PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds EXEC 'Contemplating Action' Over Similar Fortnite Battle Royale Mode
I was considering buying PUBG before this.
Good job losing potential customers, retards.
Same, and hell this looks even more interesting to me, I love the building aspect, reminds me of that old Sourceforts mod.
Yep. All Bluehole accomplished by doing this is essentially giving Fortnite some free advertising.
I have friends who had no idea what Fortnite even was until hearing about this, and now they're interested in it and want to try it out. This, and the whole "accidental crossplay" thing that happened with Fortnite recently is only starting to generate interest and positive buzz around the game.
If Bluehole didn't say anything about it, then people would continue to have no idea what Fortnite was, and would probably universally pan the Battle Royale mode as a "rip-off of PUBG", which is pretty much what they wanted. Now, people are thinking of it as a viable alternative to PUBG.

I personally did not know about this game until this article. I'm downloading Fortnite right now to see what it is like.
Edit : Just played a few rounds of Fortnite and honestly it is a lot of fun, found RPG's and some other cool weapons. Plus the game runs flawlessly and the game even has a little bit of charm to it, the battle bus is pretty funny.
The only part of Fortnite that is off-putting is the "F2P in 2018" and the apparent deadwall once you hit endgame.
A lot of players and friends I've talked with say there's a RNG wall you hit near endgame where you can't get the weapons you need consistently to carry on into later coop missions.
(Everything is card-based, your character, weapons and stats. You get these from missions or the pay-to-use piñatas which are just the game's version of a loot box).
Perhaps this battle-royal gamemode can reward players with loot depending on their finishing rank, could be an alternate way to get around this supposed dead wall.
But it's still a WIP till 2018, so who knows if they'll change the loot aspect a tad so endgame isn't just a slog if you don't want to shill some money out to make it quicker.
Why is the creator of PUBG such a dick? He has banned players from the game for team killing too. Does he have a stick up his ass?

Here we go, already getting too big for his britches.

The more the creator of PUBG continues being a manchild...
The Executive making the comment about potentially suing Fortnite was Bluehole's Vice President Chang Han Kim, not PlayerUnknown AKA Brendan Greene. While I will agree PlayerUnknown has done some questionable community decisions in regards to stream sniping and a myriad of other factors (glass door), he did not say he was going to sue Fortnite. Reading the article helps, especially since the distinction is made in the first 3 paragraphs.
PlayerUnknown himself says battle royale games to be expected and doesn't mind the competition as long as they aren't 'carbon copies'
The more the creator of PUBG continues being a manchild, the more wind the competitors keep getting onto their sails. All it takes is one competent battle royale game to come out and PUBG will come crumbling down because of the pressure and people jumping ship
PlayerUnknown himself has been fairly decent in terms of PR last I checked. The "rampant banning" people keep bitching about is massively overblown and the bans are rarely permanent (the devs do have access to almost every action performed by a user, it's the nature of the platform they're using, so the chances of false positives really isn't a big deal). PU has tried to stay in constant communication with the community and keep development somewhat transparent at the very least.
Bluehole are known to be a bit of a shit publisher when it comes to this kind of stuff though if I recall. Most developers probably don't consider taking legal action unless something is quite clearly infringing on their designs. Publishers however can't wait to get on that court case train.
Yeah PUBG is a bit of a mess in a number of places (I cannot think of a single UE4 game that has aiming mechanics that feel this bad, I don't know how they did it). But it's nowhere near as bad as the FUD being spread likes to paint it.
And then the stream sniping incidents and shitty bans happened.
And then they added lootcrates you could pay for. While the game is still in early access.
Here's some of that FUD I mentioned actually. Good examples too!
The "stream sniping incidents" really don't happen as much as people like to claim. It's quite easy for the devs to see if you were actually trying to stream snipe as they can correlate your client joining sessions with a given streamer who has reported you. Randomly killing a streamer is almost certainly not going to get you banned no matter how much they complain. I still question the "examples" of it happening myself, I don't recall any evidence being presented by the banned user in their favour.
The paid loot crates were fucking silly. But they are entirely gone. And were used to fund the competitive tournament run at Gamescom or whatever. I still think it was a silly idea to put them in. But they aren't a permanent fixture thus far, and only provide cosmetics anyway. It's really not been a problem since the tournament ended. (this game is no way near e-sports ready so what the fuck where they thinking)
Again, king of the kill is Brendans work. Almost every 'imitator' is buly the same guy and if Epic are branding themselves as pubg but for consoles no shit hes gonna go after that considering pubg on consoles will be launching sooner than later
PU has basically been iterating this idea his entire career. Starting with a mod, then a gamemode, then a full game to try and work out how to make it actually work well. For all intents and purposes PU laid the foundation for this gamemode type as the current imitators largely follow the exact same rules.
But even then I can't see PU himself going after others unless they directly rip him off. It's not a good mentality to have in any industry, let alone one as public as this one.

Is it still FUD if the man behind the name said it himself?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ As much as I dislike loot systems in general, it's still cosmetics only. So even if it does happen (I'm hoping a bit of the backlash from the Gamescom crates moves that "probably no free crates" to a "likely keeping some free crates") it's not the end of the world entirely.
Until some genuine camo is offered in the paid crates, then it becomes a game breaking problem.
[editline]28th September 2017[/editline]
And I mean, if it doesn't end up having any free crates, I can probably make some decent money of fucking idiots with no self restraint by selling crates after all. If steam trading cards can get me the money to buy expansions for games, anything can.

Oh great, the "It's only cosmetics" argument again.
People tend to forget that they created the bot problem (which they only recently fixed) that plagued the game for months by letting you buy and sell crates and items on the steam market, starting to get to the point of ridiculousness with the Gamescom crate. Nearly every match was filled with 20+ bots, sometimes being up to 50 bots, for generating BP to buy and sell crates for profit. Nothing will ever stop bots, they will find a way to beat the current system in place to keep farming BP for crates.
Sure, you can say they fixed the problem, but that never would've been a problem if they didn't allow you to buy and sell crates on the steam market. Their greed directly impacted gameplay for all of their players.
Also, in response to:

Gambling addiction is a real problem. Systems like these profit off of their addiction and cause real detriment to their mental and financial health. You call them "fucking idiots" because they have no restraint, when in reality they just lack the willpower to stop themselves from feeding their addiction. That may not describe every person who spends lots of money on crates but I would bet they make up the majority, with the others being people looking to make a profit off of selling them.
