Several Classic Maps Removed from Counter-Strike: GO| Vertigo, Aztec, Assault, and Militia

There are plenty of CSGO maps on the workshop that are more creative and technically inventive than even the most imaginative CSS maps if you're talking about custom user made content. Hide and Seek and many, many story driven missions for instance.
no vertigo, no csgo
It seriously is/was the most fun map to play, especially if you know the map and it's certain spots.
This seems like someone pressed the wrong button and removed the maps entirely by mistake.
The most troubling thing in my opinion is that people are complaining more than ever that they're tired of being given little choice and playing the same maps over and over again, and then Valve just goes and give you even less choice by removing maps from the game? Way to shoot yourself in the foot.

But Valve literally added cs_agency, cs_insertion, de_austria and de_shipped instead. They're not reducing player choice but they're trimming out the least popular maps in favour of something more popular. And I know that cs_agency is one of the most popular hostage maps, not sure about the other ones. Reducing player choice is something they have not done.

I just read the blogpost and entered the game and I only see Agency out of those.

I see 11 maps in total to choose from in Competitive, I don't remember it ever being so small a choice.
Vertigo and Dust are probably the most fun maps to play on, what a shame
They even edited Millitia recently and that is also nice to play, regardless of the classic maps being used as meme competitive maps or for boosting teams or whatever

also removing classic maps breaks like half the csgo achievements lol
I wish we still got to keep them in casual, or even just in deathmatch at least. Aztec and assault were some of my favorite maps and I hate to see them gone completely, and I don't see a reason to not just make it exclusive to casual.
Unbelievable. Another thread about CS:GO where no one knows what they're even talking about.

Enlighten us, Mr. Scientific CS:GO.
I don't understand how anyone found any of the removed maps fun in competitive. They should really still be on official deathmatch and casual but the removed maps were the least fun maps to play, it was a coin flip as to if you won or not.
This is the dumbest fucking shit. What's the matter Valve? Your lootboxes aren't keeping the lights on so you have to wipe half the maps to lighten the server load. Fuck right off.

So you agree with the fact that they remove maps from the game entirely? You can't even play them with bots or in casual. Literally the opposite of free DLC.
I didn't even know Militia was in CS:GO...
... why would you remove them from the game? Why not just remove the ability to play them unless you are running a private match?
Unbelievable. Another thread about CS:GO where no one knows what they're even talking about.
People are upset that Valve removed more choices from them?
Or are the users here only allowed to comment about CSGO if they have 2k+ hours, B+ 11 rws, Supreme+?
Relax.
Removing them from competitive, okay, I get that.
But why remove them entirely?
do people even play CS:GO as much as they did like two years ago? I thought with the release of like over watch and some stupid updates from CS:GO itself the community was slowly dying
I played a shit ton of competitive two years ago and once I got global I stopped playing.

it’s dying
I'm not sure why they removed them entirely. But they needed to be removed from Competitive.
There's been a long-standing issue with "Vertiglobals" - people who only queue on the least-played maps in competitive. If you're any good on these maps, like Vertigo, you'll win every time because you'll likely get matched up against people who kept Vertigo in their matchmaking map pool and never expected to actually get put into a match on it.
So you end up with a bunch of people with Global Elite ranks who aren't actually at Global Elite levels of skill.
RIP Assault; despite all its flaws, I still found it a really fun map to play on.
I'm the weirdo that liked Aztec, because it was the only map I remember all the paths and routes on. :frown: Plus, my old ass doesn't have the reaction time that 16 year old snookypookums did, so Aztec with bots was like Bingo night in the senior center for me - challenging, fun but not taxing, but absolutely dreadful for anyone under the age of 20.

Or maybe it's people who are playing the game every day and asking for this to be done? They aren't trying to please the people who haven't touched Counter Strike since CSS or the first month of CSGO's launch.

You can download them from the workshop if you want to. I'm sure there's a legitimate reason to remove the maps from the game aside from pissing people off. If anything it's because the maps are old and outdated as hell and they are starting to clash with how the game looks these days. They've completely redone 3 classic maps, have added in dozens of high quality community maps, and are also redoing all of the playermodels. This is an effort to make CSGO more modern and the old maps are on an official valve workshop account for posterity's sake.
It's ridiculous how up in arms people are getting who probably haven't even played CSGO and just remember these maps from when they played them in middle school on CSS and are getting nostalgia pains. I reinstalled TF2 recently to check out the latest update and the 3 new maps make most of the older maps look like absolute garbage. Same thing is happening in CSGO except there's an actual competitive community behind it that they are trying to appease by doing radical changes.
Again, these maps are on the workshop, they aren't deleted from the internet forever, and they are undoubtedly going to be overhauled like Nuke, Train, and Dust and added back in the future.

The graph is right there, the trend line is basically the same since mid-2015, it's not dying lmao.
CS:GO is just CS:S with microtransactions and less content. It's garbage. Ignore it.
These maps being removed are proof positive of that.
You clearly haven't played CS:GO since 2012 (when it actually was meant to be a reskinned CS:S for consoles) if you actually believe that, CS:GO and CS:S are incredibly different games.
Removing them from competitive, okay, I get that.

It's likely adhering to the standard of "Keep everyone playing the same game" by keeping the map pools identical. If the maps aren't available in official matchmaking, there's no functional difference between having them included with the game or hosted on the workshop.
Enlighten us, Mr. Scientific CS:GO.
Alright, I don't know why all of you are so hurt about the fact that you can't play ranked matchmaking in some of the most broken, unbalanced and outdated maps anymore (even though more than half of this thread doesn't even play CS:GO), but people who would boost/cheat in those maps to get a higher rank was a serious problem and I am glad it's gone. Sorry that those terrible maps that had 10+ minute queue time and was infested with boosters, griefers and cheaters were removed, but if you think that the only way to have fun in this game was to play on half-assed maps while abusing all the weird shit that was in them then I am afraid you will have to find something else to do.
Also with comments like these I am indeed very sure that no one here has a single fucking clue about how this game works:

You can always redownload them from the workshop.

I am very sorry that you can't grief and hack on ranked MM Assault/Militia games anymore. My condolences.

downward trend since the start of 2017
not dying
I don’t get it

while "dying" is enormous hyperbole, the game is starting on a downward trend after peaking - the game has lost 33k players in the last 3 months, and would have been in a far worse state had it not exploded a bit in January.
You're seeing a similar thing with Dota 2, which peaked in September 2016 and has been slowly losing players since then. (It has lost 150k players since October 2016)
I'd certainly be looking at trying to reverse that if I was Valve.

avg players remain consistent but all time peak isn’t

Ah yes the notorious hack video poster / booster in the csgo thread crying about his practices being destroyed. No one cares really

You don't seem to get it. If the maps were only removed from MM then nobody would give a shit, but these maps are being removed completely for reasons that are matchmaking specific.
Since they're at it why don't they go ahead and remove maps from gamemodes that aren't being played a lot too, like for example the map sugarcane. It's just a weird sudden decision and now all the hostage maps we have are agency and office, two out of a total of 11 MM maps.
