• Papa John's blames NFL leadership for lackluster pizza sales as shares sink more than 11%
You're ignoring what Papa John's claimed was the cause of the decline. It's not like protesting NFL players hurts the entire pizza industry overall. But it will hurt a company that has exclusive rights to advertise with the NFL because no one is responding to the ads. Now you have a company that's spending money on ads that are not yielding results. Pizza Hut is not affected because their market reach is not suffering due to poor NFL viewership. This comes down to strictly ad revenue and declining market reach for Papa John's. Papa John's does a lot of marketing with the NFL.
Are you saying that people would forget what papa johns is if they didn't see commercials for it? They'd go to order pizza and just have no idea what places deliver pizza?
Are you saying that people would forget what papa johns is if they didn't see commercials for it? They'd go to order pizza and just have no idea what places deliver pizza?
How is this hard to grasp. Papa Johns pays a lot of money to be THE NFL PIZZA PLACE, when viewership goes down along with general bad publicity from both political sides towards the NFL the investment Papa Johns made gets hurt. [editline]2nd November 2017[/editline] if people stop watching something that you spend a lot of money advertising on, you'll lose money, its not even political its just how things work
step your game up, papa, pizza hut's calling you out on your bullshit
[editline]e[/editline] I feel like I hated papa john at a core level before even having their pizza, doesn't he spark up shitty opinions a lot? Pizza Hut never tasted right for me, only thing I get excited for is the personal pan cheese pizzas at taco bell combo locations, and even then it's more of a crisp waffle with toppings. In the meantime Dominos is still amazing if you're the type who loves good garlic breads, their crust recipe is A+ and is even better if you pair it with bbq instead of regular sauce, (top it with bacon or go full hawaiian, they do it good). I don't get why people bash on it over others, save for the types who absolutely refuse to eat anything that isn't burnt up thin crusts cut into squares [editline]e[/editline] discourse: I live in the center of chicago and deep dish is my life, and while I appreciate hand-toss pizza joints and good thin crusts now and again, new york style is basically a soggy grease-taco
I don't think people are saying what he's saying is wrong or right, just that he's coming off pretty out of touch for saying that the NFL is losing him money because they're not punishing players hard enough for kneeling in solidarity because all players in the league were threatened over a controversy that happened to involve a player who kneeled to silently protest police brutality also, if he didn't bank so hard on being THE pizza place for the NFL and spent money marketing it in other places than paying 100s of K's for ads during foobaw season, they could possibly be turning a profit this season :v:

I don't understand these 'hey maybe it's because your pizza is garbage???' posts, I mean it's not like their mediocre quality is suddenly a brand new thing that can explain a recent downturn in sales.
what is wrong with y'all papa johns is the least terrible of all major chain pizzas
what is wrong with y'all papa johns is the least terrible of all major chain pizzas
That don't mean it's not terrible though. Local places are almost always 10x better
plus it comes with that little tasty pepper pizza hut can't claim to come with a tasty pepper
papa johns' was the fucking shit here, too bad all of them closed two years ago
I can't believe people who watch football can only purchase Papa John's
Like I said in my first post here, I am or was a frequent enough customer with Papa John's app that employees made note of our house on some kinda board, and lemme tell you it's very obvious that Papa John's has a huge relationship with the NFL and other sports. They print NFL shit on the box, I constantly get emails about their sports related deals and such I imagine part of the deal is NFL heavily advertising Papa John as well. I think it's a little strange Pizza Hut made this joke since there's no correlation when with Papa John's there actually is a partnership. I don't think John is right about this mind you, just think it makes at least some sense but wouldn't ever for Pizza Hut. Now if Pepsico started getting fucked in the media, and Pizza Hut claimed lost sales because of it, that'd make some sense. But Pepsico in general probably has a better reach than Papa. I think Papa Johns actually offers Pepsi drinks which is fun when you think about how Pizza Hut is owned by them
That don't mean it's not terrible though. Local places are almost always 10x better
yes it is terrible but pizza hut, dominoes, and little caesars are 100% worse and nobody ever posts a picture of cardboard with sauce and a piece of string cheese in threads about them
I get the impression it isn't a nationwide trend but the Dominos in my town fucking owns, it's better than all the local places too. Everything tastes really fresh and the crust is soft and tasty. I love their pan pizzas with white sauce. I think Papa John's serves the cardboard cutouts they have on the wall as food.
I don't count that with those three because it's a "show up, grab pizza" as they keep them made and in warmers.
if you modify your order they make it fresh and its a whole lot less bad, on par with dominos easily. just get extra cheese or something
your pizza is shit. at least dominos realized this back when their sales were tanking and ran a great "hey we fixed it!" campaign [editline]2nd November 2017[/editline]
Why do American posters always end up arguing which fast food chain sells the least bad pizza/burger/etc. Don't you guys have independent joints?
yes, but even local stores branch out because a pizza chain is about the easiest thing to set up compared to any other takeout place

The only thing I hate about papa johns in terms of food is the goddamn breadsticks So bland, those are what actually taste like cardboard. The spicy pepperoni and sausage and cheesiness of the pizza is pretty good, and I like their cheese sauce
get fucked
In 2017 if you disagree with someone you're either a SJW or a racist/nazi.
I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this.
dominos made their pizza worse though
There's a secret option on the website to order the pizza without the garlic powder, it's pretty amazing. Might depend on the individual dominos, though.
I always thought Papa John's was the best of the big pizza chains, but living in a big city there's always a million local joints you can get pizza from that are cheaper and better so we never bother with 'em.
Here in Oklahoma we have this place called Mazzios that's fucking delicious and has some of the best ranch dressing I've ever had. Not a huge reason to get Papa Johns unless I feel like using my student discount [editline]a[/editline] It's certainly a chain but nowhere near as big as places like this.
I guess being from Indiana but I love Papa John's. It's 1000x better than the turd sandwich Pizza Hut.
Papa John's is still better than pizza hut but that's like saying HIV is better than bone cancer. Both franchises use garbage bulk products in their builds, especially their meats, some of which are by definition industrial grade institution food.
Nothing beats homemade jiffy crust cheesy ass hamburger pizza.
I'm sure cutting your worker's hours when the ACA came out so you wouldn't have to contribute rather than add 14 cents to each pizza didn't have anything to do with your declining sales
Every time I think about this guy, I remember this video where he tries to come across as a relatable dad as he walks into his Roman Colosseum of a house.
Remember that this is the same guy who said he couldn't afford to provide benefits for his employees.
Nothing beats homemade jiffy crust cheesy ass hamburger pizza.
Something you may want to try when making one of these: Instead of kneading the dough in flour like the instructions tell you to, try using Aunt Jemima's Complete Buttermilk Pancake mix. Gives the crust a very slight (not at all over-powering) sweetness, though it will smell slightly like pancakes as you're baking the crust for those 2 minutes.
yes it is terrible but pizza hut, dominoes, and little caesars are 100% worse and nobody ever posts a picture of cardboard with sauce and a piece of string cheese in threads about them
This usually boils down to either personal opinion or the individual franchise. Around here at least, Pizza Hut, Domino's, and Little Caesar's are all perfectly fine outlets (unless you get an hour-old Hot-N-Ready from LC). But then I'm the sort that actually likes the Shur Fine cheap-ass frozen pizzas, but maybe that comes from me growing up poor.
Did he just promise the delivery guy a tip but then sent him off without ever giving him tip?
What, you think he got rich by giving money away that he didn't need to? HA, I say, and HA again!
Why do American posters always end up arguing which fast food chain sells the least bad pizza/burger/etc. Don't you guys have independent joints?
Due to economies of scale, when it comes to cheap food, large chains just offer much better quality for the price.
that garlic shit domino's puts on the crust? god tier
Did anyone ever try the Pizza Hut thing where they had cheese filled garlic knots on the crust? Good shit.
weird how there are several fast food hamburger places that are cheap and decent, but its almost impossible to get good fast food pizza at least ceasers is cheap, but most fast food pizza is just as expensive as mom and pop stores, while tasting like shit
Did anyone ever try the Pizza Hut thing where they had cheese filled garlic knots on the crust? Good shit.
Yes and it was delicious
