Never forget.
Also, been involved in shady/criminal matters? A complete narcissist? Sounds like he meets all the prerequisites of being a modern politician :v:

cubeman's saga is worse than that article let's on.
Just found out that Joaquin oliver was one of the victims.
He's the son of one of the people I used to work with. I couldn't believe it when FB showed his status to me today.
Edit: I never met him, but any time I was in the office his dad was always talking about what he was up to. We always knew how proud he was of him. Can't even imagine what this is like for them.
I hope the next time we have an attack like this and the perpetrator just so happens to be muslim, our president will immediately blame it on mental health and not use it as a pretext to ban people from the country.
Then don't bitch because people won't "compromise" and instead fight you tooth and nail. You can't keep taking from people without them expecting something in return.
"Sure, fewer children would die in pointless mass murder incidents, but what's in it for me?"
[editline]20th February 2018[/editline]
Leaving the original post here because I'm not going to hide my original, admittedly hostile response, but I want to explain it.
I have had to deal with so many people the last few days impressing on me how the pro-status-quo-gun argument is literally unassailable. That there is literally no compromise or argument to be made. That this shooting was literally the product of our great wonderful liberty of gun ownership bequeathed by the constitution and GOD and AMERICA and OUR FOREFATHERS which means that in no way can we even suggest that things could be better without being against everything this country stands for.
I don't want guns banned. I want a real solution that fixes the problems that the US is facing. I want there to be compromise and alternative solutions. I want everyone for and against guns to push for them. We can work this out in a way that works for everyone. What Sega said resonated with me and it upset me that you rebuked her so quickly, especially in a way that appeared to me to be dismissive of the message behind her post.
[editline]20th February 2018[/editline]
Please yes. I want to have a real solution. I've met so many people in my life who honestly and truly see things like school shootings as just some natural consequence of the second amendment and that any argument to the contrary is some sort of attack on that. Even suggesting we could do better is an assualt on them and their rights and the constitution and Christianity and freedom and America. I get so frustrated when people are unwilling to even discuss what could change without costing them their freedom.
I'm not a gun owner, but I understand why people want to own guns. I understand that a gun, when owned and handled properly, does not pose an immediate threat to me as an ordinary citizen. The couple of times that I've been intimidated by a gun, it's been because it's been held by some dumb asshole. I don't want to be the enemy of the responsible gun owner, but some people act like because I don't want dumb assholes having guns I don't want anyone having guns, you know? It really bothers me when people boil it down to absolutes. Either you're in support of everyone having guns all the time or noone having guns ever. I'm so tired of that.
[editline]20th February 2018[/editline]
For those of you who rated or will rate my post dumb after I posted my explanation, I'd like to know why it is you seemingly oppose rational discussion of topics surrounding gun violence that don't involve restricting gun rights?

Sega proposed seeking alternative solutions and not outright banning guns (and I agree with her) and Silence said she should expect to be fought because there wasn't anything in it for gun owners.
Except for, you know, the fact that we might actually solve the problem in a way that works for everyone. That could be a plus. But some people are so defensive and cagey about their guns they can't even consider that.
I mean, seriously, you want to talk about problems with the gun debate in the US? Take a looooong look in the mirror. Sega proposed compromise. Silence completely rebuked her. I pointed that out, you lashed out at me. Sega and I are literally on your side but you're so defensive you can't even realize that. That's why shit is going to go wrong and guns are going to get banned or something dumb like that, because there's no reasoning with people like you and Silence who won't meet in the middle and discuss. You are the problem. Adjust yourself.
[editline]19th February 2018[/editline]
And maybe stop coming off like "Hey you know we could do literally anything to help prevent school shootings but I'd rather not face minor inconveniences when buying another gun".
Jesus fucking christ.
[editline]19th February 2018[/editline]
There are solutions that aren't just "ban guns". We need to be uniting and pushing those discussions into the political forefront. There are solutions that work for everyone. It doesn't have to be an either-or for fucks sake.

Uhhh, fairly certain I called out two people specifically as being the kind of person who are part of the problem?
Your post was really well-phrased and I agreed with it but if you're going to intentionally lump yourself in with people who are just in it for themselves then get defensive and persecuted about it then we're not going to make any progress regardless.

just because something has been "shot down" by gun advocates in this thread or in history has no bearing on anything. "we said no so that's that"

Then you're never going to solve the damn problem.
Enough of this stupid argument, it will never get anywhere, and we passed the point of no return with firearms being a permanent aspect of this country long before anyone discussing it here was even born, start trying to find more practical, REALISTIC solutions, because this shit is not p r o d u c t i v e.

Rusty doesn't care, and if you engage him for long enough he'll start insulting you and get himself banned like he has multiple times in the past. Don't waste your energy on him.

No problem. I'm sorry for getting confrontational with you. For what it's worth, I really liked your post. I really think there needs to be more pressure from both sides to be able to resolve this issue nationwide.
I just get frustrated with people who refuse to look at alternatives. It really seems like all the issues that the current gun legislation causes is preferable to them than facing inconvenience in gun purchasing or ownership.
I don't want to ban guns. I don't want a law that just serves to assauge people's emotional response to shootings. I want real change. I want our society to be better from a place that makes logical sense. But I get so annoyed with the people around me. It seems to me that so few people are even willing to talk about positive change because they get so defensive about the status quo. I lose my patience with them because I've tried so hard to explain things from my point of view, that we could really have a better world if we could just come to the table and debate this honestly and work out a real solution. I see people like Sega who have a grip on thigns make a real plea to have this debate and seeing it get whole-heartedly rejected upsets me.

There are definitely too many people refusing to give any ground, but it's not hard to see why otherwise reasonable people don't want to make any concessions. Things are too hot and too political on both sides. One side has to protect guns and the other side has to ban guns and there's no middle ground and neither side remembers why the whole thing started but by god they're gonna see it through. I think most gun owners aren't principally opposed to smart regulations but "give an inch and they'll take a mile" is unfortunately all too true in this political climate.
I can only hope that a growing moderate tone among gun owners will calm things down & all this shit doesn't completely carry over to the next generation of politicians so that before too long we'll be able to have this conversation on a national level and not just in isolated pockets on the web.

I just wish that everyone would just realize arguing whether or not you think people should be allowed to own firearms for the umpteenth time isnt going to get anywhere and actually focus on something that has even a marginal chance of actually ever happening in this reality.
Its so exhausting seeing the same names every few months saying the same thing word for word thinking it'll actually do anything different this time. Its an exercise in futility and does nothing to help, but for whatever reason any and all logic or reasoning goes out the window.

here is what happens after every shooting:
both sides argue, nothing happens, shootings become more frequent
gun lobbyists are not capable of making any sort of compromise.
one side is just going to have to lose at some point. it's the side with the guns. neither are ever going to budge, and the lack of gun control is currently NOT working. gun lobbyists and activists will just need to be ignored because allowing their hobby is just allowing more people to die and it's not a price worth paying. your private john wick fantasy or whatever is not worth the ongoing cost of human life. tell me again how this constant back and forth is productive? where is this getting anybody?
it just causes the issue to stay in limbo, because for as long as both sides keep trying and failing to find compromise, you can still keep buying guns. the nra would be happy to have us all debate and 'try to work it out' until the cows come home. the government needs to take action. unfortunately i don't think your current one will.

Did you actually read any arguments put forth in this thread?
[editline]19th February 2018[/editline]
And why, why, WHY do people always resort to this childish shit flinging?
Do you think anyone wants to listen to your smug condescending snide little "John Wick" remarks? Who do you think you're convincing with that? Why would anyone EVER bother listening to a single word that you say when you talk to them like they're some kind of toddler who made a poo poo?
You want to get rid of guns because you believe it'll solve the problem and your argument essentially boils down to "hey mr. gun fucker why do you like watching kids die". In what reality do you think acting like THAT is actually going to make people change their minds? How old are you?

a) Shootings are becoming less frequent
b) "Gun lobbyists" have made more compromise than any group in the history of US politics
c) You and people like you are the reason for the constant back and forth and the reason people like me have put the brakes on further gun regulations.
But by all means keep it up. For as long as you and yours keep making noise and twisting reality to match your delusions, innocent people will keep dying.
Every little smug comment you make further convinces me it's not about the guns or the people dying every day or the children or anything but your hate boner for conservatives and anything you associate with them and your constant groveling to make any little tiny zinger and gotcha to anyone you perceive as being more right than you.

a) Yes
b) Thanks for the input (keep it to yourself next time)
c) People who keep taking any opportunity to institute bullshit bans are the reason nobody's willing to accept trojan horse "compromises" designed to make grabs easier ala SAFE act - nothing legitimately intended as an honest compromise has been offered in at least 20 years but probably longer than that
