If this is all just after he shit talked a video game then I'm not going to be taking it very seriously until some actual, legitimate evidence comes up, NOT people complaining on twitter.
Regardless he's already pretty much fucked, because shit like this leaves a permanent mark on you in the eyes of many no matter how truthful it is, so I guess at this point you might as well just hope that he ended up deserving it after all.
Is this a joke? Uh, yeah, the burden of proof kind of does fall on them.
This has nothing to do about the video game, that was just the spark the fire needed.
And what if they only present proof to the people that require it? Does that mean its some conspiracy to you? Will you be satisfied if every detail is given to you and the public? Please tell me where you're going with this.
There people going " Here comes the feminist Witchhunt, because no proof have emerged just anonymous sources" on twitter now.
Considering Polygon has been slandering the fuck out of people with this exact tactic for about five years now, can't say it's a sad state of affairs. You reap what you sow, glass houses, etc.

What if they kept it between them and law enforcement to begin with and didn't feel the need to go screaming to twitter which inevitably means he's ruined even if it does turn out to be false? Do you think its okay to appeal to the public to get people on your side and throw together a witch hunt just to slink off and hide again when you're asked to actually make some attempt to justify it? Are you advocating listen and believe? Please tell me where you're going with this.
I mean yeah im sure we'd all love to see evidence and no one should witchhunt a dude but i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say if his friends, coworkers and boss, all people who have known and worked with him for years feel like its right to suspend him and make some public statements talking about how upset and hurt they are then I feel like theres probably some truth to it.
The neogaf thread on it has some pretty good links and screenshots in the OP.
I kinda hate that thread. Just recently, NeoGAF had a thread about their mod arrested on CP charges and they closed the thread, saying witch hunts have no place on the forum.
This thread should be closed, because as of right now it's a witch hunt, or at least out of respect for the victims.

yeah dude im totally advocating for listen and believe, not saying that maybe the evidence of such a thing should stay private.
and yeah i totally said the publicizing of this was a valid thing to do. I was asking if this story broke, without the public shitstorm, would you still be asking where the proof is?
Anyone got a picture of the sexually harassing direct messages he has been claimed to have sent. I looked again but I can't seem to find any, people just say "don't ask for receipts" when asked for it. Why can't someone just print screen it and show it.

Only so much of what happened should be public. I'm sure proof will come out at some point, but not necessarily for everyone to see. If Polygon fires him, then they probably got receipts. If he's unsuspended, then the accusations were BS.

Proof is probably circulating through the parties that need to be aware of it. People are hesitant to post 'receipts' in public because the general public doesn't need every single detail before it's handled internally.

Not necessarily. I don't know what the contract or labor laws for the company looks like. If he becomes more expensive to keep on than to fire due to pure bad publicity, it's entirely possible that they can legally fire him without any evidence.
I'm not saying that that's what's gonna happen. I'm just saying that because I don't know enough about the contract or labor laws or anything, it may be that I wouldn't be able to draw any meaningful conclusions from his hypothetical termination.
If someone can clear that up, please do.
I hate that social media has turned this kind of issue into court of public opinion.

People have been banned for pointing this out apparently too. It is a shame what a mess NeoGAF has become.

Become? They've always been like this :v:
My thing about this is that some of the places leading the charge have sketchy records. Neogaf especially just recently defended a child molesting moderator, deleting all posts and banning all users that said maybe the moderator shouldn't be defended. Excuse me if I don't buy that preventing harassment is a priority of Neogaf's. The outlets that are doing this are the same ones that have been proclaiming for so long and so hard that even the mildest of criticisms are equivalent to death and rape threats. These are the people that have declared that women are in such danger, even online, especially online, infantilizing women in the same process that makes them valiant knights out to protect them (which just happens to give them a lot of money, power, and access to those same women).
However, as others have pointed out, the guys who shout they're feminists the loudest tend to want to use that status, that protection the word gives them, to their advantage. Devin Faraci did this, same with Anthony Burch. It's not a new thing. It's not even a surprising thing. When you give people a shield, expect them to use it.
Ultimately, we're not the police. The police are the ones who should be handling this. I'm not going to pretend that the police have a stellar record especially when it comes to harassment or the internet in general, but I do believe in innocent before being proven guilty. If it's really so obvious and really so evident then will the police have any problem bringing charges?

I guess this is sorta how I feel. The people involved are right to try to keep this under wraps, it's wise and mature to make sure that only the parties who need to know, know.
My issue is with the general atmosphere surrounding this mess. People trying to hype it up on both sides, people trying to convince strangers on the internet to believe them when the supposed proof is understandably not being handed out, belittling when that backfires. It's just a huge mess, and it's irresponsible.
is this a he sexually assaulted someone or a he sent lewd messages to someone on twitter thing.
is this a he sexually assaulted someone or a he sent lewd messages to someone on twitter thing.
Gotta keep it ~vague~ so no one can figure out they don't have shit for proof.
this twitter thread is the only place so far where i could find any shred of context to what the fuck is going on

I'm actually angry right now.
Actually, genuinely mad. Carboys was my favourite web series ever.

I was just tearing through carboys, coolgames, touch the skyrim, and podburglars. Now I'll probably never finish them

That doesn't necessarily mean they don't have proof, either. There's cogent reasons for not wanting it public. Of course, we don't need to automatically believe them when they try to convince us, but it also doesn't mean that the relevant parties aren't being informed. We can't draw any conclusions from this situation.

And yet not a single bit of proof.

At this point they're actively hurting his career by not confirming if they have actual hard proof or not.
I'm really hoping this is just some unsubstantiated rumour provoked by a few overly flirty DMs...
But at the same time, I kinda already know it's not going to be and he's going to have actually harassed these women.
Then that's a job for a defamation suit, after the dust is settled, assuming it's baseless. Yeah it's irresponsible, I think, to go public with serious allegations with the intent of convincing the general public without proof, but nothing can be done about that now.

His career was hurt the instant a story got published. The damage is done
One thing I'm confused about is the use of "assault" in the title here. That's not even in the article in the OP, or at least it's not in the link.
As far as I know, he's being accused of sexual harassment. Or alternatively, sexual misconduct. Not assault.

I hope he doesn't. We don't have enough women, and men for that matter, speaking out about the rampant sexual harassment that goes on in the entertainment industries.
I hope he sorta takes it in stride if it's false, because we need more people speaking out against this when it *does* happen.
We don't have anything even close to resembling proof.... but I feel the bad juju.
His career was hurt the instant a story got published. The damage is done
Indeed, but the faster it's unfucked the less people hear about it, the less it becomes like the Justine Sacco case.

It's a difficult problem. On one hand, going public with accusations can be very irresponsible and can destroy lives if they turn out to be false. On the other, we got weird societal problems making justice hard to achieve in cases like this. What's the answer? Fucked if I know.

I think the thing that DOUBLY sucks for me is that it'll give me a negative view of Porter as well even though he's entirely unrelated to the issue just by virtue of them being brothers

It's pretty much the definition of damned if you do, damned if you don't.
