What advantages would Source 2 even have for CS: GO?
Although a Panorama UI would be dope for CS:GO if we could have something similar to the DOTA2 loading stuff
You shoud check out the Half-Life/Portal thread, that's where most Source 2 leaks get analyzed.
Source 2 would have much higher limits than Source 1 (notably as far as map sizes are concerned), it also has advanced AI behavior and particle effects, also very cool destruction effects (crumbling floor, shattering glass and all that).
Blah blah blah blah. Fuck this noise about Valve.

It's also generally got some neat shader stuff, afaik a bunch of things to improve skin/character rendering and other model effects(e.g. there was a real nice monitor renderer, kinda like the screens in HL2 but with individual pixels that fluctuated over the image).
testinglol's the main guy who finds this stuff, anyone interested should probably just search his posts because that's where the leaks appear first :v:
Between Chet, Erik, Marc, and Moby having now left Valve, no one here mentioned that Kelly Bailey also left Valve a while ago.
Yeah but he left years ago. And then he came back and left again.
All I've seen valve do for the last 5 years is experiment in games marketing and business tactics. Trying to find the best way to separate the consumer from their money.
They've gotten good at it, it's just they aren't releasing games. They aren't building their reputation for the better and they think they can ride the coat tails of HL forever but they can't.
and they think they can ride the coat tails of HL forever but they can't.
Pretty sure they aren't doing that when there hasn't been a HL game in 10 years. And they developed the HTC Vive which seems to be a pretty damn good VR device.

Despite that Valve is still most known for Halflife and innovating the fps.
They aren't known for VR as much as oculus is. and so what, everyone has done VR.
Isn't peddling useless knife skins for CS:GO Valve's thing these days? I'm pretty sure TF2 is only months away from being sent to the glue factory.
Valve has confirmed that they're literally working on the biggest ever update for tf2 at the moment

Yeah, they aren't known for their other excellent titles like L4D1 and 2 for coop or Portal 1 and 2 or Team Fortress 2, CSGO, some of the most played games on Steam.
Also, HTC Vive is the biggest competitor to Oculus Rift and they have apparently made many breakthroughs with their VR device.

Oh come on with that shit. They spent over a year hyping up a comp update that came out eight months later than it should have, was garbage, needed HUGE balance fixes that have never come. The game is a fucking mess, hardly runs and is a balance nightmare. They have addressed none of these problems.
They fucking skipped Halloween properly AND Christmas for an update that was 'soon'.
For a team of over 16 people who I am genuinely convinced are scamming the rest of the company by being paid to do literally nothing but solve tiny bug reports for months
I'm just waiting for them to release source 2 as a proprietary engine.
I'm just waiting for them to release source 2 as a proprietary engine.
Problem is that Valve work much slower than other companies.
Typically where you'd expect something in a year valve are like "yeah sure you'll get it in (2+1) years"
All I've seen valve do for the last 5 years is experiment in games marketing and business tactics. Trying to find the best way to separate the consumer from their money.
Agreed. Nothing good comes out Valve anymore.
Agreed. Nothing good comes out Valve anymore.
Ive heard a lot of good things about the Vive and this Steam Controller i have is real fuckin nice so i dont know about that.
Agreed. Nothing good comes out Valve anymore.
An exceptional eSports scene with CSGO and DoTA2, innovation in VR with their partnership of HTC. That's about it though. I must say though at least I appreciate the fact Valve has already taken care of the creative side of their games that make items for their games.
I love how people are blaming Chet leaving on Valve's "obsession with VR", despite the fact that Chet is one of the biggest VR evangelists/advocate in the industry.
I'm not giving up on HL3 until they miss the Half Life 20th anniversary next year. If they miss that and don't do anything more than a sale on games everyone already has then fuck em.
And all this about Valve being dead? In your dreams. It's like claiming Nintendo is dead: They'd need to do nothing but burn money for decades to come close to that point. I want Half-Life 3 too but I don't see why I should get upset about it or how it relates to an employee leaving or how it's a harbinger of the end of Valve.
didn't think I literally had to write "valve (as we once knew it) is dead" for you to understand im not actually saying valve is a dead company that is going bankrupt
Ive heard a lot of good things about the Vive and this Steam Controller i have is real fuckin nice so i dont know about that.
I own a Vive and a Steam Controller, and I own every Valve title and exclusively use Steam, but I still know Valve's last good game is nearly 10 years old and there's little to no hope for the situation to improve anytime soon outside of VR, maybe.
It's tragic, like having to put the family dog down.
Don't think most people think Valve is dying but they aren't doing the stuff people originally liked them for anymore and that past seems further and further away every time one of the big developers/writers leaves the company
They really need to make a singleplayer experience of some kind to renew faith that they can still produce content like that but what reason do they have to do so financially? They're doing fine with their current business acumen.

They're apparently doing 3 full blown VR games and at least one singleplayer game (i dont think he mentioned if they're mutually exclusive so it could be two multiplayer VR titles and a singleplayer VR title, or 3 VR titles and a singleplayer game), according to Gabe during the AMA.
Also in the Half-Life thread i believe, someone got to ask a guy who works at valve some stuff during a Q & A and he mentioned that the VR titles are "big". Usually they're as open about working on stuff like that so i get the impression they might be showing something new this year.

Haha what? You STILL think VALVe is going to do HL3?
Haha what? You STILL think VALVe is going to do HL3?
Probably.
I'd say its more a question of how long its going to take.
Optimistic post:

this is more optimistic than telling the severed head of a beheaded man "you're going to be fine"
I remember the good old days, when I used to be excited about Source2. Source2 sounds old now. :/
You shit talking Portal 2?
Portal 2 is the last good title, and it was essentially abandoned because they couldn't monetize robot hats.

From an interview with valve, the exact words are "one of the biggest updates ever".

Either way, if they're planning to kill the game for some reason they'd have to be fucking brain-dead to spend the last two years working on competitive mode, which requires long term investment to be at even worth doing.
