To be honest if I had just happened to see an isolated tweet from them l might not have recognized it either. Its not something most people memorize.
"We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" is really the only passage I could tell you.

Democracy fails when its citizens are allowed to be absurdly uninformed yet still make decisions about things which are clearly beyond their capabilities. Worse still, we have a culture that fosters the belief that opinions are just as valuable as facts are; it's a tactful way of saying, "My ignorance is just as good as others' knowledge," which simply isn't true. I don't think you'll see this anywhere clearer than in the climate change debate, for example. People who normally would go to the doctor if they had a medical issue or go to a mechanic if their car had a problem think they know more than actual educated and experienced scientists who spend their lives studying it do. That's a serious barrier when it comes to creating and enacting policy.
Birthright democracy has a shitload of problems, and that's what makes it so dangerously self-destructive-- especially when you're dealing with people like this who reacted so irrationally against NPR on Twitter. You can bet that these people are politically-active. The loudest ones always are.
Voting, forming political opinions, and participating in government are skills dude. They have to be learned and cultivated, yet we don't treat them like skills for some bizarre reason. So in the end, this is what we wind up with.[/QUOTE]
I would much rather have people be able to vote like was given as a right, than to block it behind some wall that will be difficult to enforce regardless.
You're right that people believe opinions are just as valuable, but you think your method will change much? People still will focus on their own opinions, and block out whatever doesn't fall in line with their thinking.

With psychology papers replicating less than 40%, dietary advice reversing after 30 years of fatphobia, macroeconomic analysis working worse than astrology, and pharmaceutical trials replicating at best only 1/3 of the time, people are perfectly entitled to rely on their own ancestral instinct (even if it is wrong)
democracy works when it is in union with the people (you can vote and have significant power on daily affairs). it works least well when you vote for representatives who take policy advice from "experts" who are rarely in tune with the actual needs of the population
the reason a lot of people are often skeptical of global warming and vaccines isn't so much to do with these peoples ignorance as it is the often two-faced and hypocritical nature of the politicians and self-styled experts who have a shitty track record. if you want to fix society and government, you need to hold these psuedoexperts and other idiots to account instead of further divorcing them from the voting population (those that can actually remove them from power) and entrenching them so that when they do make a wrong decision (which is often), nothing can be done to really punish those responsible nor remove them from power

Clever lol it's the fucking Declaration and they posted it on the 4th. The posts would've been completely innocuous if people (and by the look of it, lots of Trump supporters) hadn't recognized criticisms of the sitting president in one of the [I]founding documents of our republic[/I] (or if our sitting president wasn't blatantly and routinely violating the principles laid out in said document).
But right it's NPR being "clever."

I can 100% guarantee one of your history classes covered the preamble which is sufficient to recognize what they were posting. Also any idiot could recognize they weren't talking about Trump once they start listing off the grievances the Continental Congress had with King George. Or are Trumpets so delusional that they actually think liberals believe Trump has dissolved the Representative Houses repeatedly or "has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people."
Even if you don't know much of the declaration of independence word for word, the language and tone is rather distinct.

It was posted on the 4th of July, that alone is enough context to at least look at the other posts. Also considering the formatting of several of the posts it's obvious they are parts of a greater whole.
Again, you don't need to have the entire Declaration of Independence memorized, there's enough there even out of context that it is obvious what was being posted.

the declaration of independence is exactly what it sounds like, the us declaring independence. it's essentially a long ass letter telling great Britain to fuck right off. it wasn't about establishing laws. How did you not learn about this in any world history classes??

Depending on the school your world history class (or even an American history class) may not cover the actual contents of the Declaration. Mine never did despite spending a fair chunk of time on the Revolutionary War.
