Just start cremating everyone, jeez. What is with mankind's need to bury dead people in useless boxes. It's like some strange species-wide obsession.
Personally I'd rather be put in the ground instead of thrown into the fire and kept in a small urn in someone's house.
All I care is that my organs are donated if I die young enough for them to be useful, other than that I don't care what happens.
build a reinforced pod with a window and put my naked corpse in there bottom against the glass and then eject it into space so the cadaver-that-was-me and its radiation-bleached buttcheeks will drift across the cosmos mooning the universe forever and costs be damned
I gotta say I agree with Frank Reynolds on this one
When I die, bury me face-down so the world can kiss my ass.
when i die i wanna be buried in a wooden box with a tree planted on above me so i can rot away and become part of the tree getting buried in a sealed container is pretty lame
when i die i wanna be buried in a wooden box with a tree planted on above me so i can rot away and become part of the tree getting buried in a sealed container is pretty lame
let's do that for everyone so that we get forests instead of graveyards
when i die i wanna be buried in a wooden box with a tree planted on above me so i can rot away and become part of the tree getting buried in a sealed container is pretty lame

Bios Urn is a biodegradable urn designed to convert you into a tree after you die. The urn is made using 100% biodegradable materials, coconut shell, compacted peat, and cellulose. It has two parts – a top capsule with the proper medium to allow a perfect germination of the seed, and a bottom cone where you can place the ashes. The design of Bios Urn allows the seed to germinate separated from the ashes. Once the urn starts the decomposing process the tree roots are already strong enough to contact the ashes and grow through the Bios Urn. Bios Urn is ready to be used with any seed from a tree, shrub or plant. The urn doesn’t have expiration date, so you can buy it when you want and keep it saved for a long time. And you can also use it with old ashes, just transfer them into the Bios Urn and plant it where you want. We think death is one of the most important moments in human life, so we want to convert it into a transformation and a return to life through nature. Bios Urn aims to reintroduce man into the natural cycle of life. And remember: there’s life, after life :)
You can even pick your own seed! https://urnabios.com Not exactly feeding the tree with your body but still pretty neat.
Someone introduced me to the idea that you can let your remains be used to build reefs. I want to swim with the fishies forever. Seriously, for those of you who are squeamish about sky burials, the Zorastrians, or Parsis, here in India follow a similar practise, where they leave their bodies to be consumed by vultures on a platform. The buildings themselves are known as Towers of Silence.
Just start cremating everyone, jeez. What is with mankind's need to bury dead people in useless boxes. It's like some strange species-wide obsession.
But if I get cremated I can't have a spooky badass gravestone.
itd be cool if that bio urn thing let you bury your body and plant a tree in the back of your skull
But if I get cremated I can't have a spooky badass gravestone.
people have buried ashes in graves before you know so there's nothing on that front stopping it
That situation reminds me of the time it was illegal for people to die in my town because there wasn't any cemetery space left.
I've carried all my grandparents' to their graves in their caskets. My uncle was the first one to be cremated and oh boy I want to be cremated just to save the backs of the poor people who would have to carry my corpse in a too-expensive, giant box.
But if I get cremated I can't have a spooky badass gravestone.
My uncle was put into a grave. The difference is the box is a tiny square and so is the grave. The gravestone was still normal, though he was just added to my grandparents' gravestone so I don't know what the case is if it's just one cremated body.
That situation reminds me of the time it was illegal for people to die in my town because there wasn't any cemetery space left.
That's a brilliant idea! Let's make dying illegal, and anyone who gets caught dead will be imprisoned for all eternity in a special prison designed exclusively for corpses. Maybe we can call them "catacombs"?
Sky burials seem weird to Westerners but it makes perfect sense in a place like the Himalayas. The ritual purpose for it is, according to Buddhist ideas, that because the individual has moved on to the next round of existence, the deceased body is no longer a vessel for the soul, and simply is a sack of flesh. Giving the body to the environment now that you no longer need it is seen as generous and reflects the virtue of being selfless in Buddhism, because you're helping other organisms. Depending on what anthropologist you ask, the concept probably has some practical purposes as well, that ritual simply encodes into social norms. Oftentimes worldwide, religious rites have practical considerations at their heart, and its religious associations act as an institutionalized means for people to take them seriously. In Tibet, it's probably more to do with the fact that cremation just isn't as environmentally sustainable when you barely have enough lumber as it is for everything else.
In a few centuries perhaps we can dispose of a backlog of bodies by dumping them into the Sun or perhaps into the Jovian atmosphere.
That situation reminds me of the time it was illegal for people to die in my town because there wasn't any cemetery space left.
Did they issue the death penalty?
Did they issue the death penalty?
nah, they got life
That situation reminds me of the time it was illegal for people to die in my town because there wasn't any cemetery space left.
What happens if they die?... Does your town have a ressurection machine to bring people back just to fine them?
let's do that for everyone so that we get forests instead of graveyards
Do you want haunted forests? Because, that's how you get haunted forests.
Do you want haunted forests? Because, that's how you get haunted forests.
The perfect way to conserve nature!
But if I get cremated I can't have a spooky badass gravestone.
Gravestones are made to order not unlike many other mundane products. You don't even need to be dead to get a badass gravestone! Or several, if you're rich.
