we need another era of fursecution remember when 4chan opened up a furry board and permabanned everyone who ever posted on it? and all the yiff-in-hells? 2006-2009 was truly a golden age in furry culling :v:
"Ah yes, let's ban people for something they like, because there's totally nothing wrong with hating people for something they like, right?" I don't get it. Such rabid hate for a group of people who like (insert thing here) that they actively wish for bad things to happen to is just absurd, at the end of the day it's usually still a person behind the screen anyways.

I know parts of the community that just won't stop at anything to be innapropriately weird. The double standard with this however is that any community is like this. There isn't much difference between people willing to have sex in a wolf costume and those with anime body pillows or those making NSFW of their favourite tv or cartoon characters. How many of those people actively hating on the furry community post lewd pictures in another thread of their favourite manga girl? I would say a lot. 4chan is a place filled with depravity, but you gotta be a specific type of deprave to be allowed in.
Splatoon 2 literally has voicechat though.
No, your smartphone has voice chat.
man I can't imagine being so sheltered that I thought foot fetishes were extreme deviant behavior.
Isn't foot fetish like one if the most common ones? Also, furries are no worse about it than any other group with their fetishes and spreading them. The problem is people see any art of an anthropomorphic animal and immediately associate with being fetish art and therefore the fetish is being shown off and pushed in their face, which is not the case. And because furry characters by nature look different from a typical human, they stand out more. Keep in mind anime gets this as well, where people with anime avatars are often said to be showing off a fetish by having anime characters publicly displayed. Really the only other thing is that many furries often get OCs to represent themselves and some of those engage in their fetishes through art. And because the OC is an analog for the person themselves, people again see it as them pushing their personal fetishes on others.
Basically, the same reason why most furries get a bad rap is *almost* the same reason why something tame like a foot fetish gets a bad rap. The most things that people know of said fetishes are the extreme outliers. People tend to think furries are just out to yiff on and annoy everyone the same way people think foot fetishes are all about footjobs and dirty/smelly feet. In most cases, neither are the majority. They're usually just small kinks that people have. However, I will argue that it's harder to make a furry seem tame than it is a foot fetish. Really though, most furries I've known aren't terrible people. A little on the weird and eccentric side, yes, but nothing outright offensive. Relating to the topic at hand, the only furry posts I really had issue with were those of suggestive sexual nature, or those that didn't have any context related to Splatoon. If someone drew a tame furry who was simply saying they were on a certain team, I left it alone.
I just find the fact that furries are a thing at all to be completely hilarious. I can see why people may have issues with suggestive content in games with young audiences but I guess that is why games have a 'online experience not rated by whateverratingboard' disclaimer.

It's like walking into a pop culture store and freaking out because a shirt you don't like is there.
i did this once and wore the skins of my fallen enemies only later to realise that "shit i'm wearing a fursuit"
is that when you made a furaffinity and claimed that drugs made you do it, then deleted the FA and denied it ever existing?
Why do furries have to ruin literally fucking everything that's good.
Honestly if all it takes to ruin something for you is just some weird drawings of cartoon animals you probably weren't really that into it in the first place.
Honestly, I'm disappointed that in something as innocent as this, as long as there's something to point out, it's still used to reinforce such a strong attitude on the community. Before this was a thread here in SH, it came up briefly in one of the fast threads. What it was, was a plaful war between furries & the rest, but this sub has to turn it into a tragedy because of one guy or so.
Back when I had decent enough internet to be able to play TF2 online I would find myself in servers that were absolutely coated in furry porn sprays and fucking floppy dildo hats and shit like that. At first it was funny but rather off-putting, so I'd go and find a different server most of the time, but eventually I just said fuck it and stuck around for a few games and I came to realize that the majority of the people that frequented these servers were actually pretty fucking decent people to play with once you got past how fucking weird they were. They were very accepting, polite, fun to talk to and you didn't see many people coming in and just being complete assholes. The ones that were assholes usually just joined the server to bitch about furries and were promptly banned. A couple of the servers I went to ended up being some of my favorites just because of how generally decent the players were. They knew I wasn't into the shit but they didn't make me feel unwelcome because I wasn't a dick to them and I didn't complain about what they did with their servers. After a few games it was just funny how absolutely bizarre it all was and I was glad I stuck around and gave them a chance because I ended up playing some of the most fun and friendly games on those servers. This? This is absolutely nothing. These are actually pretty clever, honestly (I mean come on, one of them is someone saying their fursona is a fucking jar of mayonnaise. That's amazing), and I just don't see how anyone can seriously sit down and think, "This right here? This is a big deal."
Honestly, I thought we were past this 2009 attitude of furries ruin everything - in something as innocent as this, as long as there's something to point out, it's still used to reinforce that idea.
I think only like 2 people in this thread are serious with that stuff. Everyone else is at worst shitposting.
It really doesn't change the amount of green ticks on those posts from the first page. Regardless of which side can be blamed in the long run, it's a shame that one has to be ashamed of this niche in cartoon art.
It really doesn't change the amount of green ticks on those posts from the first page. Regardless of which side is to blame, it sucks that one has to be ashamed of this niche in cartoon art.
Why should you be ashamed of something that you have nothing to do with?
I shouldn't; but because of human nature, the fandom's reputation is a part of my reputation, and vice versa.
I shouldn't, but the fandom's reputation is inevitably a part of my reputation, and vice versa.
You probably play video games but likely don't feel some sort of shame when some 8 year old kid screaming bloody murder goes viral.
But another 8-year-old gamer might, since kids are easier to hate and therefore judged more harsly online. The same goes weird fandoms such as furries.
I shouldn't; but because of human nature, the fandom's reputation is a part of my reputation, and vice versa.
Don't associate yourself with the worst of any fandom, and you'll be fine. I'm honestly a bit "Lol furries" myself because I don't really get it, but that said I do have genuine friends who happen to be furries. Just be an alright person and people will be alright back, we're not here to judge you based on random other people.
Indeed, people rarely confront others about it personally, and that's good enough. I'm mostly talking about popular generalizations like those from users on the first page tho' - I doubt you can speak for them on that last note.
i think the issue is that furry shit isn't usually nsfw enough to get banned from forums (like here), so people will put it in their avatars or whatever like, i can't think of a time that i've seen a foot fetish avatar or whatever, but furry ones happen all the time
The line between "anthropomorphized character" and "furry character" have been blurred so much that it's honestly become really hard to tell. Not that I care, it's just much easier to mistake an anthro avatar for a furry one that it probably seems like they're more prevalent than they actually are.
Honestly if all it takes to ruin something for you is just some weird drawings of cartoon animals you probably weren't really that into it in the first place.
I still love the game, and I always will regardless of what the fanbase consists of, but now that "Splatoon 2 taken over by furries" is/was the biggest talking point about the game on a news board, I think the reputation of the game is kind of getting dragged through the fucking mud as a result of a bunch of morons parading around their fetish for neon colored animals on a game made to be enjoyed by all ages.
This is why Nintendo avoids online interactions.

You should know that this art has two sides: there's the lewd stuff, and then there's the cute stuff. The cute stuff is arguably what most find first, remaining their primary interest. Most of what we saw here was completely innocent, and in no way meant to be fetish art.

Maybe I'm biased but methinks you're taking this a bit too seriously. It's a bunch of cartoon dogs with a small minority of people making a big shitshow out of it.
