Wtf where is my bad anime
C'mon guys sharing is caring
Can anyone tell me how this even works... I see stuff like Gintama for as much as 20 euro's a season. Some of these series have multiple seasons so you can easily go over 100 euro's. Also Bleach seems to be vendor locked (as it is on Cruncyroll as well). Hell even paying a couple of euro's for a small anime seems alot comparing it to just rolling with Crunchyroll.
As somebody who pays for Crunchyroll + unlocker. I pay around 12 euro a month for no vendor lock, is streamable to my tv / chromecast and I can watch all of the listed anime as much as I like.
To be honest, more ways for us baka gaijin to buy anime and support the talented artists making it can only be good.

The only thing I can really think of is how the money is split between everyone handling the service.
Buying your shit on steam, obviously valve will get a cut from it, as they provide the storefront, video player/drm..
Unsure how much Crunchyroll have played a part in this though(Perhaps monitoring the network will tell you where the content is being streamed from [steam/CR]), this would affect how much they earn, and depending on their agreements with the production teams, how money would be handled from there.
I am unsure how a generic subscription on crunchyroll works in terms of how money is used. On steam you buy a series explicitly, but a subscription gives you access to the whole shop. Maybe it's split based on what you watch during the month. Someone here has probably already done research
Are we getting high tier anime such as King of the Hill & Seinfeld?
Are we getting high tier anime such as King of the Hill & Seinfeld?
king of the hill on steam would actually be pretty damn cool
Just an FYI, since this is cruncyroll, it's the TV-air versions instead of DVD/Blu-ray. Some series see an increase in art quality, and nowadays there's an increase in native resolution, too.
It's also relevant because they may censor extreme gore and/or extreme boobage. This is relevant because one of the featured anime releases is one of the most extreme titty animes in recent history.
Gonna wait for them to add JoJo and Black Lagoon/Jormungand.

at this point they should just list where its only allowed

crunchyroll often eventually gets bd versions
it would be great if they would add neon genesis evangelion on steam because i can't find that shit anywhere. the only way to get all the dvds to see all the episodes is if you're willing to have no way to pay for college.
crunchyroll often eventually gets bd versions
From what I can see this is only the case for shows that they acquired after the show has long finished.
Almost all of their shows that they've simulcasted have the TV broadcast version.
jokes on u guys it's not available here at all
Anyone can watch anime for free on the Internet. Why would someone buy them on Steam?
Anyone can watch anime for free on the Internet. Why would someone buy them on Steam?
because buying it on steam is actually legal and also not bannable
because buying it on steam is actually legal and also not bannable
As long as you're not hosting pirated stuff or sharing illegal links. I highly doubt something would happen to you.

Is this still an issue? CrunchyRoll seems to be doing the opposite of NetFlix.
Anyone can watch anime for free on the Internet. Why would someone buy them on Steam?
Ideally it means you'll get more of the stuff you like in the future, since the act of making anime doesn't pay for itself.
I can't stand localization, just put a TL note if you have to and leave it be.
The only anime where localization is acceptable is Ghost Stories.
And Crayon Shin Chan. And Dragon Ball.

Anyone can pirate games for free, why would anyone buy them on Steam?
Thanks to idiots who just watch everything for free, the anime markets are crumbling and actual good studios like Mad House (One Punch Man, Hajime No Ippo) have heavy issues surviving.
Having opportunities to support companies ensures their future. You can't just expect everything to pay for itself. And some of the prices of the anime are pretty good and affordable.

Its much easier to support the creators this way
Anime sells like shit even in Japan. People seem to have this weird idea that anime is super popular in Japan.
Not excusing watching it for free but to insinuate that anime is failing because people outside of japan aren't buying it is just laughable.
Anime is failing because of their SHIT business practices in Japan too imo. "lets split up our 12 episode show into 5-7 volumes with only 2-3 episodes in a volume and charge $60 a volume for it!".

Other reason is that there is simply way too many shows coming out at once

Anime is not failing and the industry is actually growing:

While it isn't a movie-like sized industry, it's still a respectable number, I wouldn't say it sells like shit.
With that said, the price for its volumes are just absurd, most people who watch these shows never end up buying them, so I wouldn't be surprised to see some shift in the upcoming years when it comes to distribution methods and hopefully the industry will grow even more with that.

Well its damn near a 2 billion dollar industry but yeah it "sells like shit"

To be fair, a lot of the money comes from good ole' merchandising (Bodypillows, figures with barely-there outfits, the works). Partnerships with real franchises, like that Lawson/Kancolle collab, are also a good source of income
