It's the nature of deflatory currency such as Bitcoin. People are holding on to the coins more and more based entirely on speculation, causing the value of individual coins to rise as others can't trade with the coins being hoarded (and Bitcon isn't infinite). As long as people are trading the coin in a stocks and shares manner the price will only continue to go up as the pool of available currency in circulation shrinks.
It's not exactly sustainable. But I suppose one benefit of crypto-currencies is that you can break them down into arbitrary amounts rather than the fixed amounts most decimalised currencies use.

Been using Coinbase to buy and sell ETH without any problems. I just move them over to GDAX (owned by Coinbase) and trade freely with a tiny fee.
