Linkin Parks new album is out. Fans says its sellout, Critics bad, Chester bennington goes mental

Well, anyone who follows LP or is a fan knows they generally tweak or change their sound every album so far. I gave the album a listen and some of the songs are alright, but it is for sure a new sound and new approach they're taking. I'm not a big fan of it but I give LP props for trying new things they want to do so they can attempt to grow. I don't think they're sell outs in any aspects and the idea of calling them that is funny because LP has been pretty mainstream....since you know...forever.
The album sounds like it's radio pop from half a decade ago, it's real bad. Worse than what they've putting out for the last, what, ten years now? And that's saying something.

If anyone wants to hear what reviewers are thinking of this pile.
honestly when i heard one of the new singles on the radio (which looking up, was the song Heavy) i was shocked when i saw that it was a linkin park song. it wasn't even recognizable as linkin park.
even their last 2 albums as different as they are from their roots i could still tell it was LP. this one not so much
the entire album felt like it was made in a lab with the most marketable pop melodies and lyrics possible.

I don't even care for Linkin Park and I feel like these songs sound nothing like them.
Linkin Park has always been metal for people who don't like metal anyway.
That's about right. LP has been a meme ever since they came out back in '00. A funny example:

And that's not counting "Crawling", hahah.
I "like" some songs from "Hybrid Theory" but I don't know how they've gotten so popular and haven't faded into obscurity like all the Nü Metal bands of the era.
Hybrid Theory and Meteora are the only good albums Linkin Park has made. I'll admit that I haven't listened a lot to their later work but it feels like they just get progressively worse album after album.
I liked A Thousand Suns as well, but it was definitely a change in style compared to Hybrid Theory and Meteora. Their new stuff is just... Well it's pop trash.
Why didn't they ever do more instrumental shit like Session? That shit was legit amazing.

No shit, Cure for the Itch and Session is probably what got me interested in hip hop and I still listen to those two songs ever so often.
Did anyone listen to Things in My Jeep?

edit:
It's really them
[sp]From Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping soundtrack[/sp]
I liked LP and respected them a lot for simply changing their music style abruptly after Meteora and when Minutes to Midnight came out. Everybody loved the shit out of Meteora and Hybrid Theory and the way they pushed through with Minutes to Midnight, playing those songs even if they got boo'd out on live stages showed that they were serious. Then A Thousand Suns came out and it went even further into a different direction. Then they slightly came back with Living Things and A Hunting Party, with Hunting Party being a good album in my opinion and a good mix of their old and new style.
But this new album is rather strange. It's too simple. I've heard of their drummer being very stressed out while making Hunting Party so maybe that's why they wanted to push the brakes. But the album is just too simple.
Listened to this earlier and it's legit 1/10 Top 40 trash. Even for radio pop it's bad. It sounds like a parody at times.

At the risk of going too off-topic here, but this whole debacle just reminds me of the latest endeavor by one of my favorite melodic death metal bands:

It feels like the band wanted really hard to make a radio-friendly album, but at the same time wanted to stick to their metal roots in some capacity. In the end, they came out with a product that isn't really worth being played on the radio and isn't much for their existing fans.
Compare this song to this track from their previous album, or this track from the album previous.
A strong departure, with no apparent rhyme or reason, and honestly no real point either. And Dark Age don't even have the excuse of being a popular band, and so having a chance of riding on that. :v:
One of the reasons they moved away from that is because Chester couldn't just keep screaming 24/7 and ruin his vocal cords.
That just means he refused to learn proper vocal technique's for doing harsh vocals. If you have the right technique you will not damage your voice and considering the fact that he's a professional musician he should have no problem visiting a vocal coach. Just sounds like he's lazy to me.

Y-YOU'RE A SELLOUT
I liked Linkin Park. Then Minutes to Midnight or whatever it was called came out and was shit. Then I just stopped listening.
As a human being, I have to say - this album is absolute garbage.
I think this is relative
Sellout is such a weird insult because just about every band ever has sold out in some way because its the smart thing to do.
I would argue the opposite - most bands who started on a clear base of artistic integrity did not sell out (making a radio friendly album does not make you a sellout), and bands who were clearly founded upon the primary aim of making a shitload of money and becoming superstars (best examples to me being Oasis and Kiss) never had anything to sell out of in the first place. This is only from bands I'm familiar with though, and I tend to get very very intimate with each new band that I discover so I don't discover new bands frequently.
Anyway, from the very little I know of Linkin Park, I would put them in the latter category. But I only know their hit songs, and even then I don't know them very well.

You should give A Hunting Party a try. The only album that really went back into the direction of the first two albums.
And yet nobody is posting the best version of any Linkin Park song ever.

From the comments.
Turns out that Linkin Park with cheerier music is actually a Persona 4 battle theme.•
I can definitely see it. Could some aspiring Facepuncher cut it to P4 or even P5 gameplay?
I used to like Linkin Park when I was a teenager, but quickly grew out of it as I got older. The only stuff I still like out of them these days are their heavy synth remixes, which they don't even do that anymore.

Honestly I thought this was their shining moment, I couldn't recall any other band at the time who did stuff like this. I still think Reanimation was probably their best album.
