What is it with every moron under the sun having their own emoji catalogue and constantly throwing the babb out with the bath water and redesigning the whole thing because some peeps with tiny penii aren't pleased with the minutia?

You can think of different emoji sets as different fonts (because that's basically what they are) and it makes a lot more sense

This one might just come down to cultural differences. I read a pretty interesting article somewhere about how different cultures interpret the same symbols (like emojis) completely differently. While the three on top look like more of a cringey grimace, samsung looks more like an angry one. I don't think either are wrong, just different interpretations of the same thing.
that cracker/cookie one, I dunno. Maybe if you consider them both to be biscuits they might be considered the same thing.

It's not going to happen for a while but I'd love to see a widely-adopted standard for custom emoji so I can [IMG]https://i.imgur.com/FYN4ZZh.png[/IMG] whenever and wherever I want

Isn't there a way to do this on Android? I would imagine there would be, e.g. using a system font which contains its own set of emojis

I'm sure you could, but the point of custom emoji is that you get to share them/use them with other people.
Kind of like how pidgin let you set custom emoticons that worked with other people back when people actually used pidgin

It really depends on the chat protocol if the client isn't custom.
QQ for example lets you use (and copy) whatever smileys you want, but that one's a horribly insecure Chinese program that is outright detected by some virus scanners.

MSN's desktop application also had this shit on the protocol
you could send like max 10 per message
so we got really creative with our character usage
