Whats amazing but also sad is that there are probably many more of these that were just discarded or shoved in a bin somewhere and forgotten because it just looks like a lump of nothing.
Depending on who's running the dig, they'll have interns painstakingly sifting through everything. I'm taking an elective nautical archaeology class and the Prof would tell stories of some sites he worked at. They'd have interns looking at every little rock, picking up every little bead they could find. One of the things they found on a Bronze age wreak was a gold Egyptian Scarab belonging to Nefertiti, that's no bigger than a coin. But at the same time, extremely valuable. (This was all while scuba diving, mind you.) On a different wreak, a different team of archeologists found (and counted) amphoras full of 10,000 almonds. Not to mention everything is labeled and mapped before being upturned and inspected. Archeologists don't leave anything behind. Though in some cases like this bead and the famous antikythera, the real hidden value may not be immediately obvious. [editline]8th November 2017[/editline] Much of the real tragedy is how much we lost before modern archeological practice was developed, and most artifacts were hunted by treasure hunters and people who use destructive methods and didn't map or record findings. We've probably lost so much just because people doing the looking weren't careful. The same professor would tell us how bad things were just as recently as the 1900's, where shipwreaks were destroyed in the process.
They used to write messages on slingshot bullets as well. Romans and Greeks especially.
Here’s a short sample of the real things archaeologists have found written on ancient lead bullets: “Ouch!” “Catch!” “This is an unpleasant gift.” “For Pompey’s Backside!” “Take this!” “Be lodged well!” “Attack Octavian’s arsehole!” “Fruit for Dessert!” “This is a Hard Nut to Crack!” “Here’s a sugar plum for you!”

These all can fit as Fire Emblem critical hit lines
They used to write messages on slingshot bullets as well. Romans and Greeks especially.
My favorite about this is the call out to Octavian. Makes it pretty easy to guess what period it's from, assuming it's meant to be an insult to the Roman Emperor. Reminds me a lot of those shells insulting Hitler posted above.
The Pompeii graffiti/shitpost wall immediately comes to mind.

They used to write messages on slingshot bullets as well. Romans and Greeks especially.
Do you think we were always a bunch of shitposters?
Shit like this and Tepe, Stonehenge, and Petra prove people back then were willing to dump the time, dedication and skill into making stuff that lasts until today.
To be fair, its not like they had anything else to do in that day, so fuck it, why not build something that takes a lifetime, lasts beyond many civilizations
There's an 18+ only room in the museum of Naples that's full of all the porn they painted on the wall of the brothel in Pompeii.
Fuck yeah I love shit like this.
Oh my god, I'm in awe... Absolutely stunning! :jawdrop:
The Chad Rock vs The Virgin Cannonball?
I think its more like "The Virgin Rock" vs "The Chad Bullet" [editline]8th November 2017[/editline] Sling bullet, not gun bullet

Does anyone have the message someone wrote on the Pompeii wall about being best friends with someone until the end of time? I remember it being very wholesome.
