SCORN devs regroup and try again with second kickstarter attempt following 2 years of more progress

A demo before the end of September? That's so fucking close
i really want to back it for the one that comes with a physical artbook but it's really hard to tell if the physical rewards are going to be any good with these kickstarter projects.
however the game looks fucking fantastic and i will definitely back it before the deadline.
Eyyy it's 2/3 of the way funded now. It's pretty much in the middle-of-kickstarter slump right now tho so I wouldn't expect much more funding to come in until the demo gets released in a couple weeks. Hopefully they'll get that out soon and news sites will report on it. That should give it the boost it needs to reach its goal.
That is actually the first kickstarter I ever contributed to. I hope it makes it.
Its strange that more mundane and less impressive projects have received more funding, faster than this ever has.
I don't care if the game itself is shit, just the love and detail put into the world and the horrible things in it is enough for me.
Their animators and artists are fucking talented.

It's a lot more "niche" or whatever the proper term is than a lot of those other projects. It doesn't appeal to everyone, and people who don't like the stuff shown in the game aren't likely to back it. Even though it deserves all the money it can get, as it looks so amazing right now.
The style is definitely interesting, it has me curious as to what the actual hell is going on. Some sort of bio-tech gone haywire? Alien infestation? Elder Things shit in the well water?

We'll see. I'm interested too. I also wonder if there will be dialogue, and if there is, if it'll be boring English or some horrible sounds with subtitles (could also be English)
Snip
I wonder if most of the weird creatures used to be people and are now turned into mutilated creatures that know nothing but suffering and pain, but they remember who they are. So they live everyday in agony and despair at their current life.

there isn't any. if you haven't already you might want to consider reading through the kickstarter's comments page. everyone is asking one of the lead devs questions about the game and he's been answering them nonstop since the campaign began
i did a quick skim through it, probably missed stuff
-part 1 is currently estimated to take 6-8 hours to finish
-no dialogue or even text outside of the main menu, there is a story tho it's ultimately a 'what you make of it' type deal, but there is still more to the storytelling than just "walk around and shoot stuff". kinda vague but we'll see i guess.
-each playthrough's story will likely be 'different' in someway for the players. they're being pretty vague about this but sounds like you maybe make some choices through the game, or maybe they just mean it in the sense of what you take away from it.
-you can sprint, but you can't duck/crawl or jump (shame)
-there are more guns, they just aren't ready to reveal them all yet
-will be graphics setting options but they just haven't reached that point of optimization yet
-focus is exploration, puzzle solving and fighting is secondary and will shift depending on your playstyle/the level you're on
-the VR stretchgoal is for a separate level just for VR mode. they can't do the entire game as VR.
-you save by reaching various save stations throughout the game world
-there will also be a 'prologue' released ahead of release at some point. backers at tier 2 and above get it earlier than others.
-the demo will be what you saw in the gameplay trailer
-the artbook is estimated to be roughly 64 pages

Harlan Ellison would have a field day with this game.
Well their kickstarter goal is certainly coming along nicely.
I hope the puzzles get appropriately weird enough, not just crate pushing and key collecting.
Like somewhere between Myst and RAMA levels of outlandishness.

That's really sucks. Wonder if they'll change that in the future
The lack of jumping is really frustrating. I foresee movement frustration.
I would contain my hype. From the trailer it looks like this game has nothing going for it besides the pretty art pass.
Why did they have to make this game a shooter anyway
The lack of jumping is really frustrating. I foresee movement frustration.
I want to crouch just so I can get a better look at the gross stuff.

It's an adventure game foremost. Shooting is just there for pacing the main focus will be puzzles and exploration.
eyyyy 3/4 of the way there
I would contain my hype. From the trailer it looks like this game has nothing going for it besides the pretty art pass.

i mean that's all I was ever expecting the game to be. Just a walking simulator through some seriously deranged environments. the occasional shooting just seems to be there to break up the monotony of it from time to time.
That's really sucks. Wonder if they'll change that in the future
part 1 is done pending polish and I can't imagine them drastically changing the movement system suddenly for when part 2 rolls around, so yea I'd say it's not gonna change
The lack of jumping is really frustrating. I foresee movement frustration.
well I mean you can still sprint but I'd say the bigger issue is just limiting what they can do with the game. No jumping to weird places, no crawling through weird tunnels. Just kinda limits the scope of it all to only places you can walk to/on. I'm tempted to ask if there's any swimming segments but it's probably safe to assume no as well, which is also a shame. I feel like if you're gonna do a game about exploring you should give players all the tools they need to really explore it, but o well the game is still an absolute trip and I'll be content enough just walking about
Given there's two other projects like this and the others are p much Stalker with demon penisseseses, this one being simple with more foreboding and laid back elements is fine, there's really nothing else like it on the market, and unlike last year's "AAA":dogcited: walking simulator, this one hasn't over promised and unlike IsolAlien this one doesn't seem to want to drag on for fucking ever.

ye that's something the devs have specifically commented on

Well game development is a complex business and things can easily go out of scope or budget. Feature creep killed many games, and that's why there's so much failed projects after successful kickstarter campaigns. We're steering clear from that. In theory we could expand the game forever and ever and never really finish it (like Star citizen), we could tell you guys that we'll do whatever you ask and then either declare bankrupcy or give you another No Man Sky. It's a fine line and we want to be on the safe side. Some things are deceptively simple from players viewpoint, some things are the opposite. Main thing is that we designed a game with all the necessary bits and we know how much people, time and money we need to do it. Although new features sound fun and tempting, we are super careful about adding anything.

Hey people! Thank you all for your support! Adding the features you guys are proposing would be great, but it would impact system requirements, time spend on the project, manpower needed, it could produce unexpected bugs, etc. There's a thing in game development called feature creep, and we'd like to avoid it :)

they really know what they're doing but given how long and how far into dev they are I suppose it's not too surprising. also there's really a lot of great info across the kickstarter's comments page, I'm so glad the devs are actually taking the time to answer questions on there
(also I know Agony is one of the two projects you're referring to, whats the other tho)
There's actually two others one by an eastern euro dev whose name I can't remember which looks like a gothic remake of doom, and then there's Heathen by FrogFactory.
Inner Chains is the name of the other one.
here's a kewl interview with the devs about the art and story-telling aspect of the game that just went live a few hours ago

interesting that they were only able to find one concept artist that really got what they were going for. Also I think this concept art is new:

That's what makes me concerned. If it was going to be a good walking simulator there'd be no reason to break up any monotony. Gameplay mechanics and the theme could actually complement each other

That's what I thought as well, sure it looks like it has some unique art and the gameplay is still quite early on but overall it looks so stiff. Honestly, looks boring at this current state.
Eyy finally time for an update as the Demo is now finally OUT. Everyone that backed so far should be receiving their key any minute now to activate on steam. All new backers will get there's probably by tomorrow. Also the campaign is now 96% funded so yea I'd say things are looking pretty good right now.
I kinda wish the demo was just released in full to everyone but whatever. Just got my key so gonna check this out now.
Is the demo good? If so, I might consider donating myself
I only got to play it for about 10 minutes or so but yeah so far I'm certainly enjoying it at least. Fuck that tentacle light monster lmao. Makes me panic every time since when it appears you have to quickly escape before it kills you by sight.

The sprint key is a godsend. There's no quick save or quick load but you can just quickly sprint back to where you left off.
