Marvel Entertainment on the other hand i dunno, they're on fire. Not like the expression, i mean more like a dumpster. But in terms of pop culture? Spider-Man will always be #3 next to Superman and Batman.
Marvel Studios=/=Marvel Entertainment. One makes only movies, the other makes mistakes.
Problem is, the MCU is bedrocked by comics content re-adapted. The real test will come when they have to start coming up with their own shit to keep the money machine oiled. To put this into perspective currently the MCU has two movies that will stand the test of time as simply movies, not just branded commercial vehicles, and both of those are Captain America movies. The rest is basically already starting to date venue fodder, and GoG. Iron Man has had one pretty ok start and two bland as ass sequels and they somehow managed to make Extremis as adapted by Shane Black of all people, boring. Thor has had one good movie that is actually a hulk storyline for the most part and two absolutely forgettable wastes of acting talent. Ant Man was pretty ok but hardly watched compared to the rest and after Infinity War most of Marvels "big thing" tentpole franchise crosses require mutants, which they don't have, and as we've seen you can't shoehorn Inhumans in to take their place. Disney isn't brave enough to make stuff like Logan, and frankly the only reason Fox made it is because Deadpool and everyone involved in Logan basically worked for scale. Enjoy it while it lasts, it's not going to last more than four or five years more before they run out of juice and fatigue also sets in, unless some miracle of talent steps in to just knock shit out of the park over and over, which is astronomically unlikely to happen.
I just don't know how many more movies they can make before super heroes become too overplayed for popular culture

They're not gonna have trouble any time soon. Though you have a point about them being in a bit of a comfort zone. [editline]7th November 2017[/editline]
I just don't know how many more movies they can make before super heroes become too overplayed for popular culture
The answer is to just make them more varied. Superheroes are such a nebulous, vague concept to begin with, you can do anything with them. Ghost Rider and Punisher are technically superheroes, for example.
I just don't know how many more movies they can make before super heroes become too overplayed for popular culture
I like what Fox is currently doing. They took superheroes and put them in different genres: Logan was a western, Deadpool was a slapstick comedy, and the upcoming New Mutants is a horror film. Comic books are varied not just by their character, but also by their genre. Making them all cookie cutter action/adventure films after 10 years, the public begins to weary.
New era of post-superhero comics?
Hey, Watchmen's back on the shelves!
It appears to be an exclusive contract which would mean that Marvel Comics just lost one of their best selling writers. [Editline]Excelsior[/editline] https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/11/07/brian-bendis-switches-sides-signs-dc-exclusive/
Thank god, maybe Marvel can start putting out decent shit again without bendis influence ruining every event. I have no idea why anyone would hire this man. His comics are complete garbage.
