Photobucket Snaps: No Hotlinking (img tags) and Subscriptions Are Now $400/year

I ran a test on imgur out of curiosity using an image in two forms, png (7.27mb) and jpg (1.61mb). The png was converted to jpg compressed to 0.38mb while the jpg was reduced to 1.19mb. I'm not sure why the png was hit harder while the larger jpg wasn't. The quality loss on the image was minimal for the png and next to inconclusive on the jpg (couldn't tell). I have a 10mb image also that was converted to jpeg and cut down to 0.76mb, with some noticeable compression.
I figured maybe the existing artifacts on the image I selected was compromising my assessment, so I found a cleaner png at 4.19mb and created a jpg version, then uploaded both and looked at the results. This time the png [I]increased[/I] to 4.29mb and the jpg stayed the same size, 1.29mb. It seems that png's somewhere over 4mb are converted to small jpg's even for member accounts.
I'm done testing for now because I've got other things to do, but so far it looks like there are limits. I had to go through several pages on their website to find the limits, but they are as follows:
[quote][B]Maximum File Size[/B]
The maximum file size for non-animated images (think JPG, PNG, etc) is 20MB.
The maximum file size for animated images (like GIFs) is 200MB. GIF files over 2MB will be converted to GIFVs. [U]PNG files over 5MB will be converted to JPEGs.[/U]
[U]Non-animated images over[/U] 1MB for anonymous uploads and [U]5MB for account holders will be lossily compressed.[/U] All non-animated images receive lossless compression that reduces filesize while maintaining quality. Large GIFs will be converted to GIFV, which shrinks file size while maintaining a high quality, perfect for our expert GIF makers.[/quote]
Best advise for a png image over 5mb would be to convert it yourself to something that reduces it below 5mb, or compress it yourself using an image editing program, then upload it.
[QUOTE=sourcegamer101;52417939]Photobucket is fucking dogshit, idk why people use it still[/QUOTE]
I used to use it back in like 2011-Early 2012 I think, then I ended up discovering Imgur and its basically what I've been using since.
[QUOTE=Reagy;52421123]The site I used before going and making my own, how many files you guys hosting now? Remember it being like 6 digits a few years ago.[/QUOTE]
We're almost at 6 million images reaching just under 3TB.
