I mean GG lost in all honesty. We lost that fight, we got a few websites to start disclosing shit, as well as youtubers but that was likely an eventuality anyways due to legal reasons.
GG is currently a mocked event/group in our recent history. Any time I see it brought up online outside of FP, it's remembered as a mysoginistic hate campaign that achieved nothing and was more descriptive of gamers as a whole than not.
I don't really care about the optics of winning or losing because while I tended to agree with the gg side moreso on the benefit of speaking my cultural language and not being quite as pants on head histrionic as the competition, I honestly never identified massively with it in a personal way and was more of a spectator anyways. I consider the apparent reduction in bat shit SJW crap since then to be a victory, whether gg had anything to do with it or not. Haven't really looked into it in ages though considering things more politically important than squealing gender studies majors have been happening over the course of the past two years.
I was kinda confused at the timing of this before i saw

Otherwise it'd be kind of strange. We already had all the big news sites say gamers are dead and wtv back in gamergate while they were tossing out broad accusations of sexism and misogony, it wouldnt have made sense to do this now rather than then* but i didnt see the reasoning. Guess this at least makes *some sense*

Yeah that was kinda' my line of questioning too, I was under the impression that this had simmered down a lot so it seemed odd to bring it up out of the blue.
Couldn't stop laughing once I saw Kern was what started this. Guy's a complete fucking nut. It's been more than half a year since his kickstarter for a tech demo for his new game got overfunded by something like 800% and they haven't even reached any of their goals yet.
Violence didn't exist before video games
But what if Chess is the reason of so many wars and infighting during medieval times?!

I mean honestly, I'd say that's because the group became exactly what you said. A hate campaign. Please don't get me wrong, it absolutely wasn't at the time, it was a well intentioned thing representing something a lot of us had cared about for a long time. But that's sort of the problem. A lot of us saw what it was and had been talking about these issues for a while and didn't need an increasingly tribal and "trendy" seeming group to broadcast the opinions we already held.
The writing was kind of on the wall, and when the more rational people either didn't take part in it and just kept doing what they did separately, or left because they didn't like the negative representation it came along with, the group was left with the negative image that was previously a minority growing and concentrating and becoming basically the entire thing.
Aren't gamers just... people who play video games? Why is there such a bizarre narrative against that by people who most likely play video games on a regular basis themselves? It just looks like self-hate to me.
no video games turn you into a violent woman-hating psychopath don't you know?
Wtf is this, I feel like an old man lost in a shopping mall nowadays, someone let me out of here

twitter
never go on there it is a bad place for bad people
50 years ago rock and roll was the Devil incarnate, Satanic messages if you played Judas Priest backwards and other fucking bullshit
Nowadays it's videogames
What hasn't changed? A group of people trying to kill what they don't understand and dislike

There were definitely people who took the harassment way out of hand, even before Milo "profressional shithead" Yiannopoulos got on the scene.

Of course, but (at least) in the beginning, GG was comprised mostly of people who were tired of the narrative being pushed by games journalists at large calling them shitty people.
EDIT: It didn't really take long for wackos from Breitbart to help GG considering they stood to gain everything from it.
Actually, GG was always a movement full of misappropriation. There are a number of videos you can watch which break it down surprisingly well. The key thing of it is not that everyone in GG was necessarily a bad person with bad ideas, but pretty much everyone who was arguing for journalistic integrity was being used by the core member group in GG to pad their numbers and spread their hate towards women. It's a very well set-up campaign by people who do not represent your interests, yet pretend to do so to get you along.
The core of GG was always about harassing women, without any real valid point. Most of the things GG had critique on turned out to be false and merely ways to further harass people.
Here's a series of videos which explain GG and why it happened (and why it will happen again and again) pretty well. Part 4 actually delves into GG itself, but the series as a whole is important for pretext. Try to keep an open mind:

gamers and politics keep constantly mixing together, for some reason all these reddit gamers get the idea they know something about anything and the the result makes me want to jump off a fucking bridge
you don't need to look much further than gamergate to see how embarrassing this gets

So not only is gamergate an indefinable hateful misogynistic mob with no leaders and power structure, it's ALSO a concerted pyramid scheme-type deal where the few in power at the top are manipulating those below them for an ulterior motive, while the rabble by and large only wants good?

It's a movement shaped by misdirection, and a very vocal minor core in the movement manipulates the rest to paint new targets, by attaching a false motive about games journalism.
So yeah, even though you make it sound like a conspiracy theory, that's exactly what it is. It's a conspiracy by /pol/-like people to harass women and feminists online while disguising themselves as a movement for video game journalism ethics.
Watch the videos to find out more.
"Gamers are awful people" -Same people that are specifically in gaming journalism presumably because they play games or have an interest in them, and hence, are gamers, and make articles constantly about how women should be accepted in the same gaming culture they call shitty
Most game journalists do not play games, in fact, which is why livestreaming is eroding "journalism" based marketing and politics at a rather brisk pace.

Except it's not. Try and watch the videos, where this is all analyzed. Before I watched these videos, I shared your view point. Unfortunately, this is the truth.
This kind of stuff happens every time. How do you think Trump became president? He manipulated people and pretended to care about their views to get votes. If people believe the likes of 4chan have enough power to influence world events, why is it so outrageous that such people can also influence online movements such as GG?
Except it's not. Try and watch the videos, where this is all analyzed. Before I watched these videos, I shared your view point. Unfortunately, this is the truth.
You're acting like I'm unfamiliar with the matter, but that literally could not be further from the truth.

No, no it is not.
If I have to watch your ridiculous videos, then you need to go reread ALL three #GG threads from beginning to end.

Don't need to because I already know this guy is a biased idiot whose full of shit from his Phil Fish video. Gamergate was doomed because the gaming journalists eventually shut up and quickly starved out everyone who was watching them by November 2014, leaving a bunch of paranoid anti-SJWs bitching about literal whos and the mainstream media to absorb what was left into their own narrative. Really you just can't expect to keep something like that going for as long as people wanted it to.
I don't give a damn about anti-GGers but anyone who thinks they can figure out GG's downfall by focusing on the anti-SJW elements has no idea what they're talking about.

No, I simply know more than they do on the subject.

Unless you have watched the videos there is no way you can say that for certain.

You're making some big assumptions about what I have or haven't done and do or do not know.
You're making some big assumptions about what I have or haven't done and do or do not know.
Why does that even matter? You've just spent three posts saying how much you know about GG and how much others don't without actually contributing any meaningful opinion or information. Are you going to try and refute the information I've posted or are you going to toot your horn some more?

What information is there to refute? You stated a claim that it's a conspiracy by /pol/-like people and then just said to watch the videos. You didn't actually give any information yourself.
These videos got posted here back when they came out and practically everyone here pissed on them and disregarded them as nonsense. I dont think they are quite the smoking gun you think them to be.

Just because I didn't outline the information in a huge forum post, doesn't mean the videos don't count as information. You can watch them, and it will give you the information I intend to give you.

I'd be very interested to know why people regard these videos as nonsense, but nobody will tell me anything except "these videos are nonsense because I know better".
