More than likely it's to do with aerodynamics and the overall handling. the Gumpert Apollo was/is an ugly bastard and yet it was the fastest car around the Top gear track precisely because of that fact.

Lets face it, if you are one of the 10 people on the planet that could afford this car, you probbaly already own 50 other exotic looking sports cars purely for the looks, so much so that this is just the "it might be ugly as sin, but you're only gonna be seeing it's tail lights anyway' motor.

idk if it still is, but the worlds fastest drag electric car was a 1969 mustang that was converted into a electric. I still wish they kept the engine because it was the rare 429, and used like a v6 mustang instead. it ran like 9.6 i think, which is excellent by electric drag racing standards because they have a awful trap speed.
