Well there goes the Tommy Wiseau theory :frown:
That's what Tommy wants you to think.
I wonder how he exchanged the money, afaik all of the serial numbers of the bills were recorded and never turned up.
Of course the FBI could be withholding that too as well since it seems like an embarrassment if he got away.
Given the tone of the letter, I would not put it past DB Cooper to not have spent any of the money and just keep it somewhere as a memento or something like that
It's a forgery. The real DB Cooper is at Fox River State Penitentiary in Joliet, Illinois.
No I'm not.

I thought DB Cooper was Tommy Wiseau.

I think some of the bill have turned up. I forget where, either in circulation, or found in the forest where he would have dropped. I also forget where I read that, maybe on the wikipedia.

A small amount was found down the river, it is assumed he dropped some on his descent/landing/ditched the satchels/whatever.
I love reading about mysteries like these. This, the Tamam Shud case, and the Dyatlov Pass incident are three that have stuck in my mind.
Tone doesn't matter. The reason "not boasting" is a reason why he won't get caught is that it provides evidence of a link. The act of mailing in a letter saying "you'll never catch me" is itself evidence - and it provides no benefit. It's not going to demoralize the FBI - if anything, it'll spur them on, to redress the insult.
Of course the tone matters.
Hot take: he says he has 14 months to live as a feint, to throw the feds off his tail.
How do they know the letter is genuine?
Also, I thought they found a bunch of the money he supposedly stole buried in a muddy river bank somewhere around where he jumped out of the plane?
I still prefer the theory that he wrestled Bigfoot to death.
I bet he spent all that money on donuts and damn fine coffee.
Now when will ted cruz tell us he's the zodiac

Isn't the Dyatlov Pass incident commonly accepted to be from Hypothermia symptoms?
Edit: Nevermind, read up on it again. Forgot about the weird-ass physical injuries.

I read that it may have been an avalanche that fucked them up first, then they died of hypothermia and scavengers picked apart the remains.
Honestly I never bought the theory that DB Cooper just died of exposure. The guy clearly knew what he was doing, even if his chute may have been defective. As a whole it seemed like it wasn't an extortion job but was a daredevil stunt.

But then why were their tents slashed up? An avalanche would have destroyed the whole campsite, but the tents were still there, although shredded.
[editline]21st November 2017[/editline]
As for D.B. Cooper, one of the theories is that he's an Air Force veteran and knew what he was doing. I've seen an off-shoot theory of that insisting the known drop zone is wrong. The pilot's recorded the drop zone when they felt a bump shortly after he took his parachute and went down on the ramp. But nobody actually saw the jump or the chute, they only recorded a bump. The theory I saw was that while on the ramp, he suddenly shifted his body to create said bump in order to make the pilots record the drop, but then waited up to several hours on the stairs before carefully disembarking. That would put the suspected drop zone and the area searched by the FBI, potentially several hundred miles away from where he really landed.

Panic. Basically they heard either the sounds of the avalanche or else animals and in their panic to escape they simply cut straight out of their tents. Then in their flight they were left without good protection from the elements and hypothermia quickly fucked them up. Also several of the ones away from the camp were found with injuries consistent with being buried in an avalanche.

As it states in the article, the letter mentions that Cooper left no fingerprints behind, and that was actually the case. That was never disclosed to the public during the investigation, so it's either an insanely lucky guess or the letter is genuine.
He actually got away with it. What a fucking legend.
