Anthony Rapp accuses Kevin Spacey of alledged sexual advances, Spacey apologizes and comes out gay
The guy's accusing him of something that he should have come forward with right after, not 32 years later. Personally I doubt Anthony Rapp is telling the truth because of the fact.
As much as I liked Spacey, I doubt this is Anthony taking advantage of the current social climate to try and lay blame to him. Rapp shared this part of his life before, in 2001. The difference was that in 2001 he decided not to name his aggressor. The story hasn't changed, and I doubt he would throw in a different name just to destroy Spacey's career; it'd sabotage his chance to ever receive closure from the actual perpetrator.

He has talked about it years ago, but omitted the name at the time.
And sexual abuse survivors not talking about it until years later is so common as to hardly warrant this reaction - and male ones are even LESS likely to talk about it.

im not gonna take a side on a rape case like this until there's more info but god damn "he shouldve come forward sooner" is the exact line of thinking that lets people get away with fucked up shit
Also it's assuming it's true, but with all the recent things I'm hearing about Spacey and young boys... it's not good... I want to stick with what I'd said earlier in this thread, but, the cards are stacking up against me.

God fucking dammit that wasn't on purpose btw.
Even if it isn't true, the accusation has been made and some of the damage has been done. Even if it turns out that this guy is lying, people won't necessarily hear that part of the story.

On the other hand why would this guy lie
On the other hand why would this guy lie
No idea and considering his story has apparently been consistent for a long time, it looks like it could be true. That said, I don't really want to speculate on what happened, I just think that this period of uncertainty must be real shitty for everyone involved.
He did it.
He invented a bad time to come out.
The fucking madman.
Yo, keep in mind this story begins with Spacey inviting a 14 year old to his place for a party. This wasn't him drunkenly making a pass at him after a show or something. He likely had intentions from the beginning. I'm taking the "I don't remember" as him maintaining deniability while not contesting the claims.
Edit: removed legal metaphor. Wasn't trying to say Spacey was trying to literally plea innocent or guilty.
Keep in mind that the story also contains Rapp walking away from the party because he was bored. That was probably the only reason that he was still there when everyone else had left. Did he plan that too? It could very well be drunkenly making a pass on the last person at the party. Not that it makes it okay.

Are you serious? If someone gets raped and doesn't come out about it for years then too bad? It sounds like you're saying this.

What the fuck.

Did WickedPlayer hack you or something.
Forgive me if this is ignorant but am I the only one who thought that Kevin Spacey was gay even before he came out? Maybe I am confusing him with Jim Parsons...

It explains his superb performance as Frank Underwood. :v:
He was so convincing you think the actor himself is gay.

says the man who understands literally nothing about psychology, abuse victims, power dynamics, and has probably never been in a situation like this.
fp is really beginning to gross me out with the favoritisms / exception cards

the general attitude toward victims & women especially has been gross here for a long time
the general attitude toward victims & women especially has been gross here for a long time
Not really; for quite a while now on Facepunch, threads dealing with controversial/complex victim or harassment situations have lead to some pretty interestingly taboo discussions and questions that deal directly with inconsistency in philosophy, assertions upon traditional reactions and results to a presented story, and in this case, the balance of personal biases and longtime expectations with the fact-of-the-matter. While these conversations may not always be healthy or have conclusive outcomes, I would say Facepunch has evolved past the snipe-heavy SH of before and fosters a pretty healthy bed of opposing but well-formed opinions.
Even at its worst, calling the general attitude to some group "gross" is a pretty overarching statement - you can find comments that fall under that umbrella in every thread but it doesn't make it the majority consensus.
any time i see a post like what goldendargon makes i actually sort of get like, out of my body in disgust and contempt
[editline]31st October 2017[/editline]
there's a lot of rape apologists here no doubt, any time a rape related thread comes up it always has the token "why didnt they come out with it sooner, they have to be lying"
this is probably the first time i've seen a decently large backlash to such a comment but it's not great
Sure, there will always be that guy (or a few) who posts the exact quote you're saying, but the core of discussion from my point-of-view has been progressively becoming at least decently well-formed. That is under the assumption, though, that you don't consider every poster that even somewhat questions the story or circumstance an "apologist."
What irks me the most about this story is that Kevin Spacey doesn't even deny the encounter but merely states:
I honestly do not remember the encounter ... But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior ...
An apology wouldn't really cut it though, would it??? Especially since it was directed at a minor. If you are innocent, wouldn't you defend yourself and condemn pedophilic behavior? I'll let the courts decide whether he is guilty or not, but his response makes him very very suspicious.

He's deflecting, my dude.
He probably knows he's finally going to get punishment for his terrible shit.

It's some awful and futile deflection then.
New allegations have emerged from a number of men accusing Kevin Spacey of sexual misconduct.
US filmmaker Tony Montana claims he was groped by the actor in a Los Angeles bar in 2003.
Montana says he was left with PTSD for six months after he claims Spacey "forcefully" grabbed his crotch.
It follows an allegation made by Anthony Rapp that the House of Cards actor tried to "seduce" him when he was 14 years old.
Kevin Spacey says he has no recollection of that encounter, and was "beyond horrified".
Film director Montana told Radar Online that he was in his thirties when the incident took place at the Coronet Bar in LA.
He says he removed Spacey's hand from his crotch and walked away, but claims the actor later followed him into the men's toilets.
'Routinely preyed'
Incidents regarding Spacey are also alleged to have taken place in the UK while the two-time Oscar winner was the artistic director at the Old Vic in London between 2004 and 2015.
Mexican actor Roberto Cavazos, who acted in several plays at the theatre, claims Spacey "routinely preyed" on young male actors.
"It seems the only requirement was to be a male under the age of 30 for Mr Spacey to feel free to touch us," he wrote in a Facebook post.
He said he fended off two "unpleasant" advances from Spacey that "bordered on harassment," but that others were afraid to do so.
"There are a lot of us who have a 'Kevin Spacey story'," says Cavazos.
The Old Vic has set up a confidential complaints process for anyone connected to the 200-year-old theatre to come forward.
It said in a statement: "We aim to foster a safe and supportive environment without prejudice, harassment or bullying of any sort, at any level."
'Seedy and a bit weird'
Separately, a British man claims Kevin Spacey exposed himself to him in 2010, when he was working at a hotel in West Sussex.
Speaking to the Sun, Daniel Beal alleges the Usual Suspects star flashed his private parts, saying: "It's big, isn't it?" and tried to get the then 19-year-old to touch him.
I'm glad I never got into the US version of House of Cards.
Huge fuck you for Kevin Spacey to try and distract from this by coming out.
Seems like more accusations are coming out of the woodwork...

Hes mediocre at best

Don't forget about the whole Clarkson thing. People were literally getting angry at BBC for sacking a man for punching a member of staff over cold food.
It keeps coming. Eight members of House of Cards production staff allege that Spacey sexually harassed people on set, and one has accused him of sexual assault

A 26 year old inviting a 14 year old to a party at his house raises enough alarm bells for me, personally. Run that through your head for a moment and think of how strange it is.
