Google Earth has been updated (now has 3D views, tours and more)

They've had 3d for YEARS, why are they advertising this just now? It doesn't look like anything is different at all.

Google are heavily invested into web technologies now, the big thing here is that people don't need to "download" Google Earth, they simply go to the website. This is more of a technological advancement than anything, utilising the great new technologies in HTML and JS, but essentially it's still the same Google Earth, the same 3D that was there before

but the google maps website had 3d support just like this for years. this google earth website is just maps.google.com with a different UI

I hope they add the Google Earth community feature back. It's really fun to see what other people have found. Shame they shut that feature down in previous editions of Earth.
