That's [del]1680[/del] 1800 calories worth of Pepsi a day :wow:
The amount of sugar in that.. at least 500 grams..
The thing about diet and zero calorie/sugar drinks is that they use an artificial sweetener that makes your blood glucose level go just as high, making your body once again produce elevated insulin levels. While you may not gain any weight because there are no calories, you're still stimulating your pancreas, and will still be predisposed to diabetes because of it. The only sweetener that I know of that DOESN'T do this is stevia.
I'm addicted to soda. I know it's the sugar in the soda that's addicting me and not the caffeine, because I've taken caffeine in pill form (100mg, or about one cup of coffee) for over a month while trying to kick the habit and I still craved soda. I ended up drinking soda and not taking the pills. It's tasty, it perks my mood up, I feel energized when I drink it, and without it I struggle to function. I started drinking it daily around high school once my parents stopped limiting how much I could have. Some days I would drink soda only, no water, and I'd keep it up until I absolutely needed water.
Nowadays I still mainly drink soda, though I try to drink water more often. I have at least two cans/20oz bottles a day. I'm overweight and not happy with my body image, but every time I tried to quit soda I ended up relapsing, so now I'm just accepting it as a part of my life. I'm trying to get more exercise and adjusting my diet by not eating anything sugary besides soda and limiting my carbs. Basically I'm trying to work around soda since I've given up trying to give it up.
Even though I know soda addiction sucks, I'm definitely opposed to banning it from adults, because its more of a sugar addiction than soda inherently, and banning sugar or regulating how much can be in a product is unfeasible. Banning it from kids is a slippery slope because it opens a can of worms on what other foods could be regulated - things like candy, or even buffalo wings, which are chock full of calories and I could see some lawmaker/soccer mom try to ban any food not 100% healthy. Banning soda would also seriously limit access to it for everyone - no more vending machines (unless they require ID somehow), since kids could take $1.50 and buy a soda unsupervised.
I do think that the health effects of soda should be taught in school just like DARE does for drugs. Everyone knows its "bad" for you and will make you fat, but the effects take a long time to manifest and occasional usage isn't harmful. However, long term effects on mood, skin, diet, etc. arenb't talked about as often and there aren't any resources for people struggling with it who lack the willpower to overcome, aside from expensive dieticians or personal trainers.
Also, back on topic, littering sucks.
I was in your shoes once. I would go through a 2 liter plus 4 or 5 20oz bottles a day. I was VERY overweight (still am, but I'm 59 lbs down). Now, I drink nothing but water and any workout stack (pre workout, creatine, BCAAs). I have one piece of advice: DON'T TRY COLD TURKEY. IT WILL NOT WORK.
The first thing I did was switch to crystal light packets. 5 calories per pack, and still sweet. Yes, it has aspartame, which stimulates insulin production, but it's less than sucrose. Once I got used to that, I would start watering it down a little more and a little more. Then, I started replacing one or two with just a bottle of water. And I didn't go too fast. I made one small change every week or two, and kept with it. One small habit change at a time.
Also, if you're overweight, definitely go get checked for sleep apnea. It can actually cause you to have cravings for sugars and carbs because your hormones get thrown out of whack, and your body is looking for energy since you're not resting. It was like flipping a light switch when I was diagnosed and got my CPAP. I no longer crave unhealthy food and drinks nearly as much as I used to. Made tackling health issues so much easier.
Looking at the picture, it's definitely in the shell rather than just on top of it.
Can I ask where you live Mister Sandman? Because you're describing not only my exact experience with soda, but what's normal where I live.
Yea I grew up where once you were passed the "only can drink milk" stage you were handed a soda and when I was like 12 I had to check myself because I realized I could easily smash 4-5 in a counter-strike sitting. Only at 23 did I go like "woah I should actually stop." and even then I refuse to go cold turkey and still snag one with meals and whatnot.
Also around here if your parents buy you something, you drink it. Telling them "i'm trying to cut down on soda" isn't really a thing because even if you do, they'll forget and buy you soda because in their head that's a nice thing to do for someone (as they have not yet reached the point I, or Sandman have in realizing that soda is truly awful).
12 cans of pepsi a day ._.
I can understand going through drinks this rapidly. On bad days, I drink like 9 cans of Arizona Green Tea. But Pepsi?
My teeth feel like they're rotting just from the thought.
[editline]a[/editline]
And that's not even their "on a bad day" scenario like mine is.

Can confirm crystal light is my shit. Water can be hard to switch to on it's own and crystal light is a nice middleground. I don't drink just crystal light but it's a nice thing to accent your usual water without being too bad for you.
Also my own advice; get exercising and bring a personal water bottle. Ice water becomes liquid gold when you're sweaty and hot. Really helps you start to like and appreciate it.

I love fizzy drinks, but even drinking 2 sodas or energy drinks in quick succession sounds unappealing to me.

I've found a decent middle ground by going for the 'not-soda's as I like to think of them. Things that carbonated and maybe even sweet but full on Coca-Cola style tar.
Milkis and Neuro Bliss are the the nicest things I can find locally since I'm usually limited to shopping at a Dollar General or at best Kroger.
I like OJ mixed seltzer water. Pretty healthy alternate.
Once we started populating our house with only sparking waters and teas the craving for soda went away fairly quickly. Now I tend to drink more out of necessity for hydration than I do for payoff of a taste.
Nowadays whenever I eat out of the house I always default to a glass of water, even when it's something that comes with soda.
that's more coke than i drink in a generous month
I used to drink 4 or 5 cans of Coca Cola a day. Just over two years ago I kicked that habit while my body was still in good working shape. Been on water ever since.
I want to go back. I hate water. I hate it. I hate it

Modern OJ is pumped full of sugar as well, unless you're squeezing your own.

Any OJ is full of sugar, whether your juice the oranges yourself or not.
Any OJ is full of sugar, whether your juice the oranges yourself or not.
Yeah, but stuff like simply orange or minute maid has added sugar on top of that.
Eating fruit is far better than drinking it (and I do mean FAR better) and you won't even get anything embedded into lobsters in the process, it's a win-win.
After I gave up drinking coke, even drinking it nowadays is fucking gross.
unhealthy drink choices aside, how the hell would anything have transferred the print to the claw so cleanly?
Yeah, but stuff like simply orange or minute maid has added sugar on top of that.
that and most juice basically isnt even juice with the shit they do to it
Because of the obesity/diabetic/metabolic issues from soda and personal gastrointestinal issues with coffee, I now simply take caffeine pills of around the same level of milligramage. Maybe it seems a bit more like an addict 'pill popper' behavior but I feel a ton better when I don't have to digest the shit caffeine is usually suspended in. In terms of the psychoactive 'total' after accounting for those sugar imbalance/lactose intolerance issues, it's generally a much smoother 'high' that leaves me with smoother, less spiky energy levels on a daily basis. No jitters, no shits, no stomach queasiness from the soda.
I have a weird relationship with caffeine; I drink a lot, but don't seem to feel any effect. It doesn't give me energy at all. I can drink a gallon of coffee and take a nap.
I also don't get any withdrawal symptoms when I stop drinking it. So I don't think it's a built up tolerance.
My solution to my Soda addiction so far is to just slowly replace that soda with flavored carbonated water.

My current theory is the lobster was injured, some of it's shell broke off, so it found something to cover the broken bit. Then when the lobster was ready to molt, the thing was actually touching where the new shell was being pushed up (they grow their shells in a way similar to how we regrow skin) and it was stuck in the gooey shell from that point on, once the lobster molted, it was there, and the gooey shell hardened over it.
(if you can't tell, I really like aquatic life)
Honestly, if we ought to regulate soda, which I'm not entirely against, then energy drinks should go too. They are the same thing but worse and young kids see them as a cool thing to drink.
I agree but that's also the easiest way to make young kids see them as even cooler to drink
I'm not saying that soda is just as bad as cigarettes the same way one doesn't equate beer with heroin but that doesn't mean it's perfectly fine and shouldn't be regulated somehow.
Not to say that heroin isn't worse than alcohol for a lot of other reasons, but you can actually die from severe alcohol withdrawals, unlike opioids.
Really the only thing alcohol has going for it over heroin in terms of safety is the fact that it's never cut with dangerous compounds, it's less potent and it's less addictive.
I somewhat agree, though, children don't really have any self control unless it's taught to them. Outright banning children from being able to consume soda and energy drinks would be very difficult though, conservatives would throw a fucking fit, and honestly it is a very heavy handed approach and I wouldn't support something like that either. Educating children and parents on the matter would be the way to go. People don't often realize how addictive sugar and caffeine really are. A lot of people don't even consider caffeine a drug.

Some people are more sensitive to it than others depending on their body weight and metabolism. For example a cup of coffee or two is extremely fucking stimulating to me and I can't sleep for hours afterwards, while others get little to no effect from it.
I guarantee if you were to up the dose or take more all at once you would start getting effects eventually. Not that you really should, though, it's not worth it in the slightest.

Caffeine (and any stim) only really works if you're sleeping and eating well.
i drink a shit ton of coke and dr pepper so im probably addicted but its not like ive ever tried to stop and gotten a want to drink it again so idk
but even if i am i dont think i could ever truly just drink water, i need something with flavoring in it like a snapple or arizona or something. i would need to go for the cheapest solution that gives me the most too, and im not good at maths so i just think that the deals on coke cases around here give me the best bang for my buck

If you start just drinking water you will quickly realize how much you really don't need flavoring in your drinks. That's just what your brain is telling you.
After like, a week of it sucking, you get over it and it's not a problem anymore. Also, you can eat more bad shit and not feel the effects because unlike sugary drinks, bad shit makes you feel full.

Honestly, I'm happy it has no effect on me, at least in any reasonable dose. It means I can drink coffee in the morning because I like it and not have to worry about any sort of low after it wears off. I don't really have a problem with getting tired during the day anyway.
I have a good friend who can't drink any caffeine after 6PM or so because he has trouble sleeping when he does.
