I backed up a thing that was filled with photobucket images just a few months ago, glad I managed it before they pulled this bullshit.
I think Patreon will keep the pomf clones alive. Mixtape is at 216% funding right now from donations alone.
That's great to hear, since as a few months ago, they were getting so undercut from what they needed, that they had to start shutting down servers. I recommended everyone I knew to stop using mixtape, since I feared they were going to take the path of all those other pomf clones and bite the bullet. Though I've heard that mixtape is still having issues of files disappearing and never being recovered, despite mixtape saying they're "working on it" for several months now.
no one will top niggaupload
Anyone else here use mixtape.moe?
For sharing webms yes.
So thats why my title got fucked up
So thats why my title got fucked up
Dude, leave it as-is. The way it broke is Fucking Incredible.
I've honestly never seen imgur reduce an image's quality at all, can anyone post a comparison to show what they're talking about? Like, does it only happen with super high resolution images or something?
Not only does imgur horribly compress your images but recently I've noticed a shit ton of images hosted there that have been deleted. If you want to store images as a personal backup use Flickr, they give you 1TB free and are unlikely to fuck you over. If you want to share images use cubeupload, just as easy as imgur but zero compression and no faux-reddit shite.
sad because imgurs big selling points when it came out were a: no compression and b: never deleting your shit lmao
I've honestly never seen imgur reduce an image's quality at all, can anyone post a comparison to show what they're talking about? Like, does it only happen with super high resolution images or something?
Feeling the same. I've used it since 2012 and I've never noticed any compression. Crystal clear every time and no file deletion.
But Photobucket sucks... Getting a link to a picture takes too many steps, viewing the library is slow as ass, the whole site is. Why when I can just upload and copy a link in like 3 total clicks on Imgur in a near instant. How can Photobucket possibly compete with that even if they remain free? Imgur does compress pretty bad, but only if you upload a 25MB PNG or BMP
fuck all these image hosts, i host my images on my vps that when linked to, people assume is a virus, so i've got that going for me.
Use a better domain then, and get an SSL cert.
I remember when everyone here used filesmelt
Remember how Filemelt had a limited set of url's so that eventually when you revisited old threads all of a sudden it'd be completely filled with porn?
Remember how Filemelt had a limited set of url's so that eventually when you revisited old threads all of a sudden it'd be completely filled with porn?
I don't know if this was filesmelt but there exists a thread here on facepunch talking about some crysis texture pack or something and the 404 got replaced with an anime girl touching her giant dick :v: So you have old posts quoting this fapping anime chick and going "oh my god this is beautiful". I wish I had the thread link.
If imgur has to be a shitty meme website to host fairly decent images I'm okay with that.
I loathe these fucking backwards image hosts for making really old tutorial or DIY fix threads become bloody fucking useless because their stupid 404/deletion/paywall policy. Imgur has an annoyance if you're trying to host an image and it gets downvoted to oblivion in nanoseconds because it's not some funny maymay.
Don't know much about deviant, but doesn't imgur have some nasty compression?
Any amount of compression is better than how legitimately cancerously bad PB is i don't think I've seen a site just function as little as that shithole does
And that just progressively became more and more forced, with the upload button being crammed into a single tiny spot (2015) [t]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-L2v6_nCvIsc/WVaHSsqzrwI/AAAAAAAAQmc/x_8-r_DpnOIS240NNIu8ejUwcYFaO9yEwCHMYCw/s0/2017-07-01_03-15-45.png[/t] Now they're starting to force out people who still want to use the site as a simple image sharer, the way it was originally designed
you do realize you can just drag and drop the image onto the page and it will upload? Also imgur did it because they needed some way to make money as their service is quite excellent and is totally free.
It kills image quality
Unless you're using 4k it really isn't that bad
If you upload a png to imgur when you're not logged in, it will convert to jpg. It plagued the collaborative MS Paint threads.
I've been using Imgur for a while now to upload images, and I haven't seen any noticeable decrease in quality on the images I upload there. Is there a comparison showing this or is there only quality reduction if you don't have an account?

You have to publish the image to usersub for it to get downvoted at all.
Unless you're using 4k it really isn't that bad
It's really bad for anything with text. Their api likes to log me out when it comes to ShareX and occasionally I accidentally hit the full desktop screenshot shortcut when trying to take a regional screenshot and the text comes out looking quite atrocious. It's usually barely readable at best.
If you don't have a copy of your PB images stored elsewhere, it's simple to download the entire library as a .zip file. Well, simple if you haven't yet been blackmailed and been locked out.
I just remembered that I tried over and over again to do this but it literally wouldn't work at all can anyone confirm the same experience? I want to download my files so I can tell them to just fuck off already Not only that but if you can't hotline on premium, there's a shitload of BETTER storage services that'll just let you save any file regardless of compression or resolution or quality [editline]1st July 2017[/editline]
It's really bad for anything with text. I have it selected to upload specifically in PNG and have that 'extra quality' setting on their site

Shameless plug but I'm one of the guys who runs cubeupload and we're still going.
Don't put much faith in that lasting. It's good for quick shares, but small hosts like that will usually hit a point where they can't really justify running it and eating the costs anymore and then it goes down.
We passed 10 years last year.
Shameless plug but I'm one of the guys who runs cubeupload and we're still going. We passed 10 years last year.
The site I used before going and making my own, how many files you guys hosting now? Remember it being like 6 digits a few years ago.
If you upload a png to imgur when you're not logged in, it will convert to jpg. It plagued the collaborative MS Paint threads.
Uhh I remember uploading a .png to imgur just yesterday and it came through unchanged. Maybe it depends on the filesize?
Uhh I remember uploading a .png to imgur just yesterday and it came through unchanged. Maybe it depends on the filesize?
Depends on filesize or resolution. A large enough image with a small filesize will actually get resized still. I don't know the exact limits but it's a lower limit while logged out. While logged in you're actually more likely to have an image resized due to its resolution than because it has too large a filesize. (End result is the same though because if they process an image rather than simply uploading it, it gets converted into a compressed jpeg.)
Did anyone use iownjoo back in the day.. like 2003ish? I still used photobucket.. how embarassing. I just never bothered to get a different service. First it was riddled with a thousand ads and now this. Good riddance.
Shameless plug but I'm one of the guys who runs cubeupload and we're still going. We passed 10 years last year.
I love cubeupload for uploading uncompressed stuff but I do wish you guys had an option for allowing compression when I care more about an image loading quickly than it being of flawless quality.
