Super Eyepatch Wolf had a video on that, but I forget which one.
Publishers or whatever push the creators to near death for releases.
I remember seeing a picture once of the schedule of a 'high profile manga creator' and calling it insane was an understatement.
One piece is great but lmao whyyyyyy
health isssue and the actual end of one piece don't really seem to concern anymore: the series had some heavy development in the last year, even oda's latest "thank you" message for one piece's 20th anniversary heavily suggests that 2/3rd of the story is done. nowdays, oda usually puts out 3-5 chapters weekly before taking an entire week off and for now, his condition appears to be somewhat stable
still, like you said, a live-action adaptation is worrisome
It's ok. He's used to working 90-125 hours every week since 1997 with only one true vacation inbetween (2 weeks on Hawai in 2009). Peanuts. Last year, the series reached 70% of the story btw, Zanna.
His health has gotten a lot better. He landed in hospital and needed an operation, about 4-5 years ago. He gets now a break every 4-5 weeks. He still works everyday though.
Back then he was a chain smoker and ate pretty much only unhealthy stuff.
even if they decide to take some huge liberties (and they should) and adapt the very early arcs when most of the stuff is still to a certain extent "grounded" in reality, not even 100 chapters in the manga you start having stuff like the fishmen

how do you translate a humanoid species that's the combination of a human and a fish on the big screen without entering the uncanny valley?
Same way Pirates did it with Davy Jones, maybe? I don't think it's that big of a stretch.
Why do people force live action adaptations of anime so much? Especially to shows that just would not work with it?
This can only be hilariously bad.
How will the snail transponders work???

Thats Disney we're talking about tho, they can easily do Davy Jones and Crew.
unless they go crazy with the budget for special effects, this is gonna be terrible.

Philistines SMH
Can't appreciate the art of butchering a good concept for mass market appeal

OOOOOOOOOOOO NOOOOOOOOOO
Because Hollywood doing anime adaptations has gone so well in the past. Right, Dragonball Evolution and Ghost in the Shell?
Ghost in the shell was done very well, not sure what you're on about.
dear god no

ghost probably translates better than most but holy fuck they did not explain the cyberbrain stuff very well and then you see people just causually flip up their fucking face to stick cyber goggles on.
having gone back since and watched the original and the anime i now know they did not do a good job explaining it at all.
Ghost in the shell was done very well, not sure what you're on about.
It was a good scifi movie, it was not a good ghost in the shell movie.

I thought the compound of the words Cyber and Brain were self explanatory enough.
I can't wait to not watch this.
Ghost in the shell was done very well, not sure what you're on about.
Ghost in the shell was not good at all
I would watch the shit out of a movie that was like between Pirate of the Caribbean and Manga One Piece in terms of ridiculousness. I just don´t want the One Piece name stuck to it.
But yeah, One Piece was like the shit when I grew up. It helps that the swedish translation is super well done.
Well, since they're doing this now. Might as well watch it. I mean, I can't help but be a little curious, even if it's just to see how much they fuck it up.
Just wanted to post the following. By Sandman from the AP forum, I think it's the guy who is responsible for the manga chapter spoilers for years:
Oda says to the live-adaptation staffs, "Do not betray ONE PIECE fans who have been supporting us for 20 years." He also says, "Some people may be worried about this project, but don't miss it!"
Live-adaptation of OP has been brought up many times. Oda agreed to the idea 3 years ago.
Marty Adelstein in Tomorrow Studios made a comment:
I've been enjoying ONE PIECE for 20 years. This live-adaptation project will require the largest amount of money in TV series history. It's well-deserved considering people around the world pay attention to ONE PIECE.
That is actually really reassuring. Oda definitely feels like a person that cannot be brought to promote a project he does not genuinely think will turn out fine.
Ghost in the shell was done very well, not sure what you're on about.
Only good thing about that movie was the visuals

Probably being the least awful doesn't mean its good.
Budget per episode will be between 9 and 10 million dollars.
For comparison, GoT is the currently made with 6 million per episode.
did one piece ever have enough fans in the US to warrant a 9-10 mil a episode budget

I don't understand the question. They don't have just one country as their target audience with this TV series. Fans of the manga are all across the world.
yeah but i didnt expect the one piece fanbase to be big enough to warrant such a budget for a show.
not even marvel does that for their tv shows

It's the most successful manga in the world (400+ million copies sold) and the third highest selling comic in the world, only behind Superman and Batman. + the merchandise, movies and all that stuff. There is a lot of money involved.
What's even more impressive is that it's a single consistent series opposed to Batman and Superman and all other comics by DC and Marvel that had re-told stories, reconnections, restarts, hundreds of sub-comic series and all that.
"live-action TV series"
will it never end just like the manga?

If you think that the manga doesn't have progress in its story, then you obviously don't read it.
By reading it you'll see and understand why the series is very long and it's justified by having the story being interconnected with pretty much every arc it contains.
It's also currently not longer than other manga like Hajime No Ippo (1200 chapters) or Detective Conan (over 1000).
