the side of the buses in Denmark. Picture of the ad. Where a different ad from the same company (with clothes), got pulled from Sweden in an "outcry". It does really show the difference between cultures.
This is a game series where George Washington became a tyrant. I wouldn't take anything in it as historically accurate.
This is a game series where George Washington became a tyrant. I wouldn't take anything in it as historically accurate.
That was marketed as a "What if" style DLC. It's not the same as the parts that are saying they're "mostly" historically accurate.
This is a game series where George Washington became a tyrant. I wouldn't take anything in it as historically accurate.
A better example would be 'where you punch the pope' since one is a vision and the other "actually" occurs.
For those who didn't bother to read the other posts, the breasts are not censored in the actual game, they're only censored in the educational 'tour mode'
whole situation reminds me of that Simpsons episode but yea, it sucks that they have to go for people who will get triggered by artistic representation in classical creation
This is a good video for those "ban video game violence" kinds of people.
Still don't get why they specifically went out of their way to change only that part (besides the statues).
I don't get why you'd be mad about it. This just draws even more attention to the actual conditions of the time, whereas before you'd just look at the class and possibly not even realize that all of the students were male otherwise.
Which is the one place they should not be censored because that's altering historical works. This is really stupid. Even back when I was in grade 4 we looked at historic art that had nudity.
This way, there's 0 chance that some bo hick county will bounce the idea of something that might get kids interested just because it has some titty in it. Ideally this would never happen, but it does. It should probably be an option, though.
and to adhere to popular beliefs.
Y'know that's probably the worst thing AC does, historically. I'm totally down with inaccuracies for the sake of fun gameplay, they're making video-games after all, that's their job. But with shit that has nothing to do with the game, why perpetuate myths instead of using their popularity to try and right some common misconceptions?
