MS Paint (the real one) to be removed in Windows 10 Fall Update
my god stop panicking, MSPaint will have the same scenario as Windows Photo Viewer, it's going to be a legacy program hidden in the OS, just few regedit tweaks and it's back.
Windows photo viewer took me a fucking hour to try to switch back to because every single technique I tried per internet tutorials didn't work. You have to edit your motherfucking registry just to get it to work again.
Fuck that shit.

The old photo viewer isn't even that good to begin with
I disagree completely. There is a time and place for paint. When i want to make a quick diagram for somebody im not going to load up GIMP of visio just to draw a couple boxes with some text. Paint 3D fails at the '5 second mockup' concept just due to the added depth of menus you need to navigate to just draw a couple squares and throw some text on them. Minus load time, which i normally have GIMP open all the time anyway, theres no reason for me to use paint 3d over gimp, as there is zero need for me to be drawing things in 3d.
Although now that i think about it, my awkward speedrunning diagrams would look even more rediculous in 3D.

Yeah but the new one doesn't have a "view at real resolution" option for some stupid reason.
I think everybody will agree, without the sentimental value, Paint has no point in being included
Make it free and open source and give it to the people.

So... GIMP

I personally hate all of the default image viewer, now I instead use jpegview which actually opens more than just jpeg

Double click does the 100% res thing you want

That's fucking stupid. What was so hard about just making a button for it?
Looks like screen savers are being entirely removed as well.
Well fuck updating my computer then. I don't want to fire up a virtual machine just to get a screensaver going because Microsoft are still cunts.
[editline]ms paint me a story[/editline]
Okay apparently I haven't even had a screensaver feature for the longest time; my monitor's just been going black.
I have said it before, and I will say it again. Microsoft needs to stop fixing shit that is not broken.
I don't mind screensavers being removed. IIRC, screensaver files can execute malicious code.
As for the rest, there are better alternatives.

If screensaver files can execute malicious code then why not make a new type of screensaver file? Plenty of people including myself still enjoy screensavers and they still serve a purpose, Macs come with a screensaver enabled by default and it doesn't look like Apple have any plans to remove it. Feels like Microsoft getting rid of something just because they can't be bothered to fix it tbh
Photoshop's great, but it takes like 60 seconds to open for me
That's… a bit excessive. You might wanna Google that or investigate what files it's accessing, do you have a shit load of plugins or something? Sounds like either that or your install is a bit broken.

I mean you can create a ton of shit in paint
You forgot the best one man
But I use paint all the time when I don't feel like using photoshop...
Check out it's replacement Paint 3D, It can even be launched from Paint atm.

Of course you can, but on a practical level its like taking a ship to cross the Atlantic while you are in a rush. Handicapping.
So... GIMP
Even when I'm doing in-depth image editing I don't want to use GIMP. I hate how the side bars work and it's got a Photoshop tier load time. I never used Paint for anything serious but Paint.NET at least is still preferable to going as far as GIMP.
Photoshop's great, but it takes like 60 seconds to open for me, and hogs a shitload of resources. When I want to quickly sketch something out like a diagram, I launch paint.
Does PS also occasionally lag your cursor? PS is the worst running program I have to use daily.
That's fucking stupid. What was so hard about just making a button for it?
What's so hard about just double clicking the image? It's like having zoom buttons in gallery apps on phones, totally unnecessary.
I mean, because I hated the modern Paint so much, last year I had the old XP Paint program just sitting on my Windows 7 taskbar. No registry bullshit or anything. Haven't bothered with that sort of stuff since I got my new PC in September though.
Aw what, can they just have the opt-out option for screensavers? They help reflect the personality of the user and there's some really neat ones out there.
.scr files are just renamed .exe files (prob. with an additional entry point for the options) as far as I can tell, so it shouldn't really be that difficult to supply the manager as third-party software.
[editline]edit[/editline]
It's surprisingly trivial. I probably don't have time for this, but I wouldn't mind working together with someone on this.
MS Paint for Windows XP was perfect for pixel art. i had so much fun making sprite edits and custom characters in Little Fighters 2 and Counter-Strike 2D, not to forget the countless abandoned sprite comics and incomplete game maker games lol
Paint isn't being removed, it's only being deprecated. It will still be usable in the Fall Creator's Update.
I'm personally more upset about the fact that screensavers are being phased out. I want my After Dark, god damnit
I still use the old 3d maze screensaver from time to time. :v:

Sure, so can unsigned custom themes, but just as with themes, someone will have a UXThemePatcher that restores screensaver abilities to Windows. There are also 3rd party screensavers that run in the background, so I don't think we'll see a total loss.

~minimalism~
NO!!!!!! I'VE USED THIS AS MY MAIN DRAWING PROGRAM FOR PIXEL ART. IT'S SO NICE!!!!!
I'm sure there will be somewhere to reinstall it, at least I hope so : ( as weird as it is, this is just one of those programs that really helped me learn to draw with a mouse.

Surely Paint 3D can still do pixel art?
they should just bring back this version of paint
Good riddance.
If they had half a brain they'd have paint.net installed from the get-go.
It's an old feature for sure, and I remember it even in windows 98, but does ANYONE honestly use it in any serious manner? I've always preferred paint.net.
Bit lame they're removing features though.
but paint loads WAY quicker and sometimes i just want to paste an image in and crop it and then save it and paint lets me do that in about five seconds
I don't mind screensavers being removed. IIRC, screensaver files can execute malicious code.
so can literally anything else though?
