[UK] Explosion at Manchester Arena -- 22 dead + 50 Injured

The only thing I take heart in from horrors like this is that they're not an increasing trend, no matter how much mainstream media might want to make people believe, to make a shit load of money. Mass casualty attacks are a hallmark of a certain kind of unhinged people, either who just want to kill or are prepared to do anything for a cause. Before ISIS (note that nothing has been confirmed yet regarding identity...) it was Al-Qaeda, before Al-Qaeda, it was the IRA who used to blow up London and other big cities and bits of Ireland on a very regular basis. Remember the Omagh bombing was overshadowed in history by 9/11, but it was equally as horrific as last night. And on the subject of targeting kids, as cadets we were told that the suspicious packages briefings and such that NCOs used to get were because the IRA were dropping diguised pipe bombs outside squadron compounds in NI. So to be quite fair and as unhysterical as possible, this is the continuation of a terrible thing that's happened for years and years. There's no new crisis here, at least so long as the rate doesn't go up.

By no means am I saying we shouldn't be concerned or upset by it. Each individual threat still needs addressing, and the Islamist threat is odious because there will be no Good Friday Agreement style fix-all against an ideology which pops up all over the place for all sorts of different reasons. It is tough
Man arrested and suspicious package identified at Arndale foodcourt, finger's crossed it's nothing.
Probably, since it was a suicide bomber. I haven't read anything about a second explosion on the BBC or Reuters.
Was just wondering as when the story came out there were witness reports of two explosions but I guess that could of just been one witness statement that got passed down the line
Well Trump called the attackers "Evil Losers"
Such finesse

Actually not the worst choice of words. That's really what they are.

The horror of this attack and you choose to criticise Trump.
Unbelievable.

Why can't he criticise the use of words that a world leader has in response to this attack?

Let's not turn this into a discussion about Trump, please

There are enough threads criticising Trump already, I don't think we need to turn this one into another.

They're evacuating shopping centre as well, probably nothing.

I imagine it'll go well with May's speech calling them 'stupid poopieheads'.
Let's not turn this into a discussion about Trump, please
I wasn't trying to. I'll drop the topic despite my question being unanswered.

We can talk politics about this incident but not so soon. Give it a week at least when all the facts are out before we talk about it.
Prayers sent.
23 Year old man from Chorlton arrested according to BBC.

-snip-
EDIT: I stand corrected, arrest at the shopping center was noted as not related, the above is related.
Pretty much inevitable but ISIS have officially claimed this attack:

We don't know if they are actually responsible yet - they claim responsibility for everything - but the fact it was a bomb suggests some higher level of co-ordination and planning.
And here's a buzzfeed article on some of the fake stuff going around the web at the moment:

for anyone who might not know, primary school age = around five to twelve.
Isis has claimed responsibility for the Manchester Arena attack, hailing the bomber as a "soldier of the caliphate".
It suggested the atrocity was not a suicide attack, despite police statements saying the perpetrator died at the scene, and did not name him as a "martyr".
Perhaps his device detonated accidentally with him in the vicinity??
ISIS has claimed a lot of things tho that the perpetrator never was apart of like I think during the Sydney siege, Isis claimed that when really the dickhead who was holding everyone hostage was just some idiot who was Muslim but did it to get back at Abbott or something
Guess it's hardly surprising because people are idiots but already people I know are saying this is a false flag by the Tories to stay in power etc.
It's really depressing that people can't take horrible events like this and be respectful to victims rather than use them as opportunities to push agendas.
CBS News sources have confirmed that the attacker was identified as 23-year-old Salman Abedi, who was known to British authorities.
The concert drew a sell-out crowd to Manchester Arena -- about 20,000 people -- and it was just ending.
The last song was over and the young, happy crowd was beginning to file out of the arena. A dash-cam in one of the vehicles in the parking lot caught the massive blast.
There were seconds of silence, and then panic gripped the crowd. The bomber, a man who police say arrived alone, was not inside the arena when he detonated his explosives. He arrived on the local rail system and approached one of the main exits as the audience made their way out.
Annnnd here we go again, yet another one of those terrorists who was already known to the authorities. This shit just keeps happening and happening.
I'm not saying it's a false flag or anything, but I've seen a huge amount of conservatives attacking Corbyn over this, mostly just racist hateful people assuming all refugees & immigrants are terrorists. Just sad, some idiots in this country just jump straight in to justify their racism using events like this. :/
Oh yeah I'm sure it's happening on all sides of the political compass.
Sad that some people can't put their bullshit aside and show some empathy and respect.

Yeah, its not a false flag (Our government is stupid, selfish and arrogant, but not that callously, deliberately malevolent) but it did happen at the worst time, as it will inevitably bolster the xenophobia buoying the Tories current success.
I now understand how this happened.
Security never care about individuals going inside the venue while people are exiting. This occurred because they let a random individual into the building without being checked.
I was initially very confused because at high profile venues, they search all individuals, they search bags, they go through metal detectors everything.
But here, some random guy was able to get into the building after the show ended.
They should easily be able to identify who did this..
And going of what CBS News reports, that one picture of debris, blood particles and those victims might not have been fake at all. The bombing took place at one of the exits to the rail system, which is also shown in the picture, and there are some photos showing the crime scene from the other side of those set of doors. Not going to link them, obliviously.

Problem is tho, they may be known but the police can't do much about it. Until they commit the crime then they can
I might be wrong but the police can't arrest someone for believing, they gotta have hard evidence
Man goes to Syria, poses with Isis soldiers and comes back home? Arrested
Man posts that Isis did nothing wrong and police believe he chats with them on WhatsApp? Hard to prove because you don't know the messages and it isn't illegal to communicate with anyone (?)
Man does the above but police do a random search because someone says they smelled weed and they discover parts that can be used to construct a bomb? Guilty
one speculation I can make is in the last 8 years, the security has tightened at concert venues, but there is never a security presence at the end of concerts.
It only occurs before where they search you, but after... it is a free for all. I really hope they can enhance security because when you have crowds, it just makes it a higher risk.

Maybe another issue is that there are too many of those people in Western European countries for the police to decently handle. Just look at Belgium, they had weekly raids in Molenbeek for months after the Brussels attacks last year. Plus there is the issue that judges in some European countries are way too soft on cases like this until it is too late. I think that people who are planning to join ISIS should be locked away for far longer than just a year, they should be locked away until those fucking cunts are wiped off this planet.
And of course all the far-right idiots are all like "Europe is so cucked blah blah"
