I mean the iphone x is attractive to consumers, but not 1k+ attractive. How much is it gonna cost in AUD anyway?
I don't know, I was at the AT&T store today and they said they've had an insane amount of people calling and asking when the iPhone X pre-orders go on sale.
I don't want to believe that's going to be the case though.
It costs as much as a mid- to high-range computer. Fuck off.

As someone who works for one of the large Verizon retailers, this has been the case on our end at least.
Our store had about a third of the traffic we had last year for the 7/7+ Launch it was a complete flop and everyone from the regional level up was hyping it up like Steve Jobs himself was going to descend from the skies and hand deliver us these new phones.
Best part is, all of our accessories say "For the iPhone 7 and 7s" on them, which leads me to believe that it was a last second decision for apple to name it the 8 instead of the 7s.

Well I mean it basically is a pretty decent computer with a HD touch screen monitor and an SSD all built into one device and miniaturised.
To be honest, I am very disappointed with the new iPhones, especially X. I expected something really radical to mark the decade. Like at least infrared and superzoom capabilities for camera, active noise cancelling for audio, like a terabyte of storage, projector capability, send/receive short-wave radio, scanning and mapping... for that kind of money. Or am I too sci-fi ?
They also withhold the information, tooling, and software needed to do repairs. Apple replaces entire major components or even entire products instead of doing the needed repairs - and then passing on this additional cost to the customer whenever possible.
Wait a sec.
Which laptop/smartphone company give this to third party services? THe only one I know is Lenovo sells some parts for ThinkPad models, but that's all.

The camera has had improved zoom capability from the iPhone 7 Plus, no phones aside from ones that have a big lens (I can only thing of Nokia) has superzoom. Terabyte of storage, considering the iPhone doesn't have expandable storage, is a very small audience that actually needs that size. Projectors have already been done in phones, they were unpopular hence why it's not been done again. I'm not sure why you'd want to send/receive short-wave radio? What is scanning and mapping referring to?
I feel like a lot of these apply to a very small audience, and aren't even available in competitor phones (aside from 1TB storage through expandable storage, and possibly "superzoom")
idk why everyone bitches about iphones. I've had my iphone 4s for 8 years now and it works just fine. Lost it in the snow once while hooking up a truck. Came back in summer and found it on a dirt road with mold in the speakers. Plugged it in, charged up, worked fine.
My experience with iphones have passed the test of time, the quality has always been far superior to other phones I've experimented with as well.
I use the iPad I got 6 years ago daily. Good for Netflix/Youtube.
If I were to even consider shelling out 1,000 dollars for a phone, it better have a feature that is groundbreaking like self-repairing glass.
Not really true?? My mother has a Galaxy S2 and has been using it since 2011. It works just fine. Apple's products are not special.
And in terms of customer care and repair services I haven't seen better than Microsoft's phone division. Had a $280 Lumia 925 that I accidentally broke (really was my fault though) and sent in. Unfortunately they couldn't repair it and offered to sent me a free $600 Lumia 950 instead.
As someone who used to use WP, you're kind of an exceptions. I havent heard too many good stories about Microsofts customer service.
The iPhone 3gs was released in 2009 and stopped receiving updates in 2012.
I'd like to note that I switched off that exact phone and went over to Android because apps started getting locked behind an OS my phone didn't have access to, which killed any unofficial longevity it might've had. I know I'm not going to need to get a new phone any year soon with my Note 5. It's going to last as long as the 3GS did, and potentially even longer unless someone comes out with a new phone with features I absolutely need to have, which I seriously doubt will happen.

Probably the best thing you can do with an old iPhone is jailbreak (if available). I believe there are Cydia apps which let you download older versions of apps, plus you can get similar features available on newer versions of iOS
